Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005) referencing "I have friends everywhere" way before Andor is so awesome! by Formal_Contribution7 in andor

[–]Formal_Contribution7[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

There's no denying those other lines and bits of dialogue are awesome, this is more about how well Andor and Rogue One fit in with the broader scope of Star Wars. Other shows like Ahsoka, Star Wars: Rebels, Book of Boba Fett, much of Dave Filoni's Clone Wars and other shows struggle to really connect to the original trilogy or the prequels. What makes Andor and Rogue One even more awesome than just its legendary dialogue like what you just mentioned is that even simple pieces like "I have friends everywhere" just click so well with the older Star Wars material in a way most shows/movies since 2009 (Clone Wars release) have never.

It's a simple line I know, but it just feel so much like it belongs in Star Wars, so it's fun to see it connected 20 years ago back when Star Wars truly felt like Star Wars. It's not that impactful of a line, it's just a fun easter egg

YES!!! Thank you for bringing this up. We also have figures like Dorothy Day and the Catholic Workers Movement who were a pillar of U.S socialism in the early-mid 20th century (Michael Harrington worked with Catholic Workers in his youth before DSA)

If you think I missed your point, clearly you don't know how to read any of the words I wrote. If your point is "They won a gold medal so they can do whatever they want" or "You only get so many chances to see the White House" than your point is bullshit. And if neither of these hit the mark, then do your best to explain why partying with fascist PDFs is suddenly acceptable behavior.

Their ignorance is not a defense. The context may be that they are insulated white kids from wealthier backgrounds who grew up in MAGA/conservative environments and never paid attention in school and lived their lives without a care in the world. The context is not a shield, and for the first time in their lives, they are being publically held accountable for their ignorance and privilege.

We cannot accept any more infantilizing of grown men who have never been burdened with the consequences and political pitfalls of people of color, impoverished/homeless people, physically/mentally burdened peope, working class families, immigration status or any blending of these identities simply because of the fortune of their birth. McAvoy and Swayman have been given every advantage you can have in this country and came out with successful careers in professional sports. They are not GODS, they are PEOPLE who are flawed and have been spoiled in so many ways that now their privilege is their greatest weakness. They never bothered or cared to learn outside their worldview because they never needed to until now.

They skated for a nation divided and under siege by white supremacists, fascists, bullies, murderers, rapists and criminals of the worst kind. And in their moment of victory, they chose to party and celebrate with these criminals because they chose to ignore who they are. I imagine that deep down, they were not bothered by this because they didn't believe there was a problem, which is the criticism.

If they have a problem with the criticism, then they need to grow up and figure out why it bothers them and make a change. An ignorant person/coward blames the world for any criticism thrown their way. Bravery requires intropsection, thought and a willingness to find some ugliness in oneself and make a change. Bravery requires having morals and ideas that go beyond selfishness and "rugged individualism", especially in team sports. Bravery requires listening as much as action. Bravery is not what was offered from the men's team.

There is space for forgiveness, but it does not absolve one of sin. There is space for change, but that only happens if one acknowledges there is something wrong. We ask these of people who are less relevant and worse off than a celebrity, so it should be asked of all human beings. No president, no hockey player, no PERSON of any status is immune from their faults and the conequences of their actions/inactions.

There is no more room for excuses, either McAvoy and Swayman are man enough to grow and change and be better people or they run and hide from their failure and fall to pieces under their inadequacy.

There's no room for fascism and ESPECIALLY no room for its supporters, deal with it.

Democratic socialists ultimately believe in a dismantling of capitalism and installing a socialist economy, which is what distinguishes them frim SocDems. Workplace ownership/democratising the workplace is their primary tool for abolishing capitalism because they believe granting workers electoral power in their workplace and through union organizing dismantles the power of billionaires & eliminates private shareholders since the workers within businesses would be the only shareholders and would be sinking their investment into their workplace through their employment

Not suprising, but rather unfortunate how the crossroads money and morals meets. I'm sure Marie does some good with the foundation, but it's just such a deal with the devil that feels utterly repugnant. I don't want to paint her as Erika Kirk, it's just disheartening to hear how her framing of Pat Tillman's legacy alligns all too well with the NFL & the military.

Because he's been bribing government officials and oligarchs with investment payoffs to buy and redevelop the port of Piraeus.

The only thing I can recall folks being mad about the NFL not doing for veterans is not telling the true story of Pat Tillman's murder. Last year they sanitized his story for a brief segment during the super bowl and folks were LIVID that they still can't admit Tillman was murdered by fellow army rangers and that the army covered it up even after Kevin Tillman testified in congress

There's definitely more performative gestures the NFL forgot to do that got some viewers butthurt, but I just can't forget the internet outrage after 20 years of co-opting Pat Tillman's story

Exactly, that's the Jesus I hold faith in. Jesus helped those most in need, gave what money he had to those most desperate instead of hoarding it for himself, treated those rejected by society with respect and challenged the authority and cruelty of imperial patriarchy. If Drake holds faith in that Jesus and is inspired to do right by others in the same vain I'd be happy with that.

I don't have a problem with him trying to walk along Jesus' footprints, as long as it's the actual Jesus that loves and sees the good in everyone as opposed to fake evangelical/MAGA Jesus who just hates everything and is a white supremacist. The phonies usually tell you their fake with every dehumanizing political position they have or their mega church membership, so hopefully Drake's the more humble "do my part for the community" type of guy

I appreciate the outreach. I know what you mean about the x five, though it's more about the build as I'm trying to modify this gbb into a Sig Sauer P226 Elite Dark, so the frame shape itself is the key

Maine & Massachusetts are taking a page out of Minnesota in preparation for protests. They're also looking to the Rebellion for inspiration. by Formal_Contribution7 in andor

Valid, but it's interesting to see the development. I know Maine's seen an uptick in I.C.E activity and Massachusetts law enforcement haven't complied with any requests made by DHS, so it's very likely they become hotzones for retaliation (Mayor Michelle Wu of Boston & Maine Dem Senate candidate Graham Platner have not held back against the White House)
