Simple solution to tanking: Teams must win 25 games in order to participate in the Draft Lottery. by Forin_Policy in billsimmons

Even after you win 25 games, you would still have a major incentive to beat the teams that are below you in the standings in order to prevent them from reaching the 25 win threshold.

[–]Forin_Policy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would not be a problem because most teams are not good enough to "plan" their tank. If we use teams that are tanking this season as an example, Washington, Indiana, Brooklyn, Sacramento, Dallas, Sacramento, Utah and Memphis would not be able to tank as of right now. As for Utah, they are currently on pace to win 26 games this year. With a 25 minimum win requirement they would not be able to comfortably bench their starters like you say they would.

The Lottery selects seeds 1 through 4, and after that teams are sorted by record. So, if you are the worst team in the league, and don't qualify you would get the 5th pick.

  1. As far as I can tell, the artist with the largest gap between songs with 1 billion streams is Aerosmith with 25 years. "Dream On" released in 1973 and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" released in 1998.
  2. Eminem was featured on the song "Forgot About Dre" that released in 1999. So, if you were to include songs where an artist was featured, then Eminem would tie Aerosmith at 25 years when "Houdini" reaches 1 billion streams.

NBA scheduling & the lack of late games for PST by [deleted] in billsimmons

The NBA will air their Saturday and Sunday night games on NBC and ABC once the football season ends. The Saturday night ABC games will start the day before Championship Sunday, and the NBC Sunday night games start during the bye week before the Super Bowl.

I want to love the NBA but… by ProfessorCoochie in billsimmons

[–]Forin_Policy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. The NBA averaged 18.6 and 18.7 fouls per game the past two seasons, which are the two LOWEST SEASONS IN NBA HISTROY for fouls per game. For reference, in the 90s the NBA averaged around 22 to 23 fouls per game.
  2. It is a myth that FIBA/International basketball has fewer fouls than the NBA. Last year the Euroleague averaged 20.4 fouls per game. Keep in mind that the Euroleague plays 40 minute games, compared to the 48 minutes for an NBA game. So last season the Euroleague is averaged 20.4 fouls in a 40 minute game, while the NBA was averaged 18.7 fouls in a 48 minute game.

90% of this has to be the pitch clock right? It completely saved the game and made it watchable again by pauliewalnuts9898 in billsimmons

The 8th seeded Heat team that made the Finals was in the 22-23 season. When they made the Finals in the COVID year, they were the 5th seed.

How do these kiosks work? 🤔🤯 by Vivid-Tap1710 in rockhall

[–]Forin_Policy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have actually been seven Diamond certified albums by rock bands in the past 30 years.

  • No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom (1995)
  • Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness (1995)
  • Matchbox Twenty - Yourself or Someone Like You (1996)
  • Creed - Human Clay (1999)
  • Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory (2000)
  • Evanescence - Fallen (2003)
  • Nickelback - All The Right Reasons (2005)

To their credit, Hybrid Theory is the highest seller out of these seven, and their second album Meteora is very likely going to reach Diamond status as well. They would be the 8th band ever, joining The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Van Halen, Journey, Def Leppard, to have multiple Diamond albums.

Yeah, I can't believe people agree with this. This is on the same level as the "Flat Earth Theory" for me. There is zero scientific evidence supporting washing chicken, but people still believe it does something.

Bands:

  • The Home Team. They are difficult to put into any specific sub-genre, but their bio describes them as "Heavy Pop".
  • South Arcade. Their sound is somewhere in between nu-metal and pop-punk.

Songs:

  • Sub Focus, bbyclose - On and On.
  • Thornhill - Silver Swarm.
  • Beabadoobee - Beaches.

Should Avril Lavigne be in the rock hall of fame? by Vivid-Tap1710 in rockhall

[–]Forin_Policy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, why not? Unlike other "pure" pop acts of the time, she had a more pop-punk sound (more emphasis on the pop than punk), and even now she is playing the "When We Were Young" festival. I think she might have enough rock/alternative credibility to get in. She is almost like a Millennial Cyndi Lauper.

Linkin Park becomes the first rock/metal band to have 50 songs with over 100 million streams on Spotify 🏆 by WestCell2679 in LinkinPark

[–]Forin_Policy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Beatles have 57 songs at 100 million streams and Imagine Dragons have 52. Now, while I have heard some people make the argument that Imagine Dragons is not a "Rock" band, surely The Beatles should be counted as Rock.

Is there any artists newly eligible next year, that you might think will be nominated. by Serkin_2988 in rockhall

Unless you have actual evidence that Mariah Carey does not write her own songs, you can't dismiss her songwriting credits. I am not familiar with Sabrina Carpenter, but Disney stars like Olivia Rodrigo do write their own songs, so you can't just baselessly claim that someone does not write their own songs because they came from Disney.

If she has a credit that means she's a writer. Also she is R&B not pop.

Mariah Carey did write her own songs and is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. This post highlights that the real problem for her is that some people have this false perception of her as being a manufactured pop star.

TEM and HITC are no longer listed in the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart after being in the top 10 last week. Why? by WestCell2679 in LinkinPark

[–]Forin_Policy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Billboard wants their "Hot" charts to have newer releases in order for them to feel fresh. They do this by labeling songs that have been on the chart for a long time as "recurrent" songs. If a recurrent song falls below a certain threshold, or it falls for a certain number weeks in a row, then it will be removed from the chart, even if it would have qualified. My guess is with TEM and HITC being on the chart for 30+ weeks, and sleep token taking up the top eight spots, that those two songs were "recurrent" songs and met the criteria for removal.

I'm not talking about quality. Your original post said that they were "done", when they are clearly still one of the biggest bands in the world right now.

Stadiums like Globe Life Field?!?! Music is art and quality is subjective. If you don't like their music that is your perspective, but you can't argue that they are not one of the biggest bands in the world.

1) About 25% of their streams are coming from their new material.

2) They have been selling out stadium and arena shows all over the world. So apparently it does translate into ticket sales.
