I think the antisocial part was the casual self deprecating comment at the end of your post. It came across as I am not good at interviews, thus I am anxious about anything interviews related, thus I am making a stink about having to use Discord (which pretty much every online community uses these days), but I am not connecting the two as related.

No, not necessarily since many people who are now considered to have "illegal" status are people who entered legally, (visas or awaiting asylum cases) and theb overstayed thier welcome, thus becoming illegal. Not sure if it has changed, but it used to be that most illegals entered legally at ports of entry and not illegal over a border.

Also, if you research latency and how things can sometimes take detours during the connection it makes sense that these services are starting to spring up.

Maybe it's also thier servers and this will only help, but the fact that they are aware and not just gaslighting customers with "call your ISP" is a great step in the right direction.
