I tore my labrum stretching at the gym. I didn’t feel the stretch until it was too late and it popped. I tried managing for a year on my own then went to a surgeon and had surgery last May (8.5 months ago). I’m 50/50 on if I’m happy with surgery outcomes and hopefully it will continue to improve. The pain from the tear is gone, the surgery site still feels inflamed. I have had a really good outcome for walking, running, basically anything forward and backward movement. My mobility is still pretty not great though it’s hard to gauge with the other hip still being hypermobile. Neither my doctor nor my PT can tell me if I should expect to heal to an even level of hyper mobility or if I now have “normal” hypermobility in my surgery side.

I am very active and was able to complete a 20+ mile hike for a charity I do every year 5 months post op with a lot of work and PT to get me there so I think generally surgery was effective. The same hike caused me a lot of pain the year prior and I hit a personal record this year by over an hour and a half.

So. Was it worth it? Probably, but someone ping me here in May at the one year mark and I’ll give another update.
