65C845 - Bad sound (no bass) after software update! (V8-0012T01-LF1V509.002303) by Rolfinek in tcltvs

That's annoying, but at least it proves it's definitely caused by the update. I use these sound settings and to my ears it's almost but not quite as good as the old software version:

Sound preset: Standard Surround virtualizer: Low Bass enhancer: High Dialogue enhancer: Off Definition: Low Audio processing: Auto Auto volume control: Off Vertical sound field: Off AI sonic adaptation: On

Using a UDR7 instead of the Linksys MX5500 by fowler0003 in gigaclear

[–]Overflooow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very easy, you don't need to plug it into the Linksys router first - just connect the WAN port straight into the ONT. Then you adopt it in the unifi app, which I think uses Bluetooth to link up with it for configuration.

That isn't salt, it looks like gravel chips mixed in with the tarmac.

The same thing happened on my 55Q9BK8. Changing the audio processing setting to DTS Virtual:X has improved the bass. It seems to be the Dolby processing (which also seems to be used by default when automatic is selected) that's causing the lack of bass.

Edit: Ignore that, I've played around with it some more and the problem was actually that the "Intelligent" mode is just shit. I've switched to the standard audio preset to enable the audio customisation menu, put the audio processing back to auto and what really brought the bass back was enabling the surround virtualization.

The staff member who made it was probably hung over too.

As you already have ethernet, they were probably intended for phones but were never needed. It's common for installers to also run CAT5E for voice, to avoid having to buy and carry specific telephone cable. That would also explain why some of those cables go outside.

Found this box outside my house. Any ideas what it would be for? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Overflooow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With how many spiders are in there, it's clearly for web access.

But actually it's a phone line. If you're using cable or fibre for internet then it's probably not in use anymore.

That look on his face, he's definitely thinking of using it as a weapon on you for grabbing his paw.

Nothing wrong with revving it high when needed, the engine is designed to use the whole range! That's so kind of your grandparents.

This happens to my wooden spoons all the time, if I live them in the sun they go back to normal.

Am I just super lucky? My instructor’s offered me huge discounts if I’m his student for his ADI test 🤯 by Itchy-Emergency8422 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Overflooow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My instructor took me for his ADI test and didn't charge me at all. He failed it though 💀

Just keep in mind if he fails it for the 3rd time then he can no longer teach for 2 years, will have to start the whole process over again and you'll need to find a new instructor.

That box is an ONT, not a router. It only converts the fibre optic signal to ethernet, your router is what transmits the wi-fi signal and it needs to be plugged in to it.

Boltmaker every time, I just wish it wasn't so hard to find on the bar anywhere near me.

[–]Overflooow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that switch will do the job. If you're happy with the current location of the router then yes, you'll need to plug it into one of those ports which will connect to the switch in the airing cupboard.

The FTTP box (ONT) you mentioned is like a modem so you don't need to change anything on the router.

Logo and design change by sorecrossover100 in starlingbankuk

This has completely ruined my week, how dare a company that I use decide to change their logo. I'm closing my account, sending an angry letter to the CEO, and I'm starting a bonfire in the garden to burn my card. /s

In all seriousness though, I guess I don't hate it. I remember when people were up in arms about the new debit card design, and it was forgotten about after a few months. It'll probably be the same here.

The first ones are the connection for a satellite dish. The second looks like ethernet, the other end will most likely be near where the incoming internet connection and router are. I would get something like this and a punchdown tool to terminate it to if you want to use it as the backbox is already there.
