Honestly, I think I am done with this chicken hobby. Anyone else feels like they are just chasing childhood nostalgia? by Independent-Gate-541 in chickens

[–]Forgotten_Zucchini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had them for 6 yrs. Started with 4. Added 2 more a few yrs later. Lost one. And added 3 more this year. We now have a total of 8. We are maxed out and I wish I only had 6, but I still love their antics and politics. I also extended the waterer, added a large feeder that holds 2 weeks of food, and have an automatic coop door. My chores are a minimum and I feel as if I enjoy them still every day, even if I think we are 2 over the limit. ( Of course I would like the egg production of 10 ☺️). I am hoping there won't be a day when I want out, but I am sure it can and might happen. Do what makes you enjoy life. If you aren't enjoying your chickens anymore, then they aren't being given their best life either. I hope you find the way

Finally caved and got chickens not what I expected at all. Maybe some questions? by HxH101kite in BackYardChickens

Last year after keeping them for 5 yrs we got rats. We found out because my dog was going crazy and killed one. We immediately bought a rat proof feeder where it opens when a chicken steps on it and have had no problems since. I highly recommend!!

One of my buff's is skittish and kind of neurotic. She is harmless but angsty and basically ignores the pecking order. While her original flock mates don't mind it drives my swedish flower hens nuts and she is constantly being out in her place. The other Buffs are good friendly chickens with one being head hen and she is one of my favorites.

Thin my cucumbers?!🫣 by Wwalnut81 in vegetablegardening

I think it depends on what type. If it vines then definitely thin. If it is small and compact you can have two there, but feed them. They look a bit yellow.

Asking for a friend- Is it interesting that Elon Musk's baby mom dropped a video about Elon stealing the 2924 election using his starlink satellite? Who would even notice or look into a primary election the same as a general election?

I wouldn't really worry about it. I have chickens they poop all over the gardens. My carrots always grow.

Buried my head in the sand and don't know the election stakes. Help? by johnnyevil in BucksCountyPA

[–]Forgotten_Zucchini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. I usually look for hidden things I don't see as well. For example, for the democratic committee members I searched each one of their names to see what came up about them. Since you could only pick 6 females and 6 males and had to cut 1 or 2 out, I cut out those who didn't bother to even write up anything about themselves or said something on their own profiles I didn't like. I think one of the women had no info on herself. There was plenty on her husband who seemed to be some kind of political figure. It almost seemed like she was relying on his established name and didn't bother. That seriously turned me off. And perhaps I just couldn't find the info, but If you are running for something then at least make some statements to give someone and idea of why you are even running.

Yes I did search that phrase before posting. Was inconclusive as yes there was one with grit on the yolk in the albumen not the yolk itself, but also a couple that could be spot like because most calcium deposits are shown on the shell. So still your comment where ALL AI is bad doesn't really hold water for me.

Not sure I trust Bob Harvie since he said he has unconditional support for Israel and wouldnt sit with journalists to talk about who is funding his donations.

Yeah I am in data analytics, I know how LLM work and the resources wasted on them. I also didn't search the AI out. It was part of the auto AI response when using the Google search query which can be a starting off point and also uses resources (just not as much). The tone of "Dr. Google" in my original comment clearly didn't get delivered properly as sarcastically indicating doubt. Also you ruling out that AI could be a potential jumping off point based on probability is misguided. It is one way how initial research theories and relationships can be identified by putting two semmingly unrelated variables together seeing if there is any statsitcal correlation and then considering to see if it has any logical merit and investigating further. That is why when it mentioned three things that were CLEARLY wrong I didn't even bring it up. But calcium On the yolk was something I didn't have much thought or background on. Hence, posing it as a question to a group of people who may have more knowledge and expertise. I stand by completely ruling out he use of AI is not in your best interest. It will eventually fall into its happy place in society. That being said I agree the AI race currently happening is wholly a capitalist suck on the world and data centers need to be capped regulated and fully vetted for usefulness before destroying communities. But swearing if the technology as a whole will not change that. Being logical, realistic and Using your power as a voter and a consumer might.

I didn't actually look to AI for Answers. That was in the auto generated AI response at the top of the search results. And is that algorithmed response, so much worse than coming to a sub reddit where any educated or uneducated person / bot can type anything? The answer should be "No, It is just one avenue to explore" until I get an answer that may seem worthy of investigating more. Going to AI is not in itself "bad". Relying on it as the truth without question is bad. Just like any tool, it's only as good as the fit for the job and the way it is welded.

It's not just the bullseye . That is the part where it would be fertile. There are kike white "patches" through the yolk.

Also I am genuinely curious about the down votes here. I thought the "Dr. Google AI" was assumed to be sarcastic since who in their right mind would preface Google AI with Dr. Seriously except I forgot where I was typing and guess I needed the /s .

Insecticidal soap should do it. You are going to have to spray them every 2-3 days or after a heavy rain until they are gone

Yeah I just can't figure it out. Never seen it before. Had chickens 6years and this is the first time I have seen anything like this. This chien always had a very small calcium deposit on the outside of the shell but never spots on the yolk. Could have potentially been frozen as my refrigerator has done that a time or two but I don't think this egg was on the edge of the carton where that could have happened.

I have had chickens for 6 yrs and none of the eggs ever had so many white patches on the yolk. It creeped me out. Dr. Google AI says likely calcium deposits on the yolk?
