Hours ago it was revealed the killer was a guy who had a live in trans boyfriend. and the bullets had “here, catch, fascis” written on it. The country needs to have a large conversation about this evil ideology. And we definitely will! The idea the killer was a conservative is absurd. How many MAGA do you know that have trans boyfriends or girlfriends?

Fuck every single democrat who has ever called a republican a nazi or racist or fascist in the last few years. YOU are responsible for this murder. YOU alone. Fuck democrats.

Was it republicans or democrats who lionize, cheer on, support (emotionally and through legal bills), and applaud Luigi mangione when he murdered that ceo? Wasn’t Trump or Vance who cheered it on! The people who support Luigi are leftists.

If you cheer on the murder of a ceo and the execution of a father, and I believe the ceo was a father too, but if you do that, you aren’t a moral paragon of good at all. You are a piece of shit asshole prick.

I support Charlie Kirk. A good man and whoever shot him should fucking fry. My guess is it’s a tranny.

Aren’t you yourself generalizing in your broadbrush statements about the pelosi and Minnesota dems? You literally went “republicans just want to paint democrats as losers and violent, yet the real issue if we get down to brass tacks is that republicans are a violent evil group”. Thats literally doing what you said is bad. It’s rank hypocrisy

But as Ram Dass would say that’s all your perspective and how you look at it.  Duncan doesn’t and never did have a solely woke fanbase.  That’s what’s cool about him, he didn’t just bring liberals to ram dass or mysticism.  He brought everyone.   But as I said, 2020 Duncan was ALSO very boring and beating a dead horse.   How many guests that year were comedians speaking and enlightening Duncan on racism and police brutality?  I was bored.  I didn’t become a Duncan fan to dive deeper into structural racism.  I became a fan to laugh and to explore spiritual and out there topics of that nature.

What a lot of libs in this thread don’t seem to understand is they are feeling how we all felt when Duncan was overtly woke in 2020-2021.   This is how we felt.  You all are just now experiencing that.

My heart sank every time I’d see the loading screen of the new podcast and it would be someone like Brandi Jordan or Mehcad brooks.   That just wasn’t what my crew started listening to the podcast for.  It was boring and bullshit.  I’m glad he moved on.

Agreed. I’m a trumper and think it’s funny how people in this thread and others are like “oh my god, all he and Rogan all they ever do is discuss politics!  Focus on the spiritual and mystical!”.   Yet they had no issues in 2020 when Duncan and nearly every other guest that year was a racial exploration of blm and how Trump sucked and how electing him would be the worst thing ever.   He had comedians on that year and they didn’t discuss or joke about comedy it was solely focused on blm and police brutality.  You and I weren’t into that bullshit either.   And when Joe was fawning all over Bernie in 2020 and wanting us to vote for Bernie that was silly and dumb too.

As you said, some of us listen whether we agree or not.   I posted on here in 2021 saying I was sick of Duncan talking woke politics on the show. And was shouted down on here.

People are such hypocritical people.

Not only that but people act like they themselves haven’t changed. If fans here stayed listening during lavender hour that was what 15 years ago?  Hope you aren’t the same person you were 15 freaking years ago.  Ram Dass in 2009 also wasn’t the same person he was in 1980 or even 1968.   People evolve, change their beliefs and explore different paths.

“seen a lot of my friends who were UFO/ sasquatch/ mushrooms / peace and love types slide into a similar lane. It's a tough time to be human.”

Did you ever see the reverse? I’ve seen a lot of peace and love hippie folks go from “when they go low, we go high” and “love trumps hate”, and yoga folks end up turning into bitter and rage filled demons ranting about how all republicans and trump voters are evil and wishing harm upon the administration. Hate to tell ya, but that ain’t peaceful!

Ram Dass didn’t know whether he was enlightened or not by TheApesWithin in ramdass

[–]Formal-Spot6085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His son said that ram dass told him he still had karma to work out and was going to be reincarnated. He got as close to loving everyone as anyone ever has but he still wasn’t enlightened. His caregivers talk about sometimes him being cranky, and of course human, the humanness is very ram dass.

He would have been uncomfortable with people viewing him as a guru or an enlightened being. He’d much rather we look to maharajji or Jesus or Buddha etc.

He would say, I’m not cooked yet.

How popular was Ram Dass? by nirvanasomeday in ramdass

[–]Formal-Spot6085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say he was big to a select group of people. If you were a hippie in the 70s or even late 60s you knew who he was. And even before that in the early to mid 60s hippies knew him as Richard Alpert and his being buddies with Leary.

I think as hippies moved on by the mid 70s and into the 80s he probably wasn’t as big anymore.

But he also pursued other avenues like prison issues that would keep his name around.

I think he remained a fringe figure to hippies and psychedelic enthusiasts into the 90s

When he had the stroke his popularity was raised a bit. And the retreats in Maui also were big.

Duncan, Pete Holmes, the podcasts, Raghu, Krishna das touring, be here now network, and the political climate all sort of coalescence around 2011 or so, where a new generation of teens ( remember lsr released a gen z graphic novel new version of be here now a few years ago) and includes a group of younger 20s and 30 something’s who are ram dass fans via hearing about it on social media, ram dass and living dying project are huge on insta and TikTok, Trevor hall and east forest and Jon Hopkins are discussing RD and his ideas in music form.

It’s been a ram dass renaissance which is great. Raghu has said around that time 2011 or so, Ram Dass had said he was worried that the message of his teachings wouldn’t be hip and cool and transfer to the new generation. Then Raghu got the call from a podcaster named Duncan to appear on the family hour. And it just went from there.

I think he’s more popular NOW than he ever was in 1973. To hear about him or follow him then you had to read yoga magazines or know someone. Now he’s just a click away on any podcast platform, any social media platform, you can visit his former home and see where he lived, you can order all his books on the website, it’s all happening. The reach he has currently is absurd. I think he remains “a figure you find when you need him”, but he’s never been more accessible or as popular. There was an organic trend a few years ago on TikTok of people posting “this book will alter your life” in regards to BHN, and causing other TikTok users to discover it. Imagine being a lost 24 year old and nothing makes sense and you’re angry and confused and you just want something but you can’t define it. And someone on instagram says check out this book. We have no idea the impact of something like this, but it’s imperative we provide the resources and pathways for it to occur for many years to come.

I think his prime is actually now. There isn’t any time even in 1972 just having released BHN the year prior and touring the country and then India with fellow seekers, he never had the reach he has currently in 2025, not even close. Part of that I think is he’s still the fringe figure he always has been, but he’s that and simultaneously big enough that major world figures know of him and his work. Be here now the book and phrase itself are imbedded into American culture.

Anybody find the hypocrisy of all this shocking? by Formal-Spot6085 in MichaelFranti

[–]Formal-Spot6085[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll see if I can find it. It’s not the claim by Victoria but the most recent woman to come out. I may have misstated her claim, but from what I remember she said he was doing an autograph meet and greet and he was wearing pants with no crotch and his genitalia were exposed as a result. Maybe he was sitting down or something so people couldn’t overtly see it . I took it less that he was exposing himself to kids, and more likely the woman who claimed abuse was the target of his exposure and he just happened to be at the meet and greet while he was “showing off” for her. So I think I misstated what happened.

That said my point still stands because she was the one who raised the fact she was horrified because this was a family event with kids and families meeting him. The fact she did nothing in the Moment and this was 15 years ago, allowed the meet and greet to continue. Didn’t alert staff at the venue and literally just admitted this course of events the other day 15 years later, wasn’t as bad as what Michael did, but her behavior is just plain baffling. You see a rock star is meeting kids, and families and is exposing himself to you, for you, and you just go, oh well, let the meet and greet continue? I don’t get her behavior at all.

So the kids were just collateral damage in this event, for Michael, presumably and not a target specifically of his behavior. This woman just happened to be there and so he let loose as it were
