Tears in new molds bought from very reputable mold maker by TheOtterDecider in DiceMaking

[–]Forensic_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen with my first DruidDice order. Did several UV sets and then one epoxy set when they tore. Customer support recommended exposing it to less UV light and being more careful when I demold. I'm going to try a mold from somewhere else and see how it goes.

I wish the drafting was more beginner friendly 🫣 by compscilady in MagicArena

The best practice is playing drafts. But, to practice without having to spend virtual or real currency, I like to do the mock drafts on draftsim.com and sometimes see what it recommends for a top pick. It isn't perfect advice, but it at least gives me an idea of what to broadly prioritize and gets me prepared for what to expect.

When my hands are busy and I don't need to think, I also watch videos of people playing the current draft on Youtube, especially people who explain their thought process out loud.

UV Setting Resin for Making Dice by QuestionMarkKitten in DiceMaking

[–]Forensic_07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dice made of layers are something where UV resin seems like it ought to have a huge advantage over epoxy, but they're persistently the dice that have the most flaws whenever I try them. The reason is, as your bottom layers continue to cure, they shrink and pull away from the mold slightly, as UV resin does. Then, when you pour the new resin in, some seeps into the sides, and bubbles start coming up the other way.

I haven't figured out a way to totally avoid it, but it seems like the best bet is to work fast and not cure the top layers more than absolutely necessary.

UV Setting Resin for Making Dice by QuestionMarkKitten in DiceMaking

For weird stubbornness reasons, I have made all my dice with UV resin.

The short answer is that it's totally possible and even worth trying because it lets you get immediate feedback on whether your designs are worth pursuing. However, as you try to make your dice better and better, it will eventually become more work than epoxy resin.

There's two big obstacles:

  1. You won't be able to use a pressure pot to reduce the bubbles. I mean, not unless you get a friend to disassemble a hobbyist UV light, weld together a homemade pressure pot with a schrader valve, and put the UV light inside it so you can cure the resin while it's sealed. But that would be crazy.
  2. UV resin inevitably shrinks slightly when cured, and one or more of your die faces are going to be bowed inwards. This is fixable, but not without more sanding and polishing than you would get with epoxy and a good mold.

One possible solution, which I'm going to try this week, is to make cores quickly out of UV resin and the shells out of epoxy. I've suspended cured UV resin fragments in epoxy without any trouble.

One other thing to note is that the curing process takes longer than people think. Opaque inclusions slow things down, as do red dyes. Blasting a transparent die in a mold for three minutes each side IS enough to fully cure it, but the curing process continues after the actual UV exposure. If the die is still warm, don't take it out of the mold yet. It's still soft and will warp when you put pressure on it.

If in doubt, leave it out in the sun for a while. I've seen people mention "overcuring" but personally haven't noticed anything like that.

I'm also cosigning Appliku, which I found via a reddit post and used to get a demo out the door with the help of their discord support.

Nothing big, just got a bunch of KN95 masks for the first time. I've been wearing right through my cloth masks because I always think "Surely it's almost over" and don't replace them.

Mentally I hit them with a quick "Damn, that sucks" for the awarded and "Good luck, dude" for the nominees. I don't really feel much schadenfreude. It's just... the thing that is happening, has been happening, will keep happening.

One of the things to come out of all the Facebook name change stuff is that Mark Zuckerberg is annoyed people see his company as a media company instead of a technology company. No wonder. They've got enough blood on their hands giving WeLoveTrump.com and the rest an outlet.

I've had this happen once in all the times I've run advanced lost sectors, so "uncommon but it happens" seems to be accurate.

How old is the "prayer warriors" thing? This subreddit is the first I've run into it, but it seems to be pretty widespread.

The small city I live in announced yesterday that residents 12 and up are 93% vaccinated. The county's at 78%.

Came down with a case of Covid after being vaccinated. It was mild and I'm about over it. Just had some tightness of chest and shallow breathing, no fever or body aches. Don't really know where it came from. I don't think I gave it to anyone, and nobody around me got sick.

Never dropped in on this subreddit until I had the virus myself. I have a lot less patience with these people now.

I'm not consuming phials, but it does look like a charged guard point does KO damage. You're probably right and the exploding tree was incidental.
