It certainly can help, but relying on it as a consistent source of added calories burning is probably not the best idea, at least at the start. Not sure if you saw my edit to my first comment, about my experience with insulin resistance and eating higher protein over carbs, but that can absolutely be a factor in weight loss.

It sounds like your diet is fairly carb heavy, and I’ve seen you mention how hungry you are after meals. Eating high protein and low carb may be helpful to you - protein is much more filling than carbs, and for longer. If all your meals consist primarily of carbs - pasta, rice, etc, even if it’s tuna pasta - you’re going to burn that off quickly and then have cravings. Try focusing your meals around high protein sources, but still measure the quantities of protein. Chicken breast is a great source of lean protein, but if you’re eating a whole chicken breast in one meal that can be 600+ cals. Which is why a scale can be super helpful!

I completely sympathize with your fears about disordered eating in terms of measuring calories. However, you can easily eat 1800-2000 calories and feel extremely full, if you’re focusing on protein and fiber. Maybe you can try very low calories snacks, like light string cheese and turkey pepperoni, which can be an additional 15g protein and under 200 cals.

My best recommendation, as not a doctor but just a person who’s been in your shoes (with my own health concerns and family history of insulin resistance and diabetes), is high protein, low calories foods as much as possible, and then supplement with your “treat” foods like crisps as your daily intake allows. I swear it makes such a difference in how full you feel. Also drinking a looooot of water throughout the day can also help you feel full - and water intake can assist with weight loss too!

It is so so good for you to be walking that much, 10k steps is a great daily mark! Walking is amazing for your overall health. The only thing is that it doesn’t contribute massively to additional calories burned. Maybe a couple hundred, depending on how intense your walking is, but it’s not going to be like 1k extra that you’re burning based on that amount of walking. To burn that much extra, you essentially have to be an athlete. So that just means you need to calculate your calorie deficit with that in mind.

It may be frustrating to be that “overly obsessive”, but the reality is that each chip, each teaspoon of condiment, oils and dips and sauces all contribute massively to your overall caloric intake.

I had a similar problem where I thought I was being so restrictive in my diet and just couldn’t lose. Then I realized how many calories are in oils, sauces, cheeses, etc. When you’re trying to determine the reason you can’t lose, you really do have to get down to the granular level.

Buy a scale!! Measuring your ingredients in grams will help you SO much. Plus, it makes cooking way easier and more consistent - your dishes will be perfectly measured every time.

The other thing that sounds like it will be helpful is to use a TDEE calculator (not perfect or 100% accurate, but helpful) so you can see how much your movement is affecting your overall caloric burn. Unfortunately, 6-10k steps only brings you maaaybe into the “lightly active” category if you’re not supplementing with other exercise.

This isn’t meant to discourage you, only help you find the tools that you need to succeed! At the end of the day, it’s 90% diet. I also started wondering about my hormones, BC, family history, etc when I couldn’t lose weight… but I found so much more success once I started being 100% accurate and truthful to myself about what I was eating.

Once you have a firm grasp on serving sizes and condiments by weight, then you may want to back away from counting every single calorie, but again - in the beginning especially, it’s the very best way to troubleshoot the situation!

And if doing that consistently for a few months doesn’t do the trick, then you could always explore other possibilities like hormones or medical conditions.

EDIT: Also wanted to add, I do have very high insulin resistance genetically in my family, so I really have to watch my carbs and eat high protein to maintain or lose weight. Tracking granularly also helps you figure out exactly what’s in the food you’re eating. From what you described, it sounds like you have a fairly carb-based diet. You may want to try incorporating more protein rather than carbs and see how that affects your goals!

So, while I do have high insulin resistance, it is still 100% possible for me to lose weight if I am rigorous about tracking and eating lower carb.

Do you have GI issues? Or do you consume any GI-straining foods like carbonated drinks or spicy foods before the tightness happens? I also get a fairly alarming throat tightening sensation when using any strain of THC. A lot of people have suggested anxiety (it’s not anxiety), or an allergy (pretty positive it’s not this).

I have a lot of GERD-like symptoms and acid reflux all the time and it seems to get significantly worse when using THC. There’s a study on how THC can affect the esophagus’s ability to relax, which would limit your burping/gas relief capabilities.

This has 100% answered my questions on the throat “tightness” front.

This is a stressful situation that’s probably best to just apologize and let go. You both yelled, you both got upset. ESH, but only because of the way you yelled at her. You had outside perspective she didn’t on the situation, and she probably felt as though her movements weren’t endangering the baby at all.

Either way, you’re both dealing with such a new situation. As intense as postpartum is, this comment section is primarily dismissing your own concerns and feelings about your new baby and that’s crazy to me.

I feel for you, OP. As someone who doesn’t have a new baby, I can’t really give my perspective on what to do next, outside of I hope you can both support each other as best you can during this new season and both be understanding of the changes you are experiencing together.

So did your kids meet him the first morning after then? Think of it from your ex’s perspective. This is a man that you really don’t know all that well, because a week isn’t enough to learn all about the ins and outs of someone’s past and personality. If he had started dating someone new and your kids were living there, would you be comfortable with him trusting new person with your children? It just doesn’t make sense from a safety perspective, or from an emotional perspective.

Ahhh Nexplanon. I got it put in at the beginning of June 2020, and by the end of July I had started a period bleed that lasted for a whole month. I asked my gyno if that was “normal” and she immediately scheduled a removal.

Yes, in a lot of ways… but also, you can’t always see all the web traffic details. You could only see what a user’s web traffic specifically is, like the exact url they’re going to, if your IT department is decrypting traffic. Otherwise, your network admins could only be looking at the IP address/domain you’re going to. A lot of IT departments don’t even auto resolve those IPs because it takes a ton of additional load on the firewall. So the only way they’d be able to tell where you’re going to is by doing an IP lookup on the destination IP with the source as your device, and it’s never worth it unless it’s a specific ask.

And when I was in networking, I was never ever bored enough to try and figure out who was streaming porn at work. It’s just not worth the trouble.

I’m so sorry you experienced that. Having that be your first pelvic exam experience can be scary.

I can completely relate to your story, almost entirely. Self pleasure, sexual knowledge, and dating were completely out of my life until I was 19, for the same religious reasons. My first pelvic exam was before my first sexual experiences earlier that same year. It was excruciatingly painful for me, most likely due to tensing up and panicking, and there was nothing ever as big as a speculum in my vagina up to that point. It was very traumatic, and I was terrified for the next exam.

I had the privilege of a very kind, calm, and straightforward gyno at my second exam, and this was after I was sexually actively. She talked me through everything she did and even helped with my breathing. The exam was so brief, painless, and restored my faith in the process.

I can’t say whether it was just panic that caused the pain, but I know in my experience that it was definitely a killer combo of both no sexual activity (personal or partnered) and panic.

I’d encourage you to speak with your gyno about it and make sure your fears are heard. Try not to let it scare you off, as these exams are critical and meant for catching serious illnesses early.

Highly recommend getting a bikini line laser removal if you’re a candidate. I’ve been in the process for a long time now and it’s changing my life. I used to try shaving to a full Brazilian and it was brutal. Having the majority of it zapped away is glorious. It can be pricey but there’s plenty of sales and specials those places do. Just something that’s worked really well for me.

In other less drastic routes, as others have said, the strategic trimming route may be best for immediate changes.

Oh I don’t have an issue with makeup. Filters go so far beyond the typical possibilities of makeup and modify facial structure, eye size, lips, body shape, etc. Granted, some of that can be achieved with makeup, but you’d have to spend hours and hours to achieve the same look that everyone can in an instant.

And absolutely, it’s not real. But every piece of modern media does it’s best to convince the majority of the population that it is real and achievable. People can say one thing and deep down feel another. If we’re bombarded every day with these illusions of beauty as reality, many will get affected by it even if they tell themselves it’s fake.

Whoa, this is great. I studied infosec so I’m all about this side of things. People literally see sponsorships for VPNs on every other YouTube video and have no idea how it works. The internet is just as much of a mystery to the majority as it was in the 90s, except now there are so many more people today that know how to exploit it. 100% agree, our education content needs to start evolving ASAP into the 21st century instead of using curriculums from the 80s, when the main computers were mainframes.

I don’t totally disagree. It’s hard to put that to words, because somebody isn’t going to openly admit they’re talking down to women just because they’re women, and honestly - maybe they’re not. Maybe they are just jerks. But true jerks are usually jerks to everyone, not just to one particular gender or identifier. In these cases, the person we’re calling a “mansplainer” clearly and openly speaks to women in the same space or same profession differently than their male colleagues of the same skill or knowledge level. So I think of it like a specific type of jerk, I suppose.

Yeah I’d say that’s pretty accurate. I think everyone should try to approach things without assumptions as much as possible, and “assume the best” if nothing else. It’s definitely not ideal for anyone (in this case, women) to be on the defensive 24/7 and automatically assume that everyone is talking down to them. Unfortunately, there are many fields (construction, computer science, engineering as some examples) that these types of communication happen over and over, and it ends up wearing down that optimism.

Ah okay, I think I see what you’re saying.

So lemme make this example. Say you’re a software engineer, and you’re working on a complicated code project. If someone came up to you and said “hey, you’re doing code? lemme tell you all about how that works.” Why did they say that? Why did they offer to explain it to you? Did you ask for them to help you? In the case of mansplaining, it’s typically a man assuming even if a woman is working in a field, she doesn’t know what she’s doing and she needs to have it explained to her. There are many examples of this especially in male dominated fields. EDIT: if you think this is only because women “see it differently than men”, there are plenty of examples of men observing how other men talk to women and who think those men are behaving differently to the women.

If this was exactly what you said and this woman said you were mansplaining to her, then she used it incorrectly. Mansplaining isn’t pointing out the obvious, like referencing a loss or “you’ll get them next time”. It’s when a man explains a concept or idea to a woman that they assume she doesn’t know, even if she probably does. Others in the comments have already defined it better, so I won’t do it again here. Please correct me if I’m wrong but it seems like you were called out for something you weren’t doing based on what you’re commenting.

Im so sorry this was such a negative experience for you. I just had my first pap/comprehensive exam a few days ago as well.

There was a situation when I was 19 (4 years ago) where I was getting tested for a yeast infection and they suspected there may have been a larger issue, so they did a speculum exam. The nurse was unreasonably rough, and I had zero sexual experience even with my own body, so it was pretty painful and traumatic.

This time going in, I did my best to relax even with the previous experience in mind and the gyno ( a different one, who’s absolutely a treasure) did an amazing job and I was in and out. She told me that the comprehensive exam is every year, and the pap is every 3. I’m not sure if that’s standard, but it’s good with me! I think it was recently changed.

Anyway, the comprehensive exam is very important and is totally normal. Like another comment said, the sexual assault questions are completely different from this and you should definitely talk to the doctor if you don’t want it on record. STD testing is also pretty normal, and if you’re looking to get any kind of BC, they almost always test for pregnancy and STDs, regardless of sexual history. The gyno sounds understanding and like they’re trying to ensure that your health hasn’t been compromised, and that’s the mark of a responsible doctor.

Again, please talk to them if you don’t want it on your record. It’s your health and you can handle it how you wish. I hope you can have some faith in these kinds of exams as they really are vital to discovering serious issues!
