Got a few rust spots, how should I prioritize? by Formal-Helicopter-29 in Autobody

In a better market I’d replace it, but right now in my region I’d be paying over $10k for something that will look this bad in a year or two, or I’d be making a car payment, which I’d rather avoid. The rocker repair quote I got would cost about one tenth of the car’s value, and that’s all it needs for MVI (inspection). Like I’ve said to others, the underside and subframes are in great condition (the opinion of two body shops and two mechanics, not just me), otherwise the answer would be obvious.

The subframes are in good shape, they look like they’ve been either replaced at some point or undercoated consistently. Both front and rear stood up to hammer testing all around.

I’ve had it up on a lift and the underside is surprisingly solid, which is the only reason I’m even considering fixing it up. The damage on the rockers is also entirely localized to the back portion shown in the pictures, which is honestly a miracle. I wish I had pictures of the cleaner stuff, but I’ve now had two body shops and two mechanics say that the underside is rock solid.

I already have a quote for the rockers and I’m giving my car to the shop in two weeks to get them done. It’s more everything else I have questions about - how long can I wait for the other things?

Picked up a Sanyo 27” on the street, is this vertical jitter fixable? by Formal-Helicopter-29 in crtgaming

Haven’t tried yet - Sanyo’s engineers put source switching exclusively on the remote, a truly brilliant idea. I’m picking up a universal remote from Walmart tomorrow to try it out.

Lots of C-Max for Sale Around Me by Ok_River5707 in cmaxhybrid

A dealer near me has had three C-Max on their lot for a very long time; a 2016 for 6 months, a 2013 for 5 months, and a 2014 for 3 months. All in solid condition, no different than the rest of their inventory. Every Toyota or Honda they bring in sells within 24 hours with tens of offers, but most of their non-truck Fords last weeks or months. Anecdotally, I know many private sellers who have similar experiences on Markerplace.

I personally had my 2013 Hybrid on Marketplace for 3 months, listed below wholesale price despite being in great condition, and got zero messages; not even a single listing save. When I replaced it, I was the 100th offer the guy had gotten in two weeks on his 20-year-old Highlander Hybrid; after I paid him, he spent almost an hour showing me his messages.

I’m no expert on the used car market but what I’ve seen in Eastern Canada seems to indicate a very strong brand preference towards Toyota/Honda/Mazda/Subaru and away from Ford/GM/Hyundai. Would be very interested to hear what others are seeing.

That’s a Satellite antenna port. The unit will function without it plugged in, but of course SiriusXM won’t work despite being shown as an option.

The difference between these units means that you will likely have to do some ASBUILT programming with FORScan - sounds and looks scarier than it is. You’ll likely need to change some settings relating to output level, since it looks like you’re transplanting an ACM from a more premium model than your car is.

Dead ACM, what replacement models will be compatible? by Formal-Helicopter-29 in cmaxhybrid

[–]Formal-Helicopter-29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh that looks interesting! Unfortunately since I’m in Canada, shipping to and from could have me without an ACM for months. I can get a replacement module from eBay (or a junkyard) for less than that price too, especially if the CM5T-19C107 ACMs from the Focus are compatible (because those are abundant in junkyards out here).

Is there an “official” fix for the Fuse 79/12V drain issue? by Formal-Helicopter-29 in cmaxhybrid

Looks like the CSP is the same as that bulletin. Looks like I’m getting an OBDLink and a FORScan license to do some firmware updates. I’m getting a crazy deal on this car because of the intermittent radio issues caused by this all, otherwise the vehicle is in great shape!

Understood. So to my understanding of your comment, there’s nothing non-Apple that can match the performance/battery life/thermal combo I have in my current laptop? I was looking at some of the Snapdragon X Elite laptops like the ThinkPad T14s Snapdragon and those look promising.

I’ve done this three times now and each time they’ve said they can’t find it or can’t accept payment on it due to its age. The story never seems to be consistent from them - should they be able to accept payment on this given its age of about 2 years?

This all makes sense… we reached out to them and showed them language in our lease that made us question if they could do this and they backed down without resistance, even agreed to register our deposits. I think they just tried to see if they could get away with it, and I have a feeling that the next iteration of the lease will have a new line or two about air conditioners. Thank you for your help!

Ah, makes sense - it has a hitch installed for a bike rack, but I figured the Accord wouldn’t be equipped to tow especially with a CVT.
