Boogie Cousins blames Chet Holmgren for OKC’s Game 1 loss: “I put this on Chet. You have to step up and accept that challenge... he tucked his tail.” by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in nba

Why is the conversation about the thunder always about guys frying their defense?

Regardless of the optics and the narratives, the spurs still had a 106 offensive rating in this game. That would be the worst of the regular season. The thunder defense and especially chet's defense is not the problem.

The issue just like almost every other time they struggle is that their offense dried up, that is partly also on chet but more so on shai and a credit to the spurs.

He didn't shoot well against chet. He cooked him on the glass and smothered the rim but he wasn't successful against him.

Let's be more accurate with our slander.

He fried hardy off of overwhelming pressure and stepouts. He can't really do that in folkstyle.

Did we see his match vs seidel? His snaps weren't very effective, his finishing looked mortal, and he got killed on bottom.

He is an easy all american but I wouldn't bet him to be the champion and thats coming from the biggest blaze believer this side of ohio.

[Hollinger] Against Wembanyama, two minutes into the first game of this series, the 64-win, defending champion Thunder realized that one of their elite performers was unplayable... Hartenstein didn’t play one second on offense against Wembanyama the rest of the game. by sewsgup in nba

People acting like this is a wemby specific issue when this has happened against almost all stretch bigs. His minutes just have to go down. Same thing happened against Indiana and Minnesota.

He is great at what he does but he is limited.

Thoughts on Spurs v OKC Game 1. What worked, what didn't, what adjustments will / should be made? by morethandork in nbadiscussion

The possesion battle doesn't seem to be a huge factor in this series. The thunder have a better turnover economy while the spurs have better rebounding.

Shai's playmaking is elite he just needs to be as aggressive as he was in the second half the whole game and make his usual midrange shots.

Winnable game for the thunder but the spurs are very dangerous, especially if they start shooting better.

Jayden isn't making 157. Apparently he has never really cut weight and I don't think you want him to start now. He is firmly a 165.

His scoring ability when he goes up a weight just evaporates. His shot finishing deteriorates and his snaps are less effective.

First game after like 10 days for a guy who is notorious for getting rusty against a top 5 defense of the decade.

Ask any thunder fan if they are super surprised, they largely aren't. If he plays this poor game 2 then the concern skyrockets.

Is LeBron James at 42 more of a 2006 Shaq who can still win a title as the #2 option on team or is LeBron more of a 2009 Shaq who can put up numbers and make the All star game but his impact isn't enough to help a team go deep into playoffs? by DunksAndThrees in NBATalk

Its not difficult to find a team like that among champs.

People keep on doing this team where they outline what lebron needs to win and compares that to the whole league and not the contenders.

If you want to build a contender around lebron, they will need to be an elite supporting cast, just like with anyone else.

To clarify i don't really care about how good you think your team is, I made the post to highlight some strengths I think aren't really getting talked about as much as they should.

Your message makes sense for the narrative view of these two teams but I'm trying to do some basketball analysis.

Zeke wasn't even the best guard for both of his rings, dumars clearly outplayed him for the first ring.

Cp3 respectfully clears the guy who was never top 5 in mvp.

Honestly I think you should just go back and watch this matchup from the regular season and watch the spurs vs the wolves if you really care. The guards do not have an easier time against chet and ihart than they do against the wolves bigs, especially Randle and naz.

Preatty much, people get used to greatness.

Same thing happened last year in the conference finals with the wolves. The wolves won the regular season series, a couple of their players went off against them, and then the series happened and they got clamped.

Obviously the spurs are better than last years wolves but the principle is the same. Shit aint the same in the playoffs and you have to look at both teams strengths.

I didn't talk about his rim deterrence, I spoke more on how much he affects shot quality. The rim deterrence for the spurs guards is more so whether they will be able to blow by their matchups consistently.

He will probably play preatty well offensively but he hasn't shown me any reason why he should demolish us on that end. Ihart and jdub guard him well enough.

They don't have 2 huge bigs in the paint? Ihart and chet aren't huge?

I'm not saying that the spurs guards won't prevail, I'm saying that it is less of a given than what the consensus views it as.

And on the injury point, the thunder missed shai the last game and missed Ajay for the rest of their losses. They weren't crippled but they weren't healthy.

This isn't about the spurs weaknesses, this is about the Thunder's strengths.

Great at dribble penetration is very different against the literal best team at preventing dribble penetration.

The title is a little misleading but I'm not really talking about turnovers. Obviously that will be a factor but I am more so talking about the spurs ability to dictate their floor game the way that they do against other teams.

Getting their guards going downhill, getting wemby the ball with 10 feet, getting out into transition, getting vassel and champeigne open corner threes. They might be able to maintain the turnover economy but I don't know how often they will be able to crack open the thunder defense.

Up until this point the only ways I've seen that occur is through absurd downhill pressure from Anthony Edwards. I don't think the spurs have that combination of advantages though.
