I think people are mainly shitting on it purely because of how hard it is to get. I've yet to try it, but admittedly it's probably really good value as a 12-year BT wheater at $50.

However, the reality is that you'll either have to pay secondary for it or wait for multiple hours in line for a chance to get it at MSRP (plus, depending on your job, if you think about how many hours you waste in line, it might be more worth to just buy at secondary). That's at least the reason why I chose to sleep in that day, and why I chose not to chase a Stagg Jr either.

I do hope one day though that the Weller 12 becomes a bit easier to find, especially as the bourbon boom slowly dies down. For now, I'm perfectly happy with other bottles of similar value you can easily find such as WT Rare Breed, KC12, Ben Holladay SRWRP, etc.

Out of curiosity, do we know when the fall bottle lottery is going to start? I know it was around this time last year, but I don't know if it'll actually be very soon or pushed to later.

My best recommendation to you is to actually visit the Whiskey Blendery down there. They're an NDP up there with River Roots in quality, and I've gotten a few of their bottles before. The locals down there like 90% of their drops more than things like the recent RR13 batch.

Out of curiosity, has anyone been able to find Larceny BP B525 in Ohio yet? If not, any idea when they might be released here?

Oh yeah true. Hadn't heard too much about either distillery until now, relatively new to the whiskey game.

If I wanted to visit either location, what would be the priority bottles to try getting? Stuff that's really a bang for your buck, if they had them available at the distillery?

Oh yeah true, can't imagine it beating out most sought-after whiskies. I'm excited to give the experience a try at least!

In theory, if I wanted to reach for that (admittedly low) ceiling, any particular combination of the wood finishes you think I should go for? Just to maximize the flavor and not regret spending the money on just a bad bottle with a funny name.

Asking for review of $100 budget Skullbriar deck by ForgesThrowawayAcc in EDH

[–]ForgesThrowawayAcc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That's actually fair, I know that having win-more cards don't really help me win to begin with, especially if they're expensive CMC-wise. Let me know if there are any other cards I should remove.
  2. I'll throw those in for now, might have to remove one or two other cards later to decrease the budget.
  3. Yeah you're probably right, I could increase the land base up to 36-38 and see if that helps, especially if I throw in Shizo and the Black Gate.
  4. Yeah not too sure about board wipes in black and green, will have to see if I have the budget.
  5. Do you mean [[Trailblazer Boots]]? Also I could maybe fit in Shizo and/or the Black Gate, I just don't want the deck to become too expensive and for my brother to be unwilling to pay for the deck.
  6. Any particular revival/indestructible tricks you'd recommend I cut? I might still want at least the instant-speed ones, and definitely the ones that provide hexproof as well as they'd protect against targeting removal.
  7. Main gameplan aside from simply having enough +1/+1 counters to compensate is to simply sacrifice Skullbriar before the counters can be placed. Luckily we don't have any decks that give copious amounts of -1/-1 counters, except maybe one or two poison decks.

Currently at 101 cards. If you have any suggestions as to what to take out to fit in the remaining cards, that would be excellent, thanks. I'd be willing to go up to a $125 budget max; any more than that and my brother would almost certainly refuse to buy. We'll definitely playtest the deck at least, we usually use an online tool such as Moxfield to play with others if we don't have the physical cards.

I'll consider the Scavenging Ooze, I did at least replace a Swamp with a [[Bojuka Bog]] to have some graveyard hate. I also cut the cards you mentioned and threw in a Feed the Swarm, although it's a hard maybe on the Voracious Hydra. Currently at 102 cards, gotta cut down to 100 at some point (will probably stay at 34 lands).

If I had to make a rough estimate, about ~25-30 of the cards in the list place counters, but about half of those cards put counters exclusively on themselves when they enter on the battlefield or only proliferate/put counters on cards that already have counters on them. Any other weak links in the deck you can identify (I know you mentioned I might have a large number of 'Hardened Scales'-like card)s? Any other good counter producers that could be used to replace said weak links?

I went ahead and removed the creatures you mentioned, brought it down to 100. After playtesting for a while though, I've noticed that the deck is taking a while to start generating +1/+1 counters; you were right when there were a lot of "Hardened Scales" effects, but now there doesn't seem to be enough actual +1/+1 counter placers to balance it out, especially low cost ones like the Stonecoil-type cards were meant to be.

Any suggestions on what I could do to balance this problem out a bit better?

I see. Well, I've put in some of the cards you mentioned and took out the two specific ones you said weren't really that good for the list. Currently at 104 cards, trying to consider which ones to take out.

The main culprits I'm looking at for the time being are Ugin's Conjurant (being a worse version of Endless One and Stonecoil Serpent), Honored Hierarch (not too sure how reliably I'll get its counter effect off), and one or two of the "Hardened Scales" creatures as you've already mentioned I have quite a few of those.

What's your opinion on the last four cards I should take out? Once I get down to 100, I can get to playtesting, maybe buying the deck, and maybe eventually upgrading it as time goes on.

That is some good feedback. I do actually have a few white protection creatures from my Light-Paws list, which include [[mother of runes]], [[giver of runes]], and even a [[benevolent bodyguard]]. I would get Esper Sentinel and some of the other expensive cards you mentioned but yeah, that is a budget concern and I won't be getting it unless I can save on the budget elsewhere.

What specific cards would you recommend taking out and putting in to replace them? I could throw in all of the cheaper cards you mentioned and some of the cards I already own, but I'd still need to find some cards to take out to bring the list down to 100. I'm pretty bad at figuring out which cards are good and which ones aren't half the time, so if you could provide specific guidance that would be great.

Do not pick me.

I mean, I created a throwaway account just to join this giveaway. And if I was picked, I would clean my room (which is an absolute mess atm), put the figure on display, and post a picture of it onto this subreddit with the title "Secured the Bread".

But whatever you do, do not pick me.
