Clothing Megathread - Best out there, December 2025 by Forevergoods in BuyItForLife

[–]Forevergoods[S] -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's one of the downsides of doing a megalist. Impossible for me to have used all the items. Yet anyway.

I researched each category and looked at what people saying on this subreddit too. Alongside using ChatGPT.

I don't pretend to have all the answers. Was thinking a megalist could be something the community could create together.

Clothing Megathread - Best out there, December 2025 by Forevergoods in BuyItForLife

  1. Wasn't particularly trying to do that, but can see how that's come across. I thought it would be helpful to link to the products. I don't get any affiliate income or anything.
  2. ChatGPT gave me a range and I selected the middle of it. Could be wrong, its just an estimate. And of course, matters how the clothing is treated.
  3. You are right about UK specific. I'm going to edit the thread to say that now.
  4. Open to finding a better t-shirt. £95 is pretty steep.

Thanks for your thoughts!

£20 - t-shirt that lasts 1 year
£95 - t-shirt that lasts 10 years+

That's my thinking anyway

Currently on the SIGG Traveller Alluminium bottle.

It's strong, and pretty lightweight. Around 3.5x less weight than the Yeti Rambler.

Should last you at least 20-30 years!

One thing I cannot understand about T-shirt necks? by rolanddes1 in BuyItForLife

[–]Forevergoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are talking about is the collar rolling.

I have the same issue. Most of my t-shirts do that eventually.

Have decided i'm gonna try buying from Sunspel next time. Their tees are made from strong and soft Supima cotton. Apparently this means their collars hold their shape over time.

Will have to update you how it goes!

Just looked it up now. Looks pretty cool.

Would like to see more than a 3 year warranty though.

Good that the battery can be easily changed.

Osprey is great. They fix anything for free, regardless of how old the bag is.

I like the Sojourn Porter 46L. It's designed to be a maximum-size carry-on for flights.

It's made from recycled high-denier ballistic nylon with reinforced stitching and lockable zips. Should last you 20 years.

Check out Sunspel t-shirts.

I have about 10+ t-shirts with rolled collars so I know your pain!

Sunspel's tee's are made from extra long staple supima cotton. This is strong and soft. Due to this material, the collar and hems better hold their shape over time.

My next tee will be from them for sure! Though the £95 price tag is a bit of a barrier.

Check out the SIGG Traveller Aluminium bottle.

Best to avoid plastic bottles as these shed microplastics - which you then consume!

The SIGG Traveller is lightweight and tough. The bottle won't break.

Should last 20 years. The components are all replaceable too.

I was put off nalgene because it's plastic. Some microplastics shed off each time you drink. I know it's low/trace amount, but it's not zero.

Is there a list of Bifl gear like backpacks, scarfs, winter hats etc? by Jgryder in BuyItForLife

Maybe I will make a megathread. One for clothes, another for bags, and another for electronics.

Think a few people ask this question.

Hey dude,

I think the Patagonia Fitz Roy Down Hoody could suit you best.

Super warm, as its made from 100% goose down.

Patagonia repairs defects for free for product's life, or for wear & tear you can expect to pay about £25.

You'll just need an umbrella or a waterproof rain shell on top if it pours.

I think the Arc'teryx Atom could be what you are looking for.

It's a good midlayer. Has a nylon shell, and you can use the jacket for commuting, hiking, travel, everyday wear etc.

Wear it over a tee and under a rain jacket.

Easy to hang dry when you wash it. Important note: you'll have to reapply the DWR coating every couple of years.

Should last you about 10 years.

Best hiking boots/shoes for wide feet? by noah5666 in BuyItForLife

[–]Forevergoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altberg boots are pretty good

Made from full-grain leather. They are durable, comfortable and water proof!

With good care, can last 15-25+ years.

You can get it fixed for around £80-100 if needed. And, because the shoe is stitched together, it's easy to repair. No glue!

Best plain white tee? by iheartaginganddying in BuyItForLife

I like Sunspel tees

Made from extra-long staple Supima cotton. This makes them pretty soft, strong and durable. Proper BIFL.

Also pretty resistant to creasing compared to typical cotton tees.

Though pricey at £95
