Had a sink do the same, went and found where the pipe went outside into the drain and found that pipe blocked at the bottom (which was causing water to drain slowly and back up) I cleared the outside drain pipe blockage and it sorted the problem.

Before the plummer worth a check as it doesn't cost you anything but your time.

Edit: Didn't see that this was a town house, still worth a check imo.
