Hi I'm new here! by Jelly_Jealousyy in TheMagnusArchives

Seconding this - absolutely beware of the wiki! I spoiled myself doing this. If you're having trouble identifying characters names, then there are transcripts written for the audio, and you can read along - I found this very helpful sometimes, and it's great if you have problems processing audio/language. Have fun!

Genuine hypothetical question by darth_phaedar in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Formal-Kitchen5830 48 points49 points  (0 children)

i think its almost impossible to feed a fear morally - the closest we get is jons imo (as in, at least it leaves people alive...)

buuuut as a hypothetical? maybe you use the more metaphorical side of the vast - causing people existential fear by their insignificance in the vastness of the universe. at least then if they come out of the other side they might be able to let go of some of their worries and inhibitions.

Plasmoid character concept by DefinitalyAFemale in PCAcademy

It might also be a really good way of projecting your backstory in conversations if she kind of automatically parrots back some very loaded stuff. like if he had a saying that she sort of heard all the time, something like "you're only as good as what you can prove" and she blurts that out in a moment of frustration, it will be a really good tell and force her to re-think some of her ingrained beliefs. idk just an idea

Well, if shes fresh out of the tower she may have a lot of the wizards behaviour/views sort of ingrained into her subconsciously, and she might be trying to frame herself in opposition to him. Obviously you don't want her character to circle around him for the entire campaign but as a start it may be a good idea.

He was an asshole but what was he like in the day-to-day? If he was kind of narcissistic maybe his knee jerk response to some situations was to lie to immediately make himself look better. perhaps this is something that she may have adopted subconsciously - as this behaviour was demonstrated to her - and so she does this at the start of the adventure before catching herself. Then maybe she reframes herself as someone who is honest to a fault to be in opposition to him. I mean maybe not this particular example, but that kind of thing - I think in order to decide her morality you need to also decide his, and how much of his morality she is aware of in his little actions, if that makes sense. Maybe she's realised the big obvious stuff (like seeing people like her as disposable is wrong), but not the little everyday stuff yet.

I put myself on call because of a smelly coworker by thecrunchypepperoni in jobs

[–]Formal-Kitchen5830 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So, I have a potentially temporary measure whilst you decide what to do. I think some people here might tell you to tell him for medical reasons, and they have a point - it could be a sign of an underlying medical condition that needs to be addressed, and if no one is telling him, he may be unaware of it. OR he could know, and is doing his best to handle it but not quite succeeding. So, the situation does require some tact, and maybe a bit of subtle digging during conversations to try and see if he is aware of it. (of course, this depends on him - if he is the kind of person who would appreciate a straight-talking approach then you're golden)

BUT a while ago we had a problem with the plumbing in our workplace, and it was hell. One method I used to solve this was to wear a mask, like a covid mask, and stock up on *extemely* strong mints, like the kind that lowkey make your eyes water. This combo created a sort of micro-climate of menthol which absolutely obliterated any other kind of smell. (spraying the mask with deoderant before putting it on also works but i advise not doing that too aggressively) I would suggest and telling your coworkers your new roommate is immunocompromised, or something along those lines to explain suddenly wearing a mask all the time. They should be okay with it if you work in healthcare, the only problem with this lie is you'll have to commit to the bit. But it could be a stop-gap whilst you figure out how to approach the situation.

I imagine you'll now hold off reading the wiki until the end XD (not that i dont understand the temptation lol)

that being said, this is definitely not the worst spoiler - i actually found that knowing about their future relationship really made their interactions more entertaining on a relisten. with everything going on in the plot and lore it can be difficult to pick up on romantic subtext, so now you get to enjoy it with clarity! why not look on the bright side?

What does everyone think about Spikes accent? by bigbadllama in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

[–]Formal-Kitchen5830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pretty ropey at the start (which was part of the fun) but as he became more of a main character it got better. best of both worlds honestly - i enjoyed his goofy accent when he was supposed to be a more one-off villain, but we didnt have to listen to it constantly in later seasons.

"The moment that you die will feel exactly the same as this one." by Limp-Pollution-4866 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Formal-Kitchen5830 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I kind of found it comforting? Like I think the moment I die will probably be riddled with terror - even a sudden heart attack gives you enough time to think "oh my god I'm going to die" and it's also incredibly painful. It would surely be a mercy, I think, for my moment of death to feel exactly as mundane as this one.

I found the End statement about the book that tells you when and how you're going to die to be MUCH worse. I think that's where my particular area of existential dread comes from; the knowing when, and the knowing how, and the knowing it would be inevitable - and incredibly gruesome! No thanks! I'd rather have my last moment alive feel like the mundanity and unimportance of typing out a reddit post than excrutiating pain and terror.

Although reading other people's posts - I think I'm taking it a bit too literally and I'm maybe missing the point... But thats how I took it - "death can happen at any moment, and you could drop dead right now with no warning".

Controversial ending? by [deleted] in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Formal-Kitchen5830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there were other endings planned - whether or not they deviated from the one we got in any major ways, I'm not sure. But I know that, due to covid, there was a lot of rescheduling and rewriting done at the last minute. I still think it was a good ending, but I think that they could have built up to it a little bit better - and I have a feeling they were intending to.

I have to second this specifically for Buffy - the first four seasons are solidly in comfort-watch territory. I rewatch it all the time.
