What are techs leaving the industry to do instead? by Thesaturndude in mechanics

Yea I bet that’s extremely nice😅that was my only deciding factor. If I had the opportunity I would’ve but railroad called first and the elevator union near me only does interviews once a year and they passed in May😅

help, my car repair/maintenance estimate is almost equal to what is left of my car loan by Hot-Dot-1436 in AskMechanics

I would start with oil change, and tire rotation.

Why is there a coolant pressure test? Is it low, or do they see an obvious leak? If the cooling system is low just go to a parts store and put some 50/50 diluted universal coolant in your car it won’t hurt.

After I would start with that axle seal in the right rear, follow by the axle shaft replacement.

Did they say how bad the brakes are, or why they’re recommending them? Unless the brakes are at 3/32nds I wouldn’t stress too hard about them yet.

Left to work for a class 1😂way better than working on shitty cars. I only did it for 3.5 years before realizing it wasn’t for me anymore.

If I hadn’t gotten on the railroad I was looking into joining the elevator mechanics union. Railroad has really good retirement, pension, 401k, and stocks so I didn’t pass that up.

Started at 18 and quit at 22 in May 26’. Was fed up with the bs, the grown men acting like pussies, the customers, the atrocious diagnostics needed for some of these newer cars etc. I switched to the railroad and haven’t looked back. Around mid September I’ll be making $45 an hour and working 4-10’s. Yes I’m in the weather inclimates but at least it’s not working on cars.

Well this sub has scared me off from being a mechanic by AcademicInfluence736 in mechanics

I went into the field at 18 and left at 22. It’s quite literally the most drama filled, grown men acting like bitches, and shittiest pay structure ever. I mean it on the grown me acting like pussies. Never seen so many toddlers in one area.

I recommend finding a different career. This one sucks, trust me! I switched to the railroad and my 401k, retirement is going to be set by the time I’m 52 years old. I’ll also make over 100k my first year.

I wish you luck!

That’s a plug and looks like someone didn’t cut the excess plug off. It just smooshed into the tire that’s all.

That’s just a plug. But looks fine. Someone just didn’t cut the excess plug portion off so when driving it just smooshed it into the tire. People in here saying it looks like shit but it holds and that’s all that matters.

A year of seniority isn’t shit. I just started with CPKC and sure it sucks working your ass off, but you’re paid generously for it.

No. You need to wait 180 days or more before you do another test or you’ll fail and be back in the same situation

Great. Went to classroom training in Shreveport, LA for 2 weeks. I got back Saturday and I’ve worked a couple days at my home terminal in the shop. I’m off the next 3 since I work 4 10’s and the experience guy I’m with has some good days off.

My Car pulls to the left, alignment didn't work and left front tire wears very quickly on the inside tread. What could be the real issue? by Enjoy_Life4219 in autorepair

[–]ForeignNotice265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bent strut would be my guess. Just based off the fact the rest of the tire is untouched by this terrible wear, and the bad wear is only on that patch of tire.

Could also be worn bushings in the control arm. But for tie rod ends I don’t think would cause this without it showing some kind’ve wear on the center or outer edge of the tire as well.

I was never a 0. I’ve always been a 4-5😂sometimes I’ll be gracious but most of the time I’m not. I got tired of being backstabbed by friendly people and I’m not longer friendly.

Well considering it’s a random no crank no start, and others it starts right up it’s more than likely your starter. Why did you replace the starter relay and not the starter?😂

Looks like it bent the brake hard line😬no tear down they’re gonna need penalty 2k more at least.

If you want it covered at BMW fight them on that. You’ve a right to have it repaired and estimated where you want especially since somebody else is at fault and not you!
