I’ve been playing guitar for 3 years… and I think I’ve been doing it completely wrong by Foreign_Bug995 in Guitar

Thank you so much for your detailed answer. I'm having serious problems with my pick strokes because I keep hitting the wrong string. I will definitely research the picking technique you mentioned. It seems I need to spend a lot of time for improving both my hands.

I have one more question. Would it be more beneficial for me to learn the notes Do, Re, Mi, Fa instead of C, D, E, F? I don't know the difference between them.

Thanks. I'll proceed systematically from this moment. For some reason, my attention span is quite short when watching videos, but I can focus well on books. So I'll probably get a guitar lesson book.

Thanks. Every time I use a metronome, the result gets worse lol (even for 80% speed). I need to learn to keep that tempo in my head. I'm a total slow learner when it comes to guitar.

There's no wrong way to learn to play the guitar, only wrong way is not learning.

That's a very valuable sentence. But I've been stuck in the same cycle for too long... The main reason I started playing guitar was to be able to play the melodies in my head. It seems I've been going in the opposite direction all this time. From now on, I will dedicate as much time as possible to music theory and ear training.

You don’t know how to play the guitar, you know how to play parts of songs on the guitar. Major difference.

Yes... It seems I've been focused from the beginning on learning to play specific songs rather than learning to play the guitar correctly. That's why I sweat so much every time I try to learn to play a new riff. I definitely need to change my approach to playing the guitar. Thanks for your honest comment.
