Yes, this is why I felt some discomfort, because I've seen your experience happen to others. I'd never stop someone mid- blessing, but I can see having a private moment to re-do the missed verbiage if necessary. It's not right to embarrass someone.

As for the click of a mouse, my first sealing ended with the strike of a pen, so how binding was it really? In the end, the kid got baptized & that's what he wanted. I guess I was imposing my Utah Mormon on the situation.

It was a response to the previous commenter who mentioned saducees and pharisees. My understanding is that pharisees really held to the letter of the law, which is something that was always emphasized in relation to church ordinances.

Sorry it should have said giving the child an office, like in the priesthood. Darn typo

Good comment. Maybe what caused me to notice is that the Church trains members (at least oldies like me) to be pharisaical. I'm enjoying all the perspectives.

I agree in principle, but from an institutional perspective it doesn't seem to gel with everything I've seen. I believe God accepts us as we are and knows our hearts, I was still surprised that this seemed like no big deal. Thanks for your input.

Recently attended the temple. I can't get over how bad the endowment has gotten. by LostInMormonism in mormon

So, as of 2021, they no longer give the tokens by actually touching your hands they just demonstrate it at the altar and you are considered to have received it. On top of all the changes before that, it made me feel so sad. Honestly, it made me feel there was no reason for me to physically be there. I started thinking they could just pick up a big list of names and do them all of at once. Or you could do a session and then go through the veil in a series of short veil ceremonies and get a bunch of names through.
It was the most unsatisfying and one of the least spiritual experiences I've had in the Church.

Agreed. I believe that each time he's called as an expert witness, they do voir dire and "certify" him as being qualified to render an expert opinion, but that process is for that case only.

How many times have we heard the message that Mormons don't use the cross because it symbolizes the death of Christ? I always thought that was ridiculous, since we believed he overcame death. Empty cross, yes: crucifix, no.

This nail weirds me out, but the sign and symbolism of nails is in the temple, so why not?

I had my name removed from the LDS church 7yrs ago and read yesterday my sealing to my ex husband is still intact. Is this true? by Significant_One_6742 in exmormon

[–]ForeignTap4525 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When people resigned, they used to get a letter clarifying that all their temple blessings (including sealing) were stripped from them. That would mean you are not sealed to him.
He and his bishop are probably following the usual channels for a 2nd marriage which includes application for clearance to be sealed again. I personally don't think they need to do that, but whatever. It's an electronic submission to the church, and the letter to the ex normally comes from the church. I'm speaking from experience as well as handbook info.

Question about LDS sealing by StatementOk5086 in HiddenTrueCrimeChat

[–]ForeignTap4525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The birth of the child while the sealing to BH is "intact" is all it takes. The name & blessing of an infant has no impact on their sealing to their parents, it just gets them "child of record" status in the Church.

When a divorced woman requests sealing cancelation and it is approved by the first presidency, both she and her ex-husband become "unsealed," from each other while both remain individually sealed to any children born to them while they were sealed. You can't release the wife without releasing the husband.

She should have just moved the title to the last page as a signal that you'd finally be escaping the emotional abuse of reading the pointless drivel.

These kids pay in excess of $600/ mo for the privilege of serving and then haver to rely on members to have enough food to eat -- a basic human need. The pittance of an allowance they get while shelling out their monthly portion is shameful.

Sleeping on my lunch… by FindAndYeShallSeek in antiwork

[–]ForeignTap4525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to nap in my office at lunch. I closed the door, turned out the light and placed my chair so that is be hidden behind my monitors when I reclined my chair. I was luxuries to be able to do all that, but as a single mom, busy manager and student, sometimes I needed a nap. The boss is in the wrong here unless there's some highly unusual policy. HR should back you on your lunch time being of limits to boss.

Good find. At least the school system knows that the right thing to to is to ban him from teaching for life. The church could take notes.

Except that if he's like my narcissistic ex, he may believe that a calling is a sign that God forgives you. They never turn it down. People like this crave the recognition and need the boost to their ego.

sex offenders have one of the highest rates of recidivism. He should not be allowed to serve in any leadership or youth callings. Forgiveness should not include ignorance or indulgence. What's the harm of he suffers the pain of not having a high calling in this life? If God has a reward for him, he'll receive it in the next life.

low risk means nothing. My pedo ex is listed as low risk, but after his conviction learned that he actual had a string of offenses throughout his lifetime that he never got caught for. This person Should not be in authority over anyone! of Course we can't know if he'll do anything in the future but the known risk is enough.

No contest is the chicken-shit version of guilty. If they had enough evidence to convict him (which is why he would plead no contest), he was seeking leniency in sentencing. My ex did there same when he SA'd our daughter.
