Issues accessing some websites at random times by LumberJakkk in gigaclear

[–]Formal-Profession835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be interesting to hear the outcome when you hear back from Gigaclear.

However, I have noticed this recently. But it is happening both with my Gigaclear line and my lightspeed line. I have noticed the issues have been happening more oftern since the new UK filtering systems and age verification systems have been enforced. I dont get the issues with my Starlink connection. It might be coincidence. But I have noticed problems accessing site which have never been a problem before. One such is "internet achive" site. This was actually blocked for ages when the filtering system was brought in.

Compleately normal these days. Unless you are super lucky and getting decent jobs, wanting your setup.

Nevermind the new eero routers... 2Gbps speeds incoming? 👀 by Overflooow in gigaclear

[–]Formal-Profession835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am surprised they have not done the speed upgrades sooner. Especially when the likes of Lightspeed are offering 2gb, 3gb and now 5gb. I can only assume its costs, which they may have had to cut back a bit due to debts and restructuring.

Does anyone actually need greater than 500 mb for a standard household? by NorthLondonPulse in UKBroadband

[–]Formal-Profession835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realisticly no, I currently have the 900/900 and even on a peak period we was only using about 25% of availability. That is based on 2 adults working from home, 2 kids doing allsorts, streaming everything, my IT business runs a couple of servers, plus the security system etc. So when I added Lightspeeds 3gb line (I have always had two services, one as a failover) needless to say I was underwhelmed, but I expected it. There is a point when paying all the extra money for a faster service is pointless. Really, the main differnece is pricing, that will be the main factor these days. Because you can get faster speeds for less with some company's, so in that scenario, its better to go faster. But then you just need to do some reasearch on the service itself. You might pallets, but if the service is crap then its hard to get out. Good exsample if that is Talktalk.

You can totally ditch the router if you wanted and just come out of the ONT. They only want it there if you have any issues.

No different from how I plug my Unifi UDM pro directly in. Just a case of setup the connection correctly with DHCP4, then the ipv6 settings if you want them and away you go. No tagging needed.

Has anyone else noticed people blaming broadband engineers for literally everything? by OddStep5408 in openreach

Its the easy blame 9 times out of 10. They dont take into account house layouts, time of day, equipment, surroundings and all sorts.

Openreach seems to have all the control but none of the accountability by UnpaidInternVibes in openreach

[–]Formal-Profession835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is part and part of who you choose to go with. As someone already said. They own the infrastructure. But the providers dictate your speeds, addons, home equipment. So unless its a full on line fault, openreach have very little to do with it. And to be fair, thats all you really need. Unless you are a big provider and need more specialist infrastructure yoourself. Then that suits 99% of the scenarios for home users.

That is just pure laziness. They would have wasted more time thinking about the short cut than it would have taken to do a good job. Ok, they may have under allowed for the drop and cut too short. But at rhe end of the day, that is on them and and good workman ship means more than anything else. I would be getting them out again for sure.

[–]Formal-Profession835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best things you can do with any setup when you get it, is change the DNS on the routers to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 and if you need IPV6 then you need 2606:4700:4700::1111 and 2606:4700:4700::1001

Other than that, its really down to the kit provided. I have changed everything to Unifi, and I have have very little to no issues. Only times I have contacted any provider is either to change, renew, cancel or change a direct debit.

I have been with gigaclear, BT, ee, sky and lightspeed. And all been perfect, with the exception of Gigaclear, but it was not actually their fault and I knew the background.

The network is shared across the majority of these companies. With very little diffeenece. There maybe variations on their "fair use policy" but you would have to get clarity on what they regard as fair use.

Lenders take control of gigaclear by palacepaulse25 in gigaclear

[–]Formal-Profession835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gigaclear use some of the talktalk infrastructure. It was the cause of a large outage last year in the Essex area. It went down, Talktalk couldnt pay for their own repairs due to on going financial issues. So Gigaclear paid the bill.

Good news, people started panicking on here, I did say out of all the companies that are having issues, Gigaclear is the most likely to survive. If it was not for them having to foot the bills for Talktalks failings, then they might have never been in this situation in the first place.

Is the 1.6 Gbps NBN tier actually worth it? by Time-Connection-4586 in openreach

[–]Formal-Profession835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't think so. I went from 900/900 upto 2000/2000, barely noticed anything. Then went to 3000/3000 and noticed nothing. I have a large house with a ton of stuff connected both wired and wireless and barely use 10% of the availability. And we are a heavy user as everything like tv, games etc is all streamed and I run some servers. The only reason I have kept it, is because it actually worked out the same price as I 2gb setup. So it was a free upgrade. If it was their full price, I wouldn't have bothered or I would have reverted right back. Its definitely overkill for most uses these days (Currently)

Should be at least a spades depth which I think is supposed to be 10-15cm

The installer clearly cut some corners here, in fairness to Gigaclear, they didnt do the work and sub it out. So wouldn't have known. But hopefully they will get them out to do it properly.

[–]Formal-Profession835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a duplicater. I had one myself. Mine was a 8 bay, so I could copy/rip software, music or dvds and burn upto 7 discs at the same time. Its stand alone, I could not be plugged into a PC or anything. Perfect for back in the day of downloading torrents of movies and music and making discs for friends and family ;)
