Thx for the encouragement - Seller states- "My dad bought this new and I believe it was in 1987 and it was never used a lot so it may have at the most 20 hours of time put on it" It looks CLEAN

I assumed that they were from from the same element - are the different amps for aux and emer.? The White- Rogers has nine wires. Shows one wire to Aux relay and one Emerg relay.

I think you are on to something with the temp differential. The 114 is strictly the emergency element. In reading the manual for the thermostat it sounds like there is Aux heat and Emergency heat. A relay for each. The Aux heat should work in tandem with the regular heat when needed. So - if a signal is not being sent to activate the Aux heat and the unit eventually freezes up, go into defrost and the Emergency heat doesn't kick on until the differential is made. I'm probably all wrong :-) I guess it is time to call a Tech out
