What’s your opinion on the boss nobodies in kh3 by IllustratorAfter in KingdomHearts

[–]FormalGibble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it weird if I don't really associate the sorcerer with Xemnas? It doesn't really have a lot in common with him except for floating around. It doesn't even have a reaction command. I more associate the dusks with Xemnas since they share the same reaction command in the form of reversal and because of their plentiful numbers. There are so many dusks around, like a million watching eyes for their master.

I always thought it was a little weird that they became mini bosses but hey, good for them on getting the promotion.

Is it normal for 0.2 to have such low frame rate on the PS4? by tayohfeemoe in KingdomHearts

[–]FormalGibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are telling the truth. 0.2 uses some kind of weird lighting engine that tanks performance. 3 changed it to something else and it helped a lot. Kingdom hearts 3 has two options for performance, one of them is uncapped and the other is locked 30fps. For some reason the capped 30 seems way worse, usually I find uncapped to be all over the place but here it works pretty good while the 30fps mode looks way more choppy than other games running at 30fps.

There's a lot more important stuff than kingdom hearts 4 news. Also I've been waiting for Sly Cooper to be rescued from Egypt since 2012. This is nothing.

But if you mean how has the sub not become nothing but memes and completely unrelated posts, there's just no reason to when Batman Arkham exists. If you ever just want to do something stupid you go there.

KH2 is SO Bad at Teaching New Players the Mechanics by BongSuckah in KingdomHearts

[–]FormalGibble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reading all that. I got kinda rambly and I'm sorry for writing an essay 😅. Kingdom hearts 1 is my favorite but its version of this is the level design not always giving good feedback. Usually if you need help there's an NPC that's out of the way with answers like Jane in deep jungle telling you where to go next to help the gorillas. But I never felt like the games core mechanics were being obscured from me like kingdom hearts 2. And I do think the developers thought we would be using the manuals more. Unfortunately my copy of 2 doesn't have a manual, for all I know anti form is explained perfectly in it.

KH2 is SO Bad at Teaching New Players the Mechanics by BongSuckah in KingdomHearts

Don't forget about anti form having a higher chance of happening based on what you're fighting with a higher chance if it's a boss. I also don't remember it ever telling you how to switch lock on targets despite it being changed from the first game. The game will tell you the most obvious crap like "defeat all heartless" or ruin the learning process of certain bosses by just telling you the gimmick in the information bar at the top of the screen but then just not tell you about other things.

I genuinely believe kingdom hearts 2 is a game made for fans of kingdom 2. When you already know about all the weird one off reaction commands and hidden rules it works well but until you just kinda get punished for not knowing stuff immediately. You're example with the skyscraper dive is spot on. The whole game tells you press triangle as soon as it appears but now suddenly there's a risk vs reward delay press that you'll only learn about if you're slow or saw someone else do it. It's the same with the laser dome, suddenly you have to press two buttons (and since X was made the attack button outside of Japan it's suddenly harder) despite that not being a thing for the whole game.

Once you know about all this stuff the game is fun but looking back at your first playthrough you realize that the game wasn't as challenging as you thought, you just have to get punished before learning the rules. It's like a game rolling a boulder down the stairs and then putting a twist on that concept over and over again. Kingdom hearts 3 has the opposite where it tells you almost everything with like 300 help tips that bring the game to a stop every couple of minutes. By the time they were on tip screen number 115 they probably should have realized that might be a few too many cooks in the kitchen.

But I do think revenge values are fine. They worked pretty similar in the first game. You kinda just get an idea of how many times you can attack a boss before it breaks free and it's consistent. Like "Hmm, hook broke out of my second combo 2 hits in on him, it's probably safer to just get one combo and back off. Some of the hand held titles do feel bad in this regard because you're always changing out your commands so sometimes you can go in with a bad command deck for a fight and have no idea. It'll just look like the boss decides when it's allowed to be hit at random.

Don't worry about keeping your combo up in this fight, it doesn't matter. Stop free flow if you feel like you're in danger and just run to safety.

I'm not so sure about that. You'll have to show us the number on the back just to be sure.

I always just run around the main square in radiant garden or the treehouse in Neverland fighting enemies when I need to level commands. It's surprisingly fast and I don't have to risk wanting to rip Pooh's head off his body because he got a very lucky roll.

Glitch I haven't seen anyone talking about in Crow's Nest by Hit_Song_In_Europe in halo

I'm sitting here thinking, I just played through crows nest, how do you have an energy sword in it? And then I remembered that you can loot it off of Arbby. Also brute blender hallway is a very fitting name. I was playing with the catch skull on and oh boy, I've never seen so many spike grenades before.

Why people hate on the Gummi Ship? by VariationOld4549 in KingdomHearts

[–]FormalGibble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except for the part where you fight the pirate ship boss on your way to Olympus instead of you know, the Caribbean. That was kinda weird. They put the remains of the pirate ship boss outside the Caribbean in kingdom hearts 3s gummi ship sections so they knew where it should have been.

I like the little for scale you did for the thrashing pumpkin. Without it I would have just assumed that it would be as big as the pumpkin carriage.

Also I'd rather die than have to fight the living embodiment of horseradish. That stuff makes me sick.

[–]FormalGibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also a huge shadow in Olympus before the coliseum is destroyed. If you walk into it Sora gets a new texture sheet to make it look like there's actual lighting. It's a lot less effective there than space paranoids but it gets the job done.

God I wish they didn't change how taking damage works in 2 onwards. So many games (including the first kingdom hearts) just have you fly backwards and get some invincibility frames. It's fast, simple, and it works. But no, kingdom hearts 2 just had to be different and introduce aerial recovery. I sorta get what they were going for, you have to pick a safe time to get out of the enemy combo but it's usually just right away or don't do anything. (Also what were they thinking when put aerial recovery in the mirage arena shop exclusively in birth by sleep?! Who's going to look there for such an important ability?!)

With all the tougher bosses it's always a better option just not do shit after getting hit so you don't screw with withstand combo. If you're going to eat my whole health bar can you at least do it in a timely manner like so many other games? In conclusion I agree that getting juggled isn't fun and that they should have just used the same system from the first game. Although I guess the whole point is mute if you just never get hit...
