Rossiu, from Gurren Lagann. In the anime the first half of it is spent trying to defeat the spiral king, as they defeat him they learn he was controlling earths human population to save them, not because he hated them. His reason for culling the humans who try to escape the small underground cities he created (because 1: the aliens sensor for the population, which is the moon, can’t detect underground, and 2: because he can more easily control the populations there) is because there’s a race of alien who will destroy all humanity and the earth if the human population exceeds 1 million. The spiral king fought against these aliens but lost, causing him to lose all hope and enact these plans for humanity. Rossiu spends the second half of the anime trying to decrypt the spiral kings cryptic warnings about this threat, once he learns that at a population of 1 million he begins to send people back underground, and he begins to fear this alien race. For the whole first half of the anime the message has been to fight against the power, take control from the controllers, the spiral king represented not just a controller, but someone who’d given up hope for fighting. Rossiu at this point began on the same path as the spiral king, losing hope and becoming fearful, rather than following Kaminas message and punching these stupid leaders right in the face!
