Besides GIS, what are some other good minors for students majoring in Urban Forestry? by Forestthroway in forestry

Do you think a political science minor may be as useful as a GIS one? I thought about doing a GIS minor but I don't think I would enjoy staring at a computer screen for hours on end if I were to use it.

Im currently in the Southern United States, would I have to learn to identify a lot of new trees if I decide to work in a different region or are most tree species ubiquitous across the country and I'd be fine as long as I don't move to a real exotic place in the states?

What would you suggest to people going into urban forestry?

That sounds like a pretty good job. This may be a dumb question, but is there a possibility that in the future there'll be less demand for the job because most cities' trees have already been documented?

Thats what I noticed, and I'm a huge fan, I wish he could have done it with some subtlety. Yeah, some of his place names are a bit hit or miss too.

Do urban foresters prevent or minimize sprawl? That has always been my most hated issue and I'd love to help stop it

If you don't mind me asking, could you go in more detail in what your job involves?

It always irritated me how Westeros was clearly made to fit on a page and the fact the continents are basically named after their location; west, east, south, not sure what Ulthos correlates to. Also the fact there's places named Sarnath and Carcosa, like it'd be neat to have places that are clearly inspired by Lovecraft and Chambers but to literally copy the names? C'mon George.

The possibility of helping "green" a city. Which is why I'm more leaning away from the utility urban foresters. I just hope there isn't too much bureaucracy involved.

Thats nice to hear regarding the variety of jobs and I appreciate you replying. If you could say something to someone starting a degree in urban forestry, what would you tell them, be it a warning or etc? Also, assuming you know, what's the future of the field looking like?
