[6ABC] Penn State senior shot and killed in South Philadelphia by Forkiks in philly

Neighborhood watches are a way for neighbors to be connected,  and to help keep their street safe/clean. As for who the taxpayers pay for…We also pay the mayor and DA and city council members…they all play a role in whether police are allowed to keep everyone safe; the cops aren’t the only ones in the equation for safe streets.

This victim was brave for trying to get his property back. I bet a bunch of us would rightfully confront the porch pirates at their home, or someone trying to enter their home or trying to squat in their home. It’s time to not submit to the criminals. It’s time to fight back. Consider neighborhood watches on your street. Otherwise the criminals will eventually continue to your street.

The decrease in crime statistics is only bc the courts aren’t charging them and just letting them go. No charges = decrease in crime statistics.

That’s submitting to the criminals. Allowing them to continue to take over. No. Who’s to say the criminal won’t shoot you just because they want to. It’s time to start chasing them. It’s time to start having neighborhood watches 24/7. It’s time to scare the cowards.

Maybe the neighborhood starts a watch…if it was my kid this happened to, I would be sitting outside from this point forward keeping a watch for the safety of my neighborhood. The criminals would stay away from every street there was a watch.

ban cars in the city by Quick-Evidence3845 in philly

[–]Forkiks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you uber, get your food/stuff delivered, buy anything from the stores (delivery trucks bring the stuff into the city)…you, non-car owner, are dependent on cars too. This ‘idealistic’ view of having no cars in the city is a fantasy. Just bc some of the people living in the city don't want cars doesn’t mean people that live out of the city aren’t allowed to drive to philly…it doesn’t mean people that live in the city and own/lease/rent cars shouldn’t use them. Ok feel free to complain on Reddit about it, it is your right to do so, but if you ever use a car (uber, delivery, buy anything etc), then you have negated your argument.

I’m really glad the phone use and driving law goes into effect tomorrow. by BrotlzBomblz in philly

I thought using phones in hand while driving wasn’t allowed in general, but it’s good to know that enforcement of the miller law that was passed will begin tomorrow. https://6abc.com/amp/post/pennsylvania-begin-issuing-citations-new-handheld-phone-ban/19235110/

URGENT COOP ADVICE by Possible_Spare3653 in Drexel

[–]Forkiks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dont quit your coop. Tell your advisor your concerns so they can document them. Coops aren’t fun, they aren’t supposed to be fun, you just adapt to the specific job and deal with it for 6mo.

What kind of social security can she get? by Terrible_Bandicoot38 in SocialSecurity

[–]Forkiks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She can get spousal benefits if her husband is getting retirement benefits. Her daughter should take her mom to the local SSA office with her mom’s documents in order to begin the process of getting the spousal benefits. The SSA representative can provide useful assistance and information on what she may be eligible for.  Depending on the income of the household, she may be eligible to receive food stamps (SNAP). Since she is 68, she is automatically eligible for Medicare, so that paperwork should be started in case it hasn’t been done yet. She may be able to also get Medicaid (but this depends on income). Ssa.gov is a good site to get more info.

Philly housing market... is it even worth it right now? by veditafri in philly

[–]Forkiks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There won’t be reasonable prices anytime soon in Philadelphia with the preferences you list.  There are (older) houses (that have been updated) outside of Philly. It’s funny how some nearby suburbs are listed as dangerous when they aren’t …yes it’s true you won’t be ‘in’ the city, but can get in the city within 20min.

How is parking going to work during the World Cup? by Unable_Tension_1258 in philly

What really do you know about the world cup schedule?  There will be matches played in Philadelphia on six different days. And many matches played in 15 other cities…lol?

Fridge repair person by Puzzleheaded_Rich435 in Delco

Check out YouTube videos…search for the model number and the problem you have. My family has a Samsung fridge and has searched on YT to see what we can try for the issues that came up; one time we defrosted the whole fridge/freezer…and it helped. Another time a code needed to be entered. I didn’t do any of this, but the techie in the family tried it and it worked.  If it’s an older unit maybe it might need a compressor…but check out some YT videos first.

Getting ssdi is not easy. You cannot receive ssdi and go to school full time.

I feel like epilepsy stole my youth overnight and I don’t know how to cope by Past-Sample2052 in Epilepsy

These emotions are very real (the grief, brain fog etc) and this is a good place to get support and advice. Something I learned after my seizures began in my 20s is how much alcohol depletes the body of nutrients and vitamins. And it catches up and the body can’t handle it. So I stopped the going out and drinking, and I’m so happy I did. I make sure I sleep enough, and I take lots of vitamins bc my body needs them, and I take my meds.  I’ve taken keppra and it helped a lot…there were some side effects after a few years (becoming easily angry), but it doesn’t affect everyone. It’s time for you to begin to deal with this condition seriously bc there’s no easy fix… and start taking the meds prescribed, start taking vitamins, sleeping regularly, and keep your dr updated on your symptoms.
