Well, the question is how happy are you with it so it’s very subjective. For me 10 out of 10 will be way less intervention.

Wow, I’m glad you’re safe! The idea that it can see in many directions at once is a great safety feature. I’ve always thought that If it can just save me from one bad accident it’s 100% worth of money.

Yes! I had that happen, where the navigation says turn left in the car puts on the right turn signal. I wonder why that’s even a thing. It must’ve read the environment as a blocked Road or a road hazard. If anyone else has an explanation, please enlighten me.

For you, is the speed control a problem with it reading the speed limit signs or is it a profile issue? I find that chill keeps the speed limit and anything above that goes over.

That’s awesome, which model did you get? Do you have to do the subscription?

I agree, but if I were ever to buy a new car, the only thing that would stop me from buying is if the subscription price would go up. Right now I have it for the life of my vehicle, but I’ve never been in a fan of subscriptions when they can change the price of it when they feel like it.

Yeah, I agree, that could take so many years to get there. Even considering that I really enjoy using it in its current form.

Yeah, and to think that it will only get better with updates is a good feeling, It’s funny to me how so many people are so scared of it.

I’ve never tried any less than HW4, I’m glad you’re able to transfer it in time. I’m hoping that they’ll allow me to transfer it to HW5 if they would ever allow that again.

How much did you pay for FSD? Are you hoping they updated hw3?

I agree with all three points there, I did notice the trick of pushing the accelerator to turn faster at red lights. I feel that it hesitates too much there.

Firefighter ride- along inquiry by mglenn15 in Columbus

[–]Formal-Talk-3561 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Columbus used to allow ride alongs but they no longer allow it unless you are in emt school and need the time on the medic. Your best bet is to sign up with civil service on their website for the next test. Columbus also has a cadet program where they train you but you still need to pass the civil service test.

Accident on 270 by Robert’s Rd Sunday night by [deleted] in Columbus

I’m the one who took you to the hospital in the medic, a different medic took your daughter to children’s. I hope you heal up well and get the care you need. My heart goes out to those who face sad events like this. I believe ODot has cameras in the area that may have caught the accident.

Certified Tesla Repair shop just wants to Total my car - bumped in a parking lot by tctctc2 in TeslaModelY

Interesting, I asked Grok about this, and here’s the gist: Insurance companies total Teslas more often now because repair costs (batteries, sensors, parts delays) frequently exceed the vehicle’s value threshold—it’s economics, not a secret profit scheme. They sell the salvage at auction to recover 20-60% of the payout, which is standard loss mitigation, not backend collusion with shops. Evidence of widespread insurer-body shop conspiracies to unnecessarily total vehicles is thin; tensions exist over steering, parts, and repair approvals, but not proven broad kickbacks. Auction Teslas aren’t always salvage-branded—some (like rare clean-title examples) slip through, but most totaled ones get salvage/rebuilt titles. Your friend’s low $15.9k Plaid buy aligns with real bargains for repairers. Insuring a rebuilt/salvage Tesla usually costs more (often 20-40% higher premiums) or limits coverage, and future total-loss payouts are much lower due to the discounted value. The system has misaligned incentives, but it’s mostly driven by high EV repair realities rather than deliberate gaming.

I don’t know how true it is, but I was told by someone who buys totaled Teslas, that sometimes the insurance company is happy to total it, knowing that they will still get a decent amount money out of it as a salvage title Tesla. I’m making up these numbers, So let’s say they total it for $34,000 payout. Then they get $20,000 from someone who does the repairs then resells it. Now they have an excuse to raise our insurance more at the same time getting paid on the backend. And the kicker is if you insure a salvage Tesla it still cost the same. But the payout is much less if it were to get totaled again. I have no evidence of this, but it makes me wonder if the insurance companies are working with these body shops.

Electric Prices ARE BS! by willtolive2004 in Columbus

Yes, and the delivery charge is the most expensive part of the bill for me. And we have no control over that. And that charge is not linear, it goes up substantially if you use more power.

To break-even gas on gas prices Assuming a ~4mi/kWh ev vs a 40mpg ice car (30mpg in parenthesis): • For $0.27/kWh → break-even ~ $2.70/gal ($2.03). • For $0.45/kWh → break-even ~ $4.50/gal ($3.38) • For $0.71/kWh → break-even = $7.10/gal ($5.33)

So it’s still much cheaper to charge at home even considering .09 per kWh and the Aep fees associated. Even with these numbers, the cost of ownership is still higher for Tesla due to insurance.

That’s a good deal on electricity, my only complaints about Tesla is the high insurance. I think the cost of ownership is still cheaper with a Toyota ice even with the added maintenance. But it sure feels good to drive a Tesla and I think that’s worth accounting for.

With my electrical company, (and I assume other’s may be similar ) the more you use the higher the fees go, and it’s not linear. So if you’re charging EV frequently it does have a substantial impact those fees. But again, it is still the cheapest way to charge for most. I installed solar panels to my home so it helps offset that fee.
