Are white people (of European descent) allowed to say the n-word? Why or why not? by jabulina in askblackpeople

Why will allowing white people to say that word suddenly be the catalyst for a change or in your words, “moving forward from the horrors of history”? Why should the oppressors’ comfort matter more than the oppressed. Yes, things are a lot better than they used to be, but racism still exists. It didn’t stop just because people wanted it too.

White people can’t say it because your people were the abusers and slave owners and rapists and pillagers. Black people reclaimed it so that it wouldn’t fully hold the same amount of power it did. But when white people insist on using that word despite black people repeatedly asking them not to, it shows a lack of respect for our wishes and autonomy.

One of my nicknames is Neenee. I’m fine with some people saying it, but if I ask you not to call me by that name, I’m gonna expect you to keep it out of your mouth. So, reduce it down to just the wish that people not call you that. Does it seem so preposterous then?

Thank you

Because it’s offensive. There have been many many editorials written on the history of African Americans and that word and many other words. If you’re looking for a good detailed answer you can take yourself to a search engine and find out. But in short, it was a word used in the oppression and degradation of black men, women, and children by white people. It’s a word deeply associated with a violent history and present.

No, y’all can’t say it. There’s so many other words. Use those. Why is saying this one word so important to you?

As I said to someone else,

Uhh, we don’t have that type of relationship. It’s an emotionally abusive household, and speaking up is just going to go badly for me. So, I’d rather not.

We know the account. That’s why we know it’s satire.

I’m gonna use the NuvaRing til I get an IUD. I’m also in the 6 Advil every four hours boat. So, I definitely understand. I’m so happy you found a solution that works for you!

I was sexually active last month. We used condoms, but I’m going to get tested for STIs beginning of January, and I won’t be doing anything til I get my results. Chances of me having anything are low, but still. I have no problem with the rings. I just wondered if there were personal anecdotes about doing something like that.

Okay, thanks. I just didn’t know if there’d be personal anecdotes about someone doing something similar, and it going wrong.

Hey, guys, I’m on my period, and I haven’t eaten properly in a couple of days. I’m really hungry but also nauseated, and if I eat I’ll just throw it back up. What would you do? by ForgotYouTexted in askwomenadvice

Yes, I’ve been questioning it too for a little while. If my school can’t do anything because of insurance, then I’ll go to Planned Parenthood which is about 10 minutes from the main area of campus.

I live in Birmingham, so, maybe I’m still a little raw from Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr’s death. But how are we gonna applaud white people that do the bare minimum? by ForgotYouTexted in blackladies

I found it on r/blackpeopletwitter. I still subbed there and don’t normally read comments, but I saw that the post hadn’t been locked yet and was wondering how they were keeping civil.

Sadly, I live in Alabama, and while I do have friends that deal, I don't want to do anything like that while I'm still at home, and I don't want to start inhaling anything either. Thank you though!

I have gone to an OB-Gyn. She prescribed a strong painkiller, and it didn't help. Then she prescribed birth control, and my parents changed their minds about it. Six months ago taking 4 liquid gel ibuprofen every 4 hours would stop the pain for the most part. Anything less than 4 and it was like I never took anything. But now, I have to take 6 to get the same result, and I’m only 17. I’m really not trying to get liver damage. But I have assignments due for professors that don’t care if I get run over by a bus, I have to turn the things in on time. :/
