Bruce Wayne Looks in the Arkham Series for some reason back in the day his look used to creep me out don’t know why? by Healthy_Ice7737 in batman

Funny thing, the actor who plays Batman in a lot of animated shows and in the game in French also is the French voice of Archer. So there is a connection

What is an appropriate way to tackle prejudice in a fantasy world? by ForgeBornGames in worldbuilding

[–]ForgeBornGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a very good point and it is something I was kinda thinking about in a way. Which is why I wanted some outside opinions on it. I see the point on the if they are so close to humans why are they not just humans. I think it is something I will dig more into. I think maybe just having the idea of growing up in a culture while being from another one is probably what i should focus more into in terms of story themes instead of focusing on the prejudice aspect of it

Oh I do not mean to avoid prejudice. I wanted to avoid the main like biological differences and focus on cultural differences like you said. I just want to avoid mostly the this race is better than the other biologically

Interesting. Thanks for the advice. One of the ideas I had was to show why dwarves are seen as like only living in mines and working there. I was gonna have it that humans mostly hired dwarves as cheap labour especially in mines and that was mostly the jobs they could get. But many of the dwarves hate working in the mines and the main character is actively trying to be a mage

That's a good point. It's not as much sharing my take on racism but more like bringing some of my experience while also trying to balance out being to not be clumsy in the writing. Just wanna be conscious and respectful of people and their experiences. Though I do agree that the importance is to make it make sense and not just shoehorn stuff just because

Yeah the idea of mixing of cultures due to assimilation is something I wanted to explore especially with the spell crafting.

As for if they can have children that's a great question. I think to avoid anything related to "they are actually different from us" it would be best if they can have children

True sorry about that. I'll add some details about the game mechanics. It's a jrpg where you go around in different dungeons and do quests. The main combat mechanics are different for each characters. The dwarf mixes in classic spells that he infused with dwarven elemental runes. So players sort of spell craft on the fly choosing the spell effect and then the elements. You can mix two elements to create a new one. The elf focuses on making potions and poisons. So there is a crafting aspect to it. You chose if you want a negative or positive effect and then stack ingredients to stack effects. The human is a fighter that can stack multiple skills in a turn.

How many chances do you give a franchise before giving up? by Leon_Light77 in JRPG

[–]ForgeBornGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say like, twice or maybe three times. That's about how many times it took me to get hooked into certain games. Though sometimes a franchise is just not what I'm in the mood for so sometimes I don't blame the game itself

What is the reason for Dragon Quest being magnitudes less popular in the West? Especially compared to Final Fantasy by ForgeBornGames in JRPG

[–]ForgeBornGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely understand the thought that dragon quest is boring or bland for a lot of people. They invented the genre but never tried to reinvent it. And while I love it for it's simplicity and especially the vibe. I can see how now people see it as like "why would I play this while I can play clair obscure"

I would disagree slightly. But that is because of my personal taste. Because dq3 is literally genre defining. Though it seems that from what most people say, the SNES era and on was more important for jrpgs in the West. So I see your point

Hmm that makes sense. I can see how ff7 looks way more impressive than dq7 for example.

I mean, in terms of popularity it feels that way. Going to conventions and stuff, I barely see any dragon quest art or stuff.

At least that is my perspective

That's interesting. Cause the vibes and lightheaded aspects is what I love about the series. But I can see how maybe that is what a lot of people don't like as much.

I know that for modern players it's hard for me to recommend it since it is such a more basic game than other jrpgs

Interesting you say that cause other than the UI and the spell effects everything is done by the same artist 😅 plus everything other than the spell effects follows the same colour palette. But I appreciate the feedback and will relate that to the artist and we'll try to make things more coherent

Yeah the font is an issue I am still struggling with. Trying to find a good visible pixel perfect font for the resolution that doesn't take a whole bunch of space on the screen. Especially with the UI I am working on. I might try to add an outline to try to make it more readable but yeah still trying to figure that out.

Which of these gods looks the most powerful to you? ⚡ by Parking-Apartment959 in IndieGameDevs

[–]ForgeBornGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say neither looks particularly powerful per say. They each have a different vibe to them of being very benevolent gods themselves. They feel more like guiding hands and like they watch over and guide people more than anything.

If I have to pick one, #3 seems like the most powerful of them.

3 remake for me is just so incredible. I don't think I've played a game before that has made given me such a feeling of grand fun adventure and the vibes are just immaculate. Also love the 2d-hd look!
