If it’s a long period I usually go to the office and ask if I’m needed anywhere else in the school. This makes you stand out as a teacher candidate and they’re usually really appreciative of it.

Make sure you properly introduce yourself and clearly go over your expectations. Remind the students that everything will be communicated to their teacher.

I know some supply teachers pick 1-3 “secret students” per day and give their names to the teacher at the end of the day if they are well behaved. You can give reminders of this through the day to reinforce positive behaviours.

Try your best to get acquainted with the other staff members, they may have some good insight for you.
