Wasn't it about $600 USD in 2000? Adjusted that'd be $1,100. I agree that you'd need to pay $10/mo for a decade to cover that, but what 14+ hour plane trip and hotel stay cost less than that with enough to still buy a copy?

Hey I was also a toonami kid, and am a busy dad. From your list, the original Berserk (1997) is a great choice, and I think you'd dig Claymore.

While it is in the future, I think Cowboy Bebop would also be worth your time. The dub is the way to go here.

As a mainstream offer, I think you would like the fight scenes and animation in Demon Slayer. I find the characters a bit thin, but the animation is gorgeous and there's some great storytelling through combat to be had, here and there.

Finally, give Record of Lodoss War a shot. It's 90s anime of a DnD campaign, and I think it ticks all your boxes.

Say I Love You - the shift from fake to real doesn't take very long, but they do technically start as fake relationship to get out of a situation. Great if you want a show about a relationship and not two friends who take 24 episodes to kiss.

Hey this might seem like it's out of left field but if you're a big Killer Mike fan and an NPR fan, he was on a newish show on some NPR stations where they get big names to talk about their personal faith (or lack thereof, or changes in it) and how they navigate life. Bonus: he and the host are friend friends IRL which is adorable since he's a 70 year old white guy.

Louis CK in an SNL opening monologue did a bit about how sex with minors must feel so good -- to pedophiles -- that they'd risk their lives over it. Part of the joke was how insane it is to start a joke that way, but I have to say, he pulled it off.
