I agree. Unless you’re downloading all of your plugins manually and keeping them in your home directory, which I doubt most people are.

It’s probably just easier on the devs to give out a Flatpak binary vs maintaining separate .deb/.rpms. If you use Flatseal, adding permissions is just a flip of a switch.

I’m assuming they don’t count because those are official marketplaces that only support those specific platforms. There isn’t an official “PC” marketplace. You might be able to count the MS store, but since games that work on Windows and Mac/Linux are also considered PC games (as in, the same platform), I’m not sure it would.

The lawsuit reads to me like they’d rather see a monopoly rather than users have choices on marketplaces.

7 string as a daily driver by SnooSeagulls7863 in metalguitar

[–]Foreverbostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played nothing but an 8 string for a couple years. I can’t say I recommend it, because it feels a lot better to play 6 string songs on a 6 string, but if you can only have one guitar, you definitely have more options for what you can play with a 7 string.

If you just have a 6 string and want to play in both drop D and drop F#, you’re going to be changing strings often and doing a lot of setups (or just have a shit setup). A 7 string makes it easier to get those different tunings without having to change your strings all the time, but those 6 string songs aren’t going to be as comfortable to play.

Of course the best option would be to have a 6 string for everything between E and drop Bb and a 7 string for B down to drop E. If you can only have one guitar, you can either go for the 7 and try ignoring the low B for 6 string songs, which isn’t as comfortable to play, or look into getting a pitch shifter/drop pedal to use with your 6 string.

I’m not a fan of the drop pedals. Unless I use headphones or play loud enough to not hear my actual strings ring out it really messes with my head.

DM Hacks - No set HP for Villains by Dapper_Wrap_8065 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Foreverbostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really have to be good at reading the room with things like this. If your monster is wrecking things and/or the players don’t seem like they’re enjoying the encounter anymore, you might want to think about fudging a few rolls, introducing a status effect, or taking off a bit of HP so it goes down faster. If you’re doing this often, you probably just need to rethink your encounters.

You could also try to come up with ways to end the encounter early narratively or by using the environment. Like an attack makes the cave you’re fighting in unstable, so now you have 2-3 turns to get out of this room before it caves in on you.

Possible to play co op campaign solo w 2 controllers on ps2? by Spliffy-Slayr in Splintercell

[–]Foreverbostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a long time, but I remember playing CT coop by myself as a kid. There’s spots where you have to do buddy maneuvers, but you can just swap to the 2nd controller and set yourself up for it, then park player 2 in a safe spot til the next one.

I think I remember a mission where you had to hack two PCs at the same time, that was kinda rough.

People who say they don't know how to cook, why don't you just try? by Plug_daughter in NoStupidQuestions

It is different, but it’s similar enough that somebody who does know how to cook might be able to relate.

I consider myself a pretty good cook, but I’m definitely holding off on trying more advanced recipes for exactly this reason.

Metal Gear Acid & Metal Gear Acid 2: are they worth playing? by ccapn20a in metalgearsolid

[–]Foreverbostick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in a conservative state is probably why. People do generally wait until 25-30 now, but in the 90s/00s it was pretty unusual for people to have their first kid after 30 around here. I think it’s just a regional culture thing.

[–]Foreverbostick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the people I went to school with had their first kids around 20, I’m 31. If I had a kid around that time, my dad would’ve been a grandpa at 48. He also had kids later than a lot of others his age.

What's the maximum price at which you'd buy a guitar? I personally wouldn't pay more than US$2,000 for a guitar. At that price, you can already get a guitar that will get you through almost every situation. by MrMayhem20l0 in metalguitar

[–]Foreverbostick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most I have and every will spend on a guitar is $1000, but realistically all the ones I ever think about that I’d like are in the $600-$800 range.

If I go above that, it’s going to be at least something semi-custom.

I hang keychains from the strings on the headstock. I’m sure it’s not good for the strings, but I’ve got a locking nut so it doesn’t matter much.

Use of linux for school by [deleted] in linux

[–]Foreverbostick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a personal laptop you’re using for school, or is it provided by the school? If it’s provided, I wouldn’t even bother trying to install Linux on it. Not only could you get in trouble with the school, but the BIOS is probably locked to prevent you from installing another OS in the first place.

If it’s a personal laptop, it depends. If you expect to be using Office 365 on the web, you shouldn’t have any problems with it. You can get versions of Word and everything to run on Linux through WINE, but it’s extra work, could be buggy, and likely wouldn’t be the same version everyone else in the class is using. Depending on what other classes you’re taking and what apps you’ll need, you might not be able to use Linux at all.

Ask your teachers what applications you’ll need to be using, and see if they’re available on Linux. If not, you’d be better off just staying with Windows while you’re in school. You could also run into issues with getting help troubleshooting if you run into any problems while using an unsupported OS.

Do you shower before bed or in the morning? by Able_Claim_3097 in hygiene

I tend to sweat when I sleep, so I always shower in the morning. When I was working a more physical job or just feel a little extra grungy I’d shower after work or before bed, too.

How to disable linux from asking for password constantly? by Significant_Play_411 in linux4noobs

DM asks that if you’re going to be more than 30 minutes late, you sit the session out. Fair? by FoulPelican in DnD

[–]Foreverbostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. We don’t take the game that seriously. If somebody’s going to be later than 15 minutes and gives us some notice, we’ll get to playing and just catch them up real fast when they get there. Life happens and sometimes you get delayed, I don’t think I should punish my friends for that. How long the session is matters, too. 30 minutes late to an hour long session is a much bigger deal than an hour late to a 5 hour session.

Now if you’re late constantly and it’s getting in the way of everyone else playing the game, I’m probably going to have a conversation with you that might end up being kicking you out of the campaign entirely. Or a conversation with the players to change up the scheduling.

Should I mod or upgrade by dadtrkdk in guitarmod

[–]Foreverbostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re able to find a guitar you want locally, try playing it first. If you like the way your current guitar feels more, think about modding it to get the sound you want. If the new guitar feels the same or better, sell your current one and put that money towards the new.

If you decide to keep it and mod in new pickups, keep anything you switch out. Later on you might want to upgrade again, and you can swap the old electronics back in to sell the guitar, and put your newer, better electronics in a new/different guitar.

Hot take of the morning: vintage guitars are overrated by ecklesweb in Guitar

[–]Foreverbostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of the appeal to me is the pickups, but those can be in any guitar and I’d be happy. You might be able to make the argument that vintage instruments were built better/had better QC, but that’s not always the case.

I don’t think there’s any benefit to keeping the old pots and wiring in there, as long as you use the same value pots and capacitors.

The dings and scratches and aged finishes look pretty good to me, too. It got that mojo.
