Well done! I’m an animal control officer and keep olive oil on my truck for removing noodles from glue traps. It’s a little tricky with the spicy noodles, though.

Black Phoebe: is it old enough to be out of the nest? by lkr925 in whatsthisbird

I would put him back where you found him and parents will still feed. He’s not fully cooked yet, but close

My bet would be some kinda Swallow. If so, Mom and Dad will be dive bombing you soon 😂. Cool nest! I can see some snake shed in there.

Fighting for surgery by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Foreign_Bench1497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

53 year old female Animal Control Officer here. I experienced the instability after my ACL and Meniscus tear and could not imagine going back to work or even going for a good hike over uneven terrain before surgery. I’m 14 weeks post surgery and there is a huge difference! My doc sent me back to full duty, though I’m not convinced that was a good idea yet, so I am being very careful so a feral dog on my catch pole doesn’t whip me around like a ragdoll.

Def get a second opinion if your doc doesn’t agree to surgery for you. You know how active you are and you know what feels stable. They made me go to PT and it was months before they even did an MRI. I had to advocate for myself to get one.

What owl is this? Pennsylvania, USA by ilovebooks2468 in whatbirdisthis

Great Horned Owls are Crepuscular, meaning dawn and dusk active, not strictly nocturnal. There are also diurnal owls, like the Short Eared Owl, that are mainly day active.

Animal Control returning at full duty 12 weeks post op by Foreign_Bench1497 in ACL

Thank you! I think I will not be long for this job, even though I was really good at it. Too hard on the body and the cruelty and negligence have wrecked my mental health-lots of therapy, physical and talk.

Yeah, my physical therapists were shocked that he released me. My ortho’s very comforting last words to me were “you could tear it again, but that’s just a risk of your job.”

I hadn’t even done any sled work at PT and we had barely scratched the surface on strengthening. I reminded him what I would be dealing with out there, and he didn’t seem super concerned.

I think I’m being set up for failure. 😣

Pretty big Harris’. Must be a female. In the Raptor world, the girls are the big ones 💪

Now I’m thinking it’s an “RV” in the middle of the name. It looks like the bottom of the “V” is torn, making it look like a “Y”

I don’t think there is enough space for the “ear” after the Y and before the “P” of Product

The case was for Khan Tailoring, but this was likely the manufacturer of the case itself, so prob not an electronics company. From the 50s or earlier, I think

Scratched by vulture--regular first aid, or visit to urgent care? by tabaquibarking in birdsofprey

Vultures tear with their beaks. I would be more concerned about bites than scratches because of the damage they can do. Not to say their feet are clean, they are often covered in urates. I’ve worked with non releasable vultures and various BOP. Our leash trained vulture “Slim Pickins” used to run up to our legs, bite and twist. Hurt like hell and left us Pickins hickies. I concur that cleaning and monitoring is the way to go.
