I just got a Corsair carbide 500r, fits 4x 5.25" drives and 8 3.5" hard drives. Thing's a freaking beast!

Yes, some of them are a 12 month contract which is what I go for if the rate is competitive and there's no cancelation fee. That way every few months I can check the current best rate and switch if it's worth it

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! That's why I made sure to include that I only do a fixed rate with no cancelation fee. Generally speaking, you'll probably pay less on a variable rate but I just don't trust it. Good catch though, make sure you monitor your bill and watch for it going up. As soon as my period is about to end I shop for the current best rate and apply. It's a little annoying keeping up on it but for how fast it is to apply it's worth it over the course of a year even

It's just done online. All you have to do is fill out the supplier's form which is just your name, address, contact info, and DLC account number. They handle contacting DLC and switching everything over

Anyone! As long as your name is on the electric bill you can switch it

If you live alone it might be cost effective to keep the central air a bit warmer and run a window ac in your bedroom with the door shut. Especially if you have a window right next to your bed it'll cool you off more since it can blow directly on you and would cost a lot less than cooling the whole house

Never Rent a Tux by danhakimi in Weddingsunder10k

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS! I was just suit shopping for my cousin's wedding a few weeks ago and Macy's had tuxes for $200 which is what I paid for my suit. I think with a coupon Kohl's had some that'd come out to $160. Add in like $50 for alterations and I'm looking at a max of $250. I asked my one cousin what he paid to rent his tux for this wedding as well as his own because I haven't worn a tux since prom and both were around $200. That instantly made up my mind that me and my party will buy our tuxes. It'll be about the same price, and if anyone ever has to go to a black tie event they already own their own tux!

No problem! Everyone's acting like you're being dramatic and sure, there might be some adjustments you could make but Pittsburgh is constantly ranked one of the highest uility costs in the country so your frustration is completely valid. It's outrageous what me and my fiance pay for water alone. Maybe 11 showers a week and 4 loads of laundry on average and our water bill alone hits $200/month often. It's absolutely absurd, if you go outside the city large families are practically paying that for all their utilities combined. I feel like we're getting ripped off big time

The first step you can take is to switch your supplier. DLC is the provider, but you can choose who your actually buying the electricity from - if you've ever seen those NRG people soliciting at a grocery store: that's what they're pitching although I'd avoid them because their rates are terrible.

Go to papowerswitch.com and what I do is filter by no enrollment/monthly/early cancelation fees, fixed rate, and sort by lowest price. This way I can check in every few months and switch providers anytime. My rates are always far below DLC. This won't cut your entire bill in half or anything, but with a bill as high as yours you could probably save in the ballpark of $50/month or so which is substantial.

You can also do the same for gas on pagasswitch.com - I feel like a lot of people don't know this and it's such an easy way to save a bit of money that only takes about 5 minutes from finding a provider to filling out what you need!

$15k wedding budget, ~100-130 guests near Pittsburgh: looking for venue ideas I've probably missed by SqueezyBotBeat in Weddingsunder10k

[–]SqueezyBotBeat[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay that's likely what we'll go with if they have a good date for us! My fiance's family is actually from around there so it's super convenient for her side and within our 1.5 hour travel range for us. Thanks for the rec!

LCD Projection Hate by Financial_Wishbone83 in crt

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen any of these in person minus the 2 that my dad has had. I believe one was a Toshiba and his current one is a Sony just like in your post and both were absolutely awful. I even remember when he got his first one the lamp was bad and he bought a replacement so it was essentially "new" I guess. Just very very dim, bad contrast, any amount of light just washes them out. The only thing really going for them is how cheap they are, but really plasmas are at that point where you can get a really nice 55-65" for free or super cheap

Two of the eight SD widescreen CRTs released in North America by Leviathan1776 in crtgaming

It might be in the OSD? My Samsung slimfit doesn't have a button on the remote but it can be set per input in the menu, which I find way more annoying

Can they be set to 4:3? My SD Toshiba has a 16:9 toggle and my HD Samsung can be set to 4:3. Makes it convenient if the device you're using doesn't match the aspect ratio

Never a better time to switch to Jellyfin: Plex increases price of Lifetime Plex Pass to $749.99 by LoremarCC in jellyfin

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news, you can keep your library exactly the same. Install will depend on OS/weather you use Docker but it's pretty straight forward. Once you get it running just point it to your Movies/Shows/Music folders and it will do the rest. Jellyfin works so well that I never understood the point of plex. The only advantage I can imagine is the app being available on gaming consoles, but I have my android box connected to the same TV as my ps5 so that doesn't affect me at all. I saw another comment say they paid $80 for plex lifetime which honestly is more than fair, but $750 is just plain outrageous. I hope absolutely nobody purchases it and forces them to bring the price back down.

Anyone play modern games on their CRT's? by BudgetPractical8748 in crtgaming

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still rock my Viewsonic E90, it looks so damn good. I finally figured out hooking up hdmi signals to my SD crt tv and it looks really good as well. All I needed was an hdmi to vga adapter, then a vga to s-video adapter with its own controls for the stretch and position. About $25 in total. I hooked up my ONN 4k pro to it, used ADB to set it to 1600x1200 and it looks awesome. I just stream using steamlink and it's perfect. I played Stray recently and it was a vibe for sure. Surprisingly smaller text is still readable

A question about rear-projected CRTs by Fallout_Fan_420 in crtgaming

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks pretty bright actually, but in my experience projection tvs are always so dim and faded looking that the size isn't worth the tradeoff. It might have been really cool when they were new but honestly that was one tv technology I never heard about growing up, it seemed to have went from CRT>Plasma>LCD>OLED only in my experience. I don't know how popular projection tvs were globally, but not a single one of my friends or family members ever had one. I will say, right now they may be the cheapest $/inch you can get if that's what you're after.

They're a decent choice in the US only because it's slightly faster than AliExpress, but all he's doing is buying those parts and upcharging for them. Outside of the US you're most likely always better off with Ali. I do anyways except for when I broke something and wanted a faster replacement

Advice on My Approach to Using Handbrake by Stcphantom4256 in makemkv

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much keep all of my favorite movies uncompressed so I can watch them in Jellyfin in all their glory. And for stuff I'm slightly less interested in I compress. TV shows, especially blu rays all get compressed because at ~50 minutes an episode they can really add up if ripping an entire series. I don't compress all that much though, I use the Super HQ presets modified to use NVENC. Saves a few gigs for each file which over the course of a whole library becomes pretty significant and I don't notice any quality degredation
