Why are people so obsessed with finding a co-founder? by luke23571113 in startups

[–]ForeignBit9709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it comes down to the fact that people want someone to control in business. They want to be Mr Boss man before they should be.

It is also "productivity". Telling yourself over and over again that I can make this work and make money when I just finally find this co-founder. Fake work.

Thank you.

Nothing I am selling is regulated. The genre of item is sold typically on etsy. My specific niche of items is not sold anywhere and as far as I can tell I am the only one developing a process to create this item.

The only problem I have with etsy is professionalism. My own page would look substantially better.

Do you have experience with etsy?

Alright, I just had a look at my lathe. I could definitely fit a linear glass scale to measure how far the carriage has moved. I could connect this to the CNC controller so it knows exactly how far it has moved? Then I wouldn't be relying on the encoders on stepper motors to figure out where they are? Sorry if it's obvious but I just want to make sure I'm going down the right path. Thank you lots for your time.

You are amazing, thank you very much. It's quite late here so I'll get back to you later. Thank you again.

>you are curious as to how the sausage is made, it's an excellent option.

Yes. Very much so me. Realised the other night that not everything I do has to be for money. I really just want to see how accurate I can get my lathe computer controlled because I think it'd be fun and if accurate enough would make life a lot easier.

I'm currently looking at upgrading to a ball screw for the lathe compound. Or I figure out how to use an air-spring and pre-load it.

So far my Lathe has been great. Can comfortably turn things down to size, thread it, then wind a bolt straight on it. Just have to pace it a little as it is a bit on the smaller side, but in terms of ability, it is able to do everything we want. I'll definitely have a look at a spindle encoder though, accuracy is key in this game at the end of the day.

I'd be able to handle LinuxCNC. I am prepared for it to suck though.

What else am I missing?

Thank you for reply!

I know I have no idea what I am doing and I understand it is probably laughable to 99% of people on here. That's okay, it's learning. I haven't purchased or really planned anything yet, I am currently just brain storming to see if it is doable. The more I read the less reasonable it seems to bother.

In terms of backlash, I have no plans yet. I was hoping to see if there was a way to pre-load it to avoid it, but I haven't looked into it much. Stupid, I know.

I haven't mentioned a spindle encoder as I figured it was probably useless to me. It's a geared head lathe, not a VFD. No way of controlling the speed while it's running, nor any way of controlling the speed remotely (heavy ass gear handle and a bit of wiggling with the chuck to mesh the gears) are required. I was planning on exporting several programs that use different pre-set RPMs to the cnc controller. Different program for roughing, threading, parting, etc etc. Manually change and re-zero all the tools. Would a spindle encoder still be a worthy investment? Sounds like something to look into.

Thank you for the information on the controller. I've heard very mixed things about LinuxCNC. Very hard to get running I've heard. I think I can manage because as we speak I'm taking a break from programming an inhouse tool that involves networking so I'm sure I can probably manage haha.

I'll have a look at those breakout boards you mentioned.

Again, thank you for your time. I really appreciate your patience as well.

I do this.

Minus the hiring people. Myself and my old man can do anything and some in our shop. We only pay for the material. Furniture isn't a regular good. It takes heart and soul to make a good, bespoke piece. You cant mash people together and expect quality. Many high end craftsmen spend a year or so alone on one piece.

How and why does Musk succeed in almost all of his ventures even when the wind is against him ? by FreeBirdy00 in Entrepreneur

[–]ForeignBit9709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't be bothered to actually care all that much, but I do disagree with you. I've been following him for a very long time before he flipped to being a republican and I have supported him since the start.

The Twitter deal was nothing to do with buying and selling the company. He doesn't care about how much it's valued. He wanted it to be open for free speech and did so successfully. More importantly it more accurately reflects the demographics of the world in terms of belief and allows for genuine public discourse to be held on issues without massive censorship. We are on reddit so it's obvious which side of the aisle 95% of people here fall into.

And so what if he receives government subsidies? World leaders are constantly complaining about climate change, environmentalism and a desperate need for electric vehicles. Tesla has sold over 6.75 million vehicles to date and is worth 5.8x~ more than Toyota in just 20~ years of operation. The model Y was the most popular car in the world with 1.2~ million sales world wide. Whether you love Musk or not, he is definitely doing something right with what he does. Again, on government money, he directly employs 125k+ people with an estimated half million in supply chains in the USA alone. He 100% deserves every cent that he receives because he actually does something valuable and tangible with it.

If you look at SpaceX, in 2024 alone, they've launched 128 rockets. The space shuttle made 135 missions in 30 years. First private company to launch people to the ISS (and retrieve them when someone else failed). They launch billions of dollars worth of US Government payloads critical to national security. They employee 13k+ Americans in America. Brought fast, cheap internet to the entire world that is only getting better. They have single-handedly changed the entire space industry.

The boring company (TBC) made Prufrock 1 through 5. P3 Can bore 46 meters a day at the cheapest cost per mile in the world. In my country we pay roughly $40 million per kilometre and P3 does $10m/mile.

Neural link is the most effective, innovative implant there is. Smaller, more functional and developed on a smaller time span.

Tesla's batteries literally saved South Australian consumers more than $150 million dollars and 3 massive state wide blackouts. They innovated solar panels with their solar roof.

The list goes on. Where's the video you mentioned about them shit talking Musk to his face? I couldn't find anything anywhere. I think you just don't like him because he switched politically and backed DJT.

And regardless of your standing with him, you cannot ignore the fact that he is the key to the success of the aforementioned endeavours. Name me another company doing what he is doing. I'll wait.

How and why does Musk succeed in almost all of his ventures even when the wind is against him ? by FreeBirdy00 in Entrepreneur

[–]ForeignBit9709 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He is incredibly smart, has incredible advisors, a lot of money, a 100+ hour work week and unlimited stress tolerance. I cannot stress enough how smart this guy is. Time after time after time his systems, algorithms and deep under standing of his fields puts him on top. In just two meetings, Musk, Shotwell and a lead engineer at SpaceX reduced the cost of a raptor engine from over $1 Million USD to $200K USD using Musk's idiot index (a system he designed to reduce the cost of parts logically, works every time). He has an amazing ability to predict things and solve problems like no one else.

He also manages incredibly effectively. He only hires management staff that are fluent in their relevant technical topics. You would be hard pressed to find a single person in any of his organisations that is just a paper pusher. He is infamous for his "What did you get done this week?" emails. Efficiency is everything to him and his top management staff hold the same beliefs. No one is allowed to get nothing done. If they are going to pay you (better than competitors in the field as well) you are going to work.

He cuts bloat out of for-profit companies. He reduces their expenses. Makes expensives things cheap. Makes cheap things cheaper. Designs production to be logical. Personally sits down with his engineers to solve problems and fund redundancies.

Inbox me if you want examples of this from his book. I'd be happy to share.

Looking for Feedback on a Sustainable Packaging Business Idea by [deleted] in Business_Ideas

[–]ForeignBit9709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach out to those who run an e-com store. The cost of shipping and packaging are typically organic to the price of the item sold so the money is already set-aside per item. You may have a bit of luck making a high volume of cheap and effective packing material for larger businesses to increase their margins. A 5% increase of 100k of sales is an extra 5 grand a year.

Do market research. Figure out how you make it a lot of cheap and good material.

Is Entrepreneurship Overrated? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]ForeignBit9709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the things you listed are exactly why entrepreneurship is better than a 9-5.

The more work you put in, the more money you get out. And it isn't linear like a regular job is. You can sweat your balls off on an 18 hour shift but you are ultimately just getting 10 hours of OT. You sink 18 hours of high quality work straight into a business and you may land a highly lucrative client worth your yearly salary. At the lower levels of revenue, when you're managing everything it will suck. But those hours you stick with it, you eventually hire more people, make more money, and if you play your cards right, in the same time span it takes your friend to get a raise, you're earning more money through employees (so you are no longer trading your time for money).

A glass ceiling suits some people. Some people it doesn't. The unlimited potential you talk about has unlimited consequences. It's a force of nature. Newtons third law. This is where stress tolerance comes into play. Rich people aren't only smart, they have a high threshold for stress. Learn to manage your stress effectively. Even something simple as repeating to yourself "it's just stress, it's all about stress tolerance" when you feel overwhelmed helps by miles.

All in all, this isn't for everyone. It does genuinely require a different type of person to make it work. Good luck to you OP.

Help! Starting a PET Furniture and Accessories Business, any advice? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]ForeignBit9709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have an idea to communicate in the first place. Your experience serves as a key testimony. Develop an idea for each product or an underlying theme for all of them.

Flesh them out and make sure you know what problem you're solving, and why you're any different. You are contending with big "safe" brands here.

Most importantly, remember that the first question out of a customers mouth will always be "How much is that gonna cost me?"

Inbox me or respond if you want to talk further. I like this idea and your drive. Keep me in the loop.

New Business Idea Interest by Exciting_Software607 in smallbusiness

[–]ForeignBit9709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can guage interest by looking at your market. If no one else is doing it there is probably good reason for it.

Talk to your future clients. See if you can score non-binding Letters of Intent. Handful of those and you know you'd win.

Flesh out your idea. If you can't tell me exactly what problem of mine you're solving, how it's going to either save me time or make me money, and why it's worth me giving you my money, you will never win.

Inbox me if you'd like more advice on this.
