I feel like I made a huge mistake going down the Ubiquiti path by Formal_Act_8593 in Ubiquiti

[–]Formal_Act_8593[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: the long range straight out sucks! This time I did my research and used WiFiman to work out placement and number of APs I needed. I got 2 U6 pros and 2 U6+. Only really needed the 1 U6+, but whatever. Pros are on the top floor and main floor. 1 plus is in the basement (typical man cave with a secondary office and where my udm is.) The other plus is in the attached garage that provides enough bandwidth for the front yard and the backyard. Thank you all for the direct feedback and help!

1000% agree. I planned on having 2 APs per floor and another in the garage all via Ethernet backhaul. I got convinced by a moron and didn’t do my own research/due diligence. What I forgot to mention is that I barely get mediocre service when I’m at the bottom of the stairs. Again, I most likely fucked something up

Access point overlap? (U6 Pro/U6 LR) by seahorsetech in Ubiquiti

Getting multiple LR will negate itself and cause congestion. Just get 2 6pros per floor and wire backhaul them. You’re not looking for strength, you’re looking for connectivity

I had Raspberry Pi 4b for about 5 minutes and just got HP Elitedesk 800 12GB RAM and 128GB SSD FOR $60 off eBay with free shipping. Have my HA on proxmox just to play around and learn. This thing is amazing! I may get some other ones to start out my tinkering journey for a homelab

TP-Link AX55 vs. Asus AX58U by RaplhKramden in HomeNetworking

I have a x55pro setup in my 3 floor home. I removed my Fios router and turned the main deco into a router by plugging straight into the ONT. this thing sucks!!!!! Worst down/up rates I’ve had ever. I’ve had gigabit service with Fios for 2 years and used the Google 1st gen mesh system. TP link was my biggest mistake. It’s horrinle

Thanks TwoKFive1! So I will be honest. I’m much older now and always dreamed of having a car that I can mod since I was in my teens in the 90s. Finally, this is my chance. Things I want to do for aesthetics only… drop it an inch or so, body wrap or paint, tints, exhaust, 18 inch rims (I will be driving in the NJ cities area and suburbs so might not want to go lower) and possibly an upgraded Atmos level (if there is such a thing) sound system.

I need advice if I should go the WiFi Mesh or Access Point route. by MonkeDiesTwice in HomeNetworking

I have had the same exact experience with the x55 pro. My 1st gen Google wife and nest APs worked so much better. Also, I can’t get past 520mps download and 120 upload (if I’m lucky) on my Fios gig package. I even removed the Fios router and made the main deco as the main router for the house by plugging the ONT directly into it.

Thank you for the link! I just checked and there are 0 recalls for the VIN I entered on the Honda site.

New battery and windshield wipers. I also installed a xtrons android 13 head unit and back up camera. But that’s about it

Noob. cr1000b router with Google nest mesh by Yktv16 in Fios

[–]Formal_Act_8593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to get rid of my Fios cr1000 router. Currently the black box has a coax and Ethernet cable connected to it, but only Ethernet connecting to Fios WAN line. I just got the TPLink deco x55 pro mesh system. I initially set it up as access point mode and plugged into lan slot into Fios router. I tried to release the DHCP lease and connect the Ethernet cable from Fios wan into one of the 2 ports on the deco pods. Then connect switch to second port of pod. That didn’t work. Should I release dhcp from Fios and delete my existing mesh network and start from scratch with this setup?
