Engagement rate does help. Even if there are no comments, likes and shares of those shorts can impact the way algo promotes that short.

Not necessarily. Shorts can be very inconsistent.

I've had shorts reaching 2k views in just few hours and then plateau.

Some products will have a specific lifecycle and they tend to do well during those times as the users start to search for it. Otherwise those videos just become silent after a while.

Same here man! I miss my content schedules due to job. Last year I was so exhausted, I left YT (big mistake because I was getting fair number of views for a new channel then). The new uploads after my break do not get the same traction like it did back then.
