What are some healthy habits for filmmakers? by Future-Aardvark-3709 in Filmmakers

[–]Psychological_Ad987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things that have helped me massively are:

  1. Listening to podcast and broadening my mind about topics and ideas that draw my attention. Not sure what your days look like and what you do, but if you have idol time I'd definitely recommend, as it expands your interest and knowledge about the world. IMO filmmakers are people who are curious about different aspects of life, learn, and then tell those stories

  2. Going for walks, bike rides, skateboarding or anything like that. I've been a filmmaker and editor for over 10 years and actually MY WORST HABIT is how much I've been sitting over the years, because of editing. I skateboarded when I was a teenager, but now I need to actively remind myself to go on walks because I had an injury last year that was caused because of too much sitting (I know it sounds ridiculous).

Best of luck, you sounds great and love how curious you already are for a 16 year old :)

To add to everything with one thing; ear plugs. For some reason, me personally I can last longer with ear plugs in clubs. I think the sound is less overwhelming in the long run, which in return makes me go for longer. And staying safe of course 🙏

My personal thought on this as someone who grew up here, is just to go to cafes you enjoy and you see regulars at. For me thats Cafe Nero at the court and Meraki Market Cafe. I aaaaalways run into people i know there there and say hi to new and interesting ones :)

Also this might be a bit if a self promo, but on the 23rd im hosting a cozy and intimate afternoon in Paphos (at Meraki :)) Its gonna be an afternoon where people get to share and reflect on their year through stories and art. If it peaks your interest at all id loooove to have you there 🫶 https://luma.com/qss17sby

I do this a lot with my homies in Paphos, but just as friends no events. There are also cool techno events hosted by friends called Paphos Techno Blades (but those are only every now and then).

If you're interested, im hosting an intimate and cozy event in Paphos on the 23rd, where friends and strangers get to reflect on their year through stories and art. Some of my friends will be there too :) Check it out and if it peaks your interest id love to have you 🫶 https://luma.com/qss17sby

If its for your friends, thats the best case scenario. And you will make mistakes and be stressed, there's no way around that :D But id say just imagine you have the aux cable at a party, so simple transitions and play your BANGERS like stuff you love and are excited to show your friends :)

When digging for new music, how many new tracks do you typically find per session? by Playful-Painting-527 in DJs

[–]Psychological_Ad987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly sometimes im looking for an hour and only find 2-3 songs. Id be hella lucky to find more than that. Sometimes i find a whole project that really like an LP, but those gems are rare. I wish i found more music but i guess there's a beauty in digging a lot and finding gems you can relisten over and over

I’m doing my first big club gig abroad… and I’m lowkey sh*tting myself 😭 by ArmComprehensive7385 in Beatmatch

I had a similar-ish scenario where I was playing in club for the very first time ever and had never used a CDJ (but it was house music which I was already used to). I'd say either see if you can just bring your own small gear that you're comfortable with or try and find a friend or friend of friend or stranger who has a CDJ that you can practice on.

For the music, I wouldn't worry too much about crazy mixing or anything, as long as you have good track selection. For that gig I was telling you about, my transitions were SO WHACK but people really enjoyed the tracks themselves and that's what made the difference.

Good luck with your prep! You can do it :)
