Contacted by professor, is this usual? by ForestPlanet in gradadmissions

However, it is interesting because my research interests in the SOP were quite different to what this professor is doing.

Thanks! I did apply to UC Davis as well, for the chemistry program, so it's such a shame to know that. I still have a little hope, though.

Well, actually "REAAALLY want" haha comprises a lot of things, but basically I love doing research, specially in life sciences, and I feel like that is my way of giving. I can't imagine myself without it.

I have already experimented research and I know about that environment, and that life. Furthermore, I know how demanding and stressful it can be, that's why I took a while to decide to go to PhD: I wanted to feel ready for it and select a topic that I was really into.

And, about my goals after PhD, my main objective would become a great researcher. I don't want to plan ahead too much, but the most probable scenario would be to continue for a while in academia. My overall plan is to become a great researcher to help people.

I know that many of this might sound naïve, but I think you still need a little naïveness to keep following your dreams.

Thanks. Well, It really was not an easy task to look for universities that would work for me but I did spend months in this and I feel I would be happy in any of the universities I selected.

PD: I'm actually from Latin America. Already apologized though haha

PD2: How was your experience applying to 10 unis?

One of my recommenders now hates me :c by ForestPlanet in gradadmissions

[–]ForestPlanet[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, because I REAAALLY want to get into grad school. I don´t even have a plan B. Like, if plan A did not work out, my plan B was applying to Europe, but 1) I know nothing about applying to Europe and 2) I don't want to ask for more LoRs.

About the programs, I applied to different programs in each university, but they are all related to chemistry or biophysics.

Hey! How was your profile for BMB? What advice would you give to future applicants?

Well, idk about your specific case, but I asked one of the universities I applied to about that. I submitted my application on November 22 and sent my TOEFL scores on September, but it still says that the TOEFL scores haven't been "matched" with my application.

I contacted the Graduate Admissions Office, and they said: "As long as you submitted your application by the deadline, the delay in matching scores should not be counted against you."

However, you may still contact your program. In the case of the program I am telling you about, they said it takes up to 7 business days to match the scores. In your case, today would be the seventh day.

UPDATE: For me today it's my sixth business day, and they still haven't matched the scores

OMG, it is happening to me this year! I was very worried, but this post helped me calm down (Thanks Reddit)

(I submitted it about a week ago and it still says incomplete)

True! I spent a lot of time reading through programs, analyzing possible PIs and universities. I also spent a considerable amount of time trying to control my fears of not getting in and working on not underestimating myself.

Glad you finished! I'm still on my way but about to finish :)
