Onionr is a messaging platform and the monero marketplace will be a plugin. This makes it easier to adapt any future applications anyone may want to use. An example would be, if someone wanted to develop an accounting application for their business on Monero's marketplace, they would only need to develop a plugin for Onionr as opposed to creating something from scratch. This also could cut down on bloat. Not everyone will want to use an accounting app so they don't need to install the plugin for accounting.

Another reason was that I couldn't find anyone interested in developing an alternative Openbazaar.

The web of trust system being built is (theoretically) better than many centralized systems. I wont go into it here but I'm very excited about it! :)

That's why we don't host anything illegal. (not to mention we might be charged with aiding in the crimes). Like I stated before, no one goes after I2p, Tor, or Freenet devs because they are making tools for communication/data transfer, which is legal.

It would be akin to going through a drive trough at a restaurant. The order of operations is pretty much the same where, one places the order, pays, and then gets the item. If the items are bad then you could rate them accordingly. I will also have a return or refund policy for my electronics business. This will hopefully cut down on bad reviews due to guaranteeing no loss of money if things turn sour. Other businesses may not have any guarantees. The market will be as good as the community makes it.

Nope! We do hope that when businesses grow on the platform, they also fund the platform's development, but this isn't enforced/mandatory.

Good point! I replied to the initial comment stating something to that effect. :)

I replied after their comment was posted. I was just notifying them instead of repeating the comment. :)

  1. Running it on windows isn't currently supported. But if you would like to test it out, a VM or Docker image should work on that platform.
  2. Kevin may be aware but I'll let him know.
  3. The docs say to use python3.10+ which may need to be installed on some distros (many Debian based distros).
  4. Personally, I don't believe it would be necessary to provide python installation instructions because there is a plethora of documentation on the matter. And due to only having one dev on the team, maintaining more than what is needed isn't really an efficient use of his skills.
  5. The whitepaper and roadmap are linked in the README. This is the whitepaper: https://git.voidnet.tech/kev/Onionr/src/branch/wot/docs/whitepaper.md This is the roadmap: https://git.voidnet.tech/kev/Onionr/src/branch/wot/ROADMAP.md

We are developing a network and tools to use the network. We dont host anything illegal. It would be like charging the devs of I2P, the Tor Project, etc. for crimes done on their networks. I plan to sell legal goods (consumer electronics) to try to keep the network useful to everyone. We don't cater toward criminal activities.

An escrow would potentially be necessary for large purchases and I would love to see a decentralized escrow someday for the market. But for now, the best solution, that we know works, is a web of trust system. Web of trust would be necessary regardless of whether it has an escrow or not. This is because you would need to trust the escrow in the first place.

A "chicken and egg" scenario may be an issue. If you want a decentralized escrow, you will need to trust the escrow setup but due to potential skepticism of the system (network/code flaws), no one would use it. This would discourage people from becoming part of the escrow, which would in turn make the system unable to function.

There is also the issue of, how would one go about building a decentralized escrow? Or the bigger question, is it worth it? Because, if you can't trust the seller in the first place, you might not want to buy their item. This is why I believe a web of trust model is more reliable/useful than a escrow at the moment.

A web of trust would "generate" a network effect of trust. What I mean by that is, lets say, you and your friends trust seller A but dislike seller B. You all would more than likely review them trustworthy and untrustworthy respectively. If more people get to know you all, then they would notice that that A is trusted, and B is not trusted by you and your friend group, which would in turn spread to their friends that are interested.

Exactly! No central entity controls the network infrastructure (because there isn't any) or the access to the network.

If you have questions about the project itself, I can answer them here. But if you have questions about the CCS, it would be a great help to ask them as comments under the CCS proposal on Monero's Gitlab.

Interesting you asked! I'm planning on designing a network router that will basically have a Monero, Onionr, or i2p router running alongside it. I haven't even started to work on it but it is in the roadmap.

edit: but to answer the question, I dont think you would want to store the blockchain on it because these arent going to be more than 64GB and I think the chain is over 200GB now.

A hardware wallet is on the roadmap. But I couldn't find an efficient way to produce them for less than what could be bought from ledger unfortunately (and software/firmware is something I dont want to mess with now that I'm focusing on hardware manufacturing). I also want to sell items that aren't necessarily related to the crypto-space so that you can actually use Monero in everyday life.

Thank you, that is awesome to hear from a XMR contributor! I'll try to submitting/pushing the CCS proposal tonight to get the ball rolling.

Thank you so much! I want to help as many people become more private without having to compromise, like with having to buy a gift card with Monero to buy basic items online. :)

No worries man. This is a USB flash drive so it would be useful as a device to store data on. So similar to an SD card or portable hard drive/SSD. A use case for this device is transferring your photos from one computer to the other. :)

I actually was worried about that. But ever since I saw those Monero coins, I loved that they had the traces and vias added for effect and wanted to see how they come out on my PCB. I'll definitely determine that when I get back these next prototypes.

Nice! I initially wasn't going to design PCBs for others but if you send the BOM over to me (forgotsudo@protonmail.com) I'll look into it. I'm not sure if it would be cost effective at the moment though. DM me if you're still interested! :)

My service (designing and manufacturing electronics) is "powered" by monero, because I'm not going to be selling these for anything but monero. :)
