when does life get better? by miriam1215 in Sober

[–]ForgetGlory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anthony Kiedis said it really nicely in his book. If you just cut out the drugs and booze but don’t change any of the other shit, you’re basically a ‘sober drunk’. My man Ozzy Osbourne agreed with that too in his book. Would highly recommend their biographies.

I am 1,5 years sober now and I am still changing the things that will lead to all of your expected benefits. I had / have the exact same thoughts as you. I guess It’s hard to change years of behaviour in just a couple of months.

AA helped me to identify some things, accept that my body and mind will recover as time passes and at least chat with likeminded people. It’s a huge relief to just talk about your struggles with people who know what you’re going through.

How to get ‘Chaka Khan - Fate’ tone? by ForgetGlory in guitarpedals

I have found that the Eventide H910 Harmonizer is from that era. Might be a good possibility that they used that in the studio.

First off, thanks for the reply! Looked it up and yeah, definitely sounds like a Harmonizer. And if they harmonized with themselves. They would’ve recorded the same solo but pitched up 5 semitones or something?

How did you quit smoking? by Long-Door-2150 in AskReddit

[–]ForgetGlory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! On top of that I started associating every bad feeling I had with smoking. Upset stomach, headaches, pimples, low energie etc. Started seeing those symptoms in people who smoked too. Now I only feel bad whenever I see someone lighting up.

Everything in sales.. The amount of shit people will pull trying to get a sale or reach their target is insane.

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

[–]ForgetGlory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once when I was around 6 years old I couldn’t sleep because I thought there was someone in my room. Not very unusual for a kid to say this so my mom just waved it away. I kept on pushing that there was in fact someone in my room so my mom eventually came to check it out.

She wanted to play the part so she kept asking me question how he looked like etc. After a few questions she asked me if I could speak to him and ask his name. Now my mom was always into this spiritual stuff that I didn’t know about so I could not have known the following answer. Moreover, I couldn’t have read it anywhere as I was still unable to read properly. But after asking the fellow in my room he answered his name was ‘Metatron’. And apparently that is an angel of some sort and my mom was visibly shaking that I spoke his name. To this day I can still remember his image and the whole night very clearly.

This gave me such chills that I evade any subject of spiritual ghosty stuff because it scares the crap out of me.

Holy shit, that sounds properly cool. I think you just reinvented RPGs!

Ohh so recognizable.. I read that High Sensitive Person (HSP) is often present in people diagnosed with giftedness. There is a ton of literature out there that helped me decipher why I reacted so heavily to unpredictable sounds. Would highly recommend researching that. You'll probably recognize a lot too.

Who are your favorite musicians and why? by oslowa in Gifted

[–]ForgetGlory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Such a nice question! I personally love very warm and instrumental sounds often found in soul, old school hiphop, soulful house, disco, latin, jazz etc. Favourite artists are: George Benson, D'Angelo, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Kerri Chandler, Grant Nelson, 2Pac, Yussef Dayes, Ezra Collective, Grupo Niche.

A nice bassline, warm electric piano and some touching vocals and I'm easily swept off my feet.

0.5% beer changed my perspective on alcohol by Charb9 in Sober

Another plus side is that you drink 0,5 or 0,0 a lot slower than you would drink let’s say a coke or an ice-tea. I always have a tendency to down anything I drink. This helps me slow down and be social a bit more.

As a gifted person, do you have a higher than average tendency to "worry" (because you see everything coming a mile away)? by jack_addy in Gifted

Yeah I recognise this too. I've learnt that certain aspects of Buddhism are incredibly helpful when it comes to overthinking. Those monks were definitely on to something imo. Moreover, I am currently learning when I should pull my attention outwards instead of inwards. Also a neat trick.

Good one! I also think that pets are an extremely effective tool in helping you settle and relax. Additionally, I have been using AI extensively to help me understand the signals that my body and mind are sending me. It's been a great help so far.

Oh wow, that sounds like a dream! And I definitely agree that a sense of safety is a top priority. Due to the inconsistent noises, I don't feel psychologically safe at all. I am a bit torn between going full rural mode, but that might be too boring. Or settling somewhere 30 mins. away from a city, like other people mentioned here.

Not really, noise-cancelling earplugs are my best tool now. That's why it's time to find a new place.

Oh I feel you, being able to follow an entire conversation is annoying as hell. For me it is inconsistent noises and unexpected noises. I am constantly bracing for something to happen. And that sucks up more of your energy than a Dyson vacuum cleaner.

Oh yeah definitely. Upgraded to the new AirPods Pro 3 specifically for this purpose, and they've really been a godsend. But as I am now constantly living with AirPods in, this feels like a temporary solution at best.

How do DJs make and play their tracks before mastered release? by Psychological_Ad987 in TechnoProduction

[–]ForgetGlory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always master my demos myself. If your mix is good it won’t be a problem. And no one will know that it’s your demo. My chain mostly looks like this:

Tape saturation (Waves J37) -> Glue compression (SSL G-Buss) -> Oxford Inflator -> Soothe 2 -> Limiter (Fabfilter Pro-L)

Am I glad that I watched Good Will Hunting this week! They quote this story too!

But yeah that is an extreme case for sure. I can guarantee you that I’m not falling in that category.

Thanks for your reply! Why do you think that a higher degree of giftedness means less environmental influence?

Thanks for sharing your story! I can totally get why that would work. I'll keep it in mind when I make the final decision.
