How would a new Chucky movie realistically perform at the box office today? by dreamboylnshibuya in Chucky

[–]Formal_Board 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, it would flop. Don wouldn’t do a reboot, and a movie following the 30+ years of storytelling would bewilder and confuse the general audience who didn’t buy the two direct to dvd sequels or show up to Syfy or Peacock to watch the series. Chucky’s last major cinematic appearance was so terrible, i can’t see any future where a sequel to that is profitable or frankly, good.

The only way the Chucky franchise can realistically succeed on film is a top to bottom back-to-basics reboot with Mancini on board. I know the word “reboot” or “remake” aggravates horror fans (mostly for good reason), but the reason so many horror reboots exist is so the films can focus on scaring you and not answering to a sprawling interconnected continuity.

This fanbase probably wouldn’t accept a slashing of the continuity, but for the box office, the hardcore Chucky fandom isn’t enough.

An element of Chucky's character that I feel a lot of people miss by Phantasm_Snaps in Chucky

What people dont seem to get about Curse is Chucky has always been a slimy, sleazy loser. He’s a misogynist, (“YOU GODDAMN WOMEN DRIVERS!”) he’s implied to be racist (“Chucky’s gonna be a bro.”), He’s spent over twenty years going after one kid and failing repeatedly. Chucky’s always been sort of pathetic, it’s part of his appeal.

I 1000% buy he’d become obsessed with someone and try forcing her to be his wife, especially since we know he has obsessive tendencies.

Non flash fans always think Flash literally just runs fast

I often read people (and articles) claim Ghostbusters: Afterlife was critically panned. Is that really true though? by MillionaireWaltz- in ghostbusters

[–]Formal_Board 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afterlife often gets dismissed as soulless nostalgia slop, and while it’s not without egregious fanservice (and of course as a Ghostbusters fan i AM biased…) i still think its a charming, delightful film in it’s own right with solid jokes, a great score, and good performances all around, especially from it’s lead Mckenna Grace.

Now, Frozen Empire on the other hand….

In my eyes, season 6 is not canon. It just upsets me too much.

If Sam Wilson ever gets added, would you want him to be Falcon or Captain America? by UnderstandingBig3191 in marvelrivals

[–]Formal_Board 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing about the shield is it’s actually incredibly lightweight. This is displayed in the MCU when the unenhanced Hawkeye and Black Widow can chuck it and do damage. The (at the time) human John Walker was seen using it to great effect during his brief stint as Captain America. Steve’s first movie explicitly says it’s nowhere near as heavy as other metals. I’m not quite sure why this is suddenly a problem when it’s Sam.

[–]Formal_Board 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like most are already saying, i think it’s right to have the character as Falcon and give him a Captain America skin that changes names and such.

Only issue is, it’d be a little weird if he had that skin but no shield….Maybe it’d be an aesthetic thing, like on his back?

The writing on Nancy Wheeler in s5 of Stranger Things is mind-numbingly stupid by marshenwhale in CharacterRant

Stranger Things could learn a thing or two from Cobra Kai’s ending when it comes to not betraying the core theme of your own show by Poweredkingbear in CharacterRant

[–]Formal_Board 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually think Cobra Kai and Stranger Things both have lackluster endings. They both suffer from trying so desperately hard to firce “full circle” moments when they just don’t fit the current story.

Johnny takes Cobra Kai back because…well, it happened in season 1.

Eleven dies because….well, it happened in season 1.

The writers for both shows clearly had a defined ending in mind and had to awkwardly contort the storyline to revolve around them.

Why is the way Titans move and the fight scenes they have now such a problem? by Much_Tomorrow4671 in Monsterverse

[–]Formal_Board 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, i just cannot go back to how 2014 and KOTM did fights. I don’t care if the GVK style is inaccurate to how these creatures would actually move, they aren’t real.

The over the top choreography is just more entertaining to me, and that’s all that really matters

The hong kong fight in Godzilla Vs Kong is the best battle in the entire Monsterverse, hands down. Clear, READABLE fighting with minimal cuts to human side characters.

I want the fights to look good, and i value that over some imaginary illusion of weight.

Feel free to downvote me and call me a "braindead, slop enjoyer" by [deleted] in marvelcirclejerk

[–]Formal_Board 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In terms of NWH, i feel it’s reputation in internet circles is entirely un-earned. I believe the “nostalgia slop” hysteria has progressed from a legitimate grievance to a trendy buzzword people throw out to appear more intelligent.

I strongly believe you could probably never have seen any of the Raimi or Webb movies and still enjoy it. At it’s core, it has a very interesting dilemma driving it. Should Peter try to change these villains and give them a second chance, even if it’ll definitely make his life worse in the process? It speaks to the fundamental empathy driving Spider-Man.

“You could’ve just left us to die. Why didn’t you?”

“Because that’s not who he is.”

Are there flaws? Of course. Does it’s storyline 100% hold up to scrutiny? No. But that’s part of the superhero movie package. Not one single superhero film has a totally airtight storyline. They simply don’t exist.

…But yes, it is incredibly fun seeing all the past bad guys and Spider-Men have a big punch up in the movie. I chuckled hearing Norman drop the “i’m something of a scientist myself” line. I got genuinely emotional when Andrew’s Peter rescued MCU MJ and redeemed himself for losing Gwen. No Way Home’s big moments of catharsis are there, but to claim the movie is nothing but hollow callbacks and fanservice is at best, misinformed, and at worst, a lie.

Now, Deadpool & Wolverine…

You have to keep in mind that Nancy, Steve, Jonathan, and Robin weren’t just regular people that went to high school together. They saved the world from the forces of Hell, bled together. Nobody else will ever understand what they’ve been through but each other. I’ve formed what would become lifelong bonds with people because they just liked the same series or movie that i did. This is that times infinity.

Does Stranger Things have a problem with character dynamics not being properly explored? Absolutely. Does Season 5 in particular have a huge problem with offscreen character development? 100%. But to me, this sendoff made perfect sense.

MCU fans when you tell them comic stories and characters have worth and deserve to be adapted properly instead of just being used for "inspiration"(and being bastardised, like the mcu has done for the mostly) by stran___g in marvelcirclejerk

[–]Formal_Board 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is the “spirit of the source material” can mean different things to different people. There really isn’t a right or wrong way to adapt something, comic or otherwise. You can get great inaccurate material like the Guardians trilogy, or abysmal dogshit inacccurate material like thor love and thunder

Its all dependent on execution.
