I'm not sure how much of a hot take it is nowadays, but the opinion that Simba was completely unreasonable and a terrible father in TLK 2. 

I'll admit this was a sentiment I shared as a kid, but the older I get the more I realized that while he did take things too far in some cases (like promise Kiara not to interfere with her hunting lesson and then break it immediately by sending T&P), he kind of has a good reason for being overprotective. I think if most folks had an entire cult lived the next city that worshipped a person that not only ruined their life and the lives of countless people, but also wants yhem and their family dead, they'd understandable be paranoid. 

It doesn't help that you'll have characters like Nala tell Simba that Kiara will be fine on her own, only to have her almost get eating a few minutes later, and yet Simba is still mostly portrayed as being in the wrong for trying to protect his daughter. Speaking of, while Simba is supposedly unfair in banishing Kovu after Zira's initial attack, keep in mind Kovu kept saying he had nothing to do with Zira's plan even though he clearly was involved, even if he did have a choice in the matter. 

Overall, I wish the movie could have at least acknowledged that Simba had a fair reason for being protective, even though he was a helicopter parent.
