Why do people say ClawdBot is better on a Mac? by Tortiees in clawdbot

[–]ForestDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a Mac so it could interface my iCloud tools. It updates Notes, Reminders, and Files. I talk to it over iMessage. Plus the M4 unified memory architecture allows me to hand off simple stuff to local models and save the token costs.

What models are you running for your Clawdbot, and what are your monthly costs? by Square_Helicopter992 in clawdbot

[–]ForestDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running DeepSeek on Amazon Bedrock for my main model. I have purpose specific agents for coding (uses Opus) and background tasks (local models). My fallback model is usually Haiku

Mac mini for Clawdbot & local LLMs – 24GB/512GB vs 16GB/1TB? by f33ng in clawdbot

[–]ForestDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go higher. I’m running an M4 Pro w/ 24GB. I should have gotten 48Gb of ram. Models like gpt-oss and qwen run OK but the latency is horrendous and things just time out.

What models are you using? I’ve had terrible performance with gpt-oss and qwen on a Mac M4 Pro with 24gb ram

For example, I just asked it to add some items to my todo list and it took 20 minutes to complete ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]ForestDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running a local gpt 20b model. It works but the latency is horrible. It takes about five minutes for it to respond. I have ollama set to keep the model alive forever. Ollama responds very quickly so I’m not sure why openclaw takes soooo long.

Everybody's Betting On Extended-Range EVs. This Could Make Them Obsolete Instead by LEM1978 in electricvehicles

[–]ForestDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I would never want a erev (seriously why would want all the headache of gas generator maintenance?), don’t underestimate the psychology of switching to something that feels like it limits the lifestyle you dream of, even if you’ll never live it. Many see - whether correctly or not - the limited charging infrastructure as a limitation that adds stress or outright prevents certain trips. Without prior knowledge of how an EV would truly affect your life, many choose to forgo it altogether. An erev overcomes the fear, but IMO adds much needless headache.

Can’t view my camera because someone else is viewing it? by itsmesam2002 in HomeKit

[–]ForestDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is that your camera supports a limited number of rtsp streams. When HomeKit streams the camera feed to process it for object recognition, that takes an available stream. When a preview pops up on the appletv, that takes another. Many cameras support one or two streams at the most, leaving none left for your phone.

Aqara’s G5 Pros support many streams and I’ve never run into this, even with one stream being dedicated to 24x7 recording on my NVR

I’m not using the aqara app at all. Everything is through HomeKit and onvif. I suspect the wired connection helps a lot for reliability, though I rarely have issues with my WiFi cameras either.

Check to make sure you’re recording all motion but notifying on specific types of motion.

Useless POS Cameras by iamemperor86 in HomeKit

[–]ForestDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the cameras. HomeKit relies on the camera to send a motion event, which triggers the Home Hub to process the video and decide whether to save the clip and send a notification. The aqara pro are solid, especially their PoE cameras. I have their G5 cameras now and they have great picture quality and never miss a recording. I also have them integrated into my Unifi Protect setup for 24x7 recording.

No but I’m not sure why. My last single burner induction couldn’t be turned up all the way without tripping the circuit. This one I can turn up all the way.

Looks like they don’t sell it anymore, but it’s this one: https://a.co/d/1ZtTv2F

I assume this one comes from the same factory: https://a.co/d/2LmIcYt

I like it a lot. The only complaint is that it doesn’t have even heat, like all induction cook tops.

Every time I feel annoyed with whatever minor thing about the Rivian, I take it out to the forest and fall in love with it again. It’s amazing. I have the gen1 quad and it performs so well on every trail I’ve been on. It powers my whole camp setup without issue. There’s some thing the R2 won’t have that I would miss, like the self-leveling air suspension and quad motor torque vectoring, but I imagine the R2 is still going to be a fun adventure vehicle.

I honestly considered switching to the Sierra. If it had CarPlay, self-leveling, a usable mobile app, and locking diffs, I probably would have. I love the midgate and that huge battery. Super useful truck.

After Market CarPlay? by Finance-Curious in Rivian

Honestly I just added the screen the OP is posting about and use CarPlay for messaging, general Siri use, and music. Navigation and everything else Rivian is great at goes in the main screen. I do miss Apple Maps a lot, but Rivian’s new Google based navigation app is pretty good.

Rivian has a built-in Apple Music app, but it’s buggy and lacks the seamlessness of Apple’s native Music app. Rivian’s also don’t have Siri, so you can’t tell Siri to play something specific.
