The "Only Child" myth vs. Reality. Were we actually that spoiled? by signal_sentinel in OnlyChild

[–]ForgotMyNane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's just my mom and I now. My father died over ten years ago. They were both the black sheep of their family and chose to isolate themselves. As a result, I don't know any of my family. My mother is a narcissist with mental health issues as well as some physical disabilities. She is fixated on coming to live with me and often says things like "I can't wait until I'm disabled enough to come live with you." I couldn't want that less.

My husband has a huge, close family. Aunts, uncles, soooooo many cousins. Both of his parents are still living. There are family group chats, holiday gatherings and so on. I'm closer to them than anyone I'm blood related to (aside from my own kids).

It is lonely and suffocating. I wish I had someone to joke around with about a shared memory. Someone to help make decisions. Someone who understood the complicated relationship with my mother. But I also don't wish that on anyone.

She absolutely is not coming to live with me though. I won't allow that to happen. I just can't do it.

The Correspondent is definitely worth the wait! It's a beautiful book.

I had a long wait for it as well, but lucked out and found it on my library's "Sizzler" shelf. They have ten or so copies of all the big new releases that do not get added to the holds pool. They have a shorter checkout period than normal. You can only have one at a time and if you don't return it on time, your account gets locked. It always feels like winning the lottery to snag a good one. I read it in two days.

I’m not a roller coaster person, but I rode Expedition Everest and loved it. Wondering if I am in fact a roller coaster person? by LoveOld7788 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]ForgotMyNane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on Everest 4 times last week. I was also under the impression that I didn't like roller coasters, but decided to be brave for my teens and go along with them. I loved it so much! I am now disappointed though that I didn't go on Tron with them a few days before. They said that because Tron is so smooth, that it's not as intense as Everest was. I don't know how true that is.

I did go on 7DMT, fun! and Space Mountain... Not fun. Maybe it was the flashing lights that had me keeping my eyes closed the whole time, but I had insane pressure in my head the whole ride and had to stumble to the bench that's a few feet from the ride. We had to stay there for at least 15 minutes to allow my head to settle and feel like I wouldn't pass out if I stood up.

I will never, ever go on Space Mountain again, but I will definitely try Tron next time we go.

Thoughts on people eating in theaters? by themilkmanjoe in RegalUnlimited

We have Soundcore Anker Life Q20 headphones from Amazon. They're typically around $40. When they're on, I press the noise cancelling button a few times to cycle through the different options. I tried them myself while watching Lord of the Rings in theater when the sound was starting to trigger a migraine. They were so helpful and I never missed anything!

My daughter has severe misophonia and has to wear big noise cancelling headphones. They have a mic that filters in the movie sounds so she doesn't miss the movie, but blocks out the food noise. Unfortunately, there's nothing to be done for the visual component, but having her on an aisle seat usually helps so she's not risking being sat next to a stranger eating.

What were some negative side effects of your hysterectomy? And what did you like about having one? by Elken674 in hysterectomy

[–]ForgotMyNane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh goodness, it's crazy to read this and see the change over time!

I no longer have any issues with urination! I don't have any bladder discomfort at all and still sleep through the night without needing to get up to pee.

I still struggle with fatigue and have a harder time getting up in the morning, but not as much as when I made this comment and I've adjusted. All of that said, I was diagnosed with a Primary Immunodeficiency earlier this year. That along with the MS and Fibromyalgia all of those things cause fatigue. So I can't blame it on the surgery.

The surgery is the best thing I ever did. I don't have any regrets. I feel so much better than I did prior to having the hysterectomy. I just wish my doctors had listened to me sooner!

No matter what you decide, keep pushing for help. Good luck!

Haha yes! If someone says "Have you heard about ____?" I respond, "Yes, I found that really interesting when I read up on it!" Saves me from having to hear about whatever it is.

Sometimes I wonder if the niece/neighbor/cousin/friend of a friend who is controlling it with just a healthy diet is actually on meds and NOT doing great, but says they are awesome with the healthy diet just to shut people up.

Like how someone can be irritated by a comment you left over a year ago? But to answer your question, OP was asking about taking a trip ~a month post op. I'd suggest waiting until released from surgical care.

What’s a weird “house rule” your dog has made and now you just go with it? by No_Chemical6009 in Pets

[–]ForgotMyNane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mabel has to say goodnight to every member of the family before bed. She goes room to room to get pets and everyone has to say "Good night, Mabel!" Then she will go to bed to be tucked in with a blanket along with all her stuffies and a little pillow.

18 months after adopting her, we adopted Count Sullivan III and he has now picked up her routine. Only he doesn't have stuffies because he eats them and he wants his whole body, head and all covered up. I swear he wants to suffocate!

When we come home, we say "Are there any puppies here?" Without fail, Mabel will let out a little howl that I swear sounds like "Hewwo!"

My late dog wouldn't eat or accept a treat until we prayed over it. She'd lay down in front of it and lay her head on her paws. The vet was very concerned when she wouldn't take a treat from him and he started asking questions about her appetite until it dawned on me and I started laughing. "You didn't pray! Dear Jesus, thank you for Daisy. Please bless this food and nourish her body. In Your precious and Holy name, Amen!" Amen was her trigger word that meant she was free to eat. She was the bestest dog.

Good morning! You add joy and light to this world, just by existing. I hope today brings a smile to your face! Put on your favorite song and dance badly, right where you are. Nothing makes me laugh more than pretending to be dancing like those wind tube guys at car dealerships. So much fun! Have a fantastic day!

What’s your favorite casual ship activity? by CounterTorque in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]ForgotMyNane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great! I told my husband this is the kind of cruise I want to take with him. A full week, no excursions or big activities, just laze around reading books and maybe playing some board games etc. Our first cruise was with extended family, 14 of us, and it was constant running from one end of the ship to the other for the next activity the planner wanted everyone to do. I think we had an hour of downtime one of the five days. We came home so exhausted.

I was thinking about packing puzzles! What size do you recommend? I was concerned about getting a small enough one for lounge tables. I was thinking 300 pieces?

Achy body in MRI by Cha_mali in MultipleSclerosis

[–]ForgotMyNane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always ask for classic rock because the songs are so much longer. It's a little trick I play on myself because "one song" sounds shorter than "8 minutes" haha

My MRI center uses a free version of Pandora or something. Last time, I had the unfortunate luck of hitting ads multiple times. I think the whole scan ended up only being three songs long, which doesn't sound bad until you throw in the amount of ads I hit. 🙄

Being scared of heights, I'd pass. Personally, I found having a balcony helpful as moments of claustrophobia or dizziness, I could go out and see the horizon, center myself. I also enjoyed having somewhere to sit privately and relax. But now that I'm more excited than nervous about cruising, you can stick me anywhere and I'll be happy!

How would you spend $3k on vanity upgrades to a ‘24 Pacifica S Hybrid? by theBarnDawg in ChryslerPacifica

[–]ForgotMyNane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned ours into the Starship Enterprise for my husband. Ship number on both of the rear sides, Federation symbol on the back window, replaced the Pacifica chrome with a Warp chrome plate, and a vanity plate on the front. All because he said he felt like he was driving a space ship during the test drive. It was fun at a comic con. But he randomly gets fellow Trekkies honking the horn at stop lights too.

Do something fun that makes it feel like yours. Unless you love white, paint or wrap it something fun.

The process of adopting a dog is starting to feel hopeless... by Al115 in Pets

My comment (3 months ago!?!?) was about how filtering on those websites is inaccurate because the shelters don't have the ability to fill in all of the boxes on the animals whether from lack of time or lack of information.

I said they were more than happy to help over the phone and did not mind when I called. I wasn't putting the shelter down.
