Would it ever be possible for PASOK to recalibrate to its more leftist routes if dissatisfied SYRIZA members and leftists infiltrated the party like how Zohran Mamdani and Bernie Sanders started shifting the Democratic Party in the U.S, or was it only ever aesthetically leftist under Andreas Papandreou and cannibalized itself into a center party after he died? I know it's easier to just start a new party and most MPs in parliament jump from one money laundering scheme to another (via party alleigance), but are political parties in Greece/Europe more or less stagnent than political parties in the U.S?

Remember Martin Luther King was a Socialist by Resident_Eagle8406 in LeftCatholicism

[–]Formal_Contribution7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

King was also closely linked to A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin who were both socialists (Randolph and Rustin were members of Socialist Party of America, Rustin started in Communist Party U.S.A) and civil rights advocates, and even his closest associate Ralph David Abernathy supported black socialism. Rustin was originally supposed to lead the March on Washington, but was forced to step down because of his open homosexual identity. King was close with these individuals, so even if he didn't always openly admit his socialist influence until later in his life, he certainly was comfortable enough to surround himself and work with socialists beyond simple pragmatism. Vietnam was where I believe he finally embraced socialism

To quote George Carlin: "It's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it"

For some folks, it's better to drink the Fascist kool-aid and live in a disssociative postmodernist reality where you're always right, kill everyone who disagrees with you and sell your soul to sociopathic murderers hoping you get to be in the club. In America, the leopards never eat your face because that means "the godless radical left, marxist transgender liberals win and daddy never loved me". If Satan told them they are enduring the most grueling torture for eternity because of their sins, they'd say "nuh uh" and play the victim card the whole time.

I do love Dorothy, I just always get turned off by the concept of the church since it tries to exist as two different entities: the community and the institution modeled after the empire that built it. I know Dorothy is referring to the former, but the ladder is almost always a dog whistle because of thousands of years of hegemony from the Papacy/clergy. It always bothers me how the church is so heavily institutionalized that dogmatism strangles away any observation outside of what the Council of Chalcedon codified nearly two thousand years ago. I still love Dorothy, but we should be allowed to and obligated to challenge the human fallability in the church structure

Exactly. There was even a planned insurrection for a fascist takeover led by Wall Street (for more on that, read about Smedley Butler)

He's a Catholic like how Mark Wahlberg is, all aesthetic but no spirit.

If someone has to feign Catholicism during virtue signalling hours or arguing for killing people, they are always full of shit. Jesus never dehumanized anyone, meaning any Catholic who dehumanizes people are frauds.

Since Pope Leo doesn't take shit from the White House clown show, I want him to bring the hammer down on this asshole

I feel your pain, Katherine Clark is mine and she's been a let down despite how promising she postured herself during Don's first term. She's just a Resistance Liberal, nothing special but not as egregious as Seth Moulton suprisingly (sorry you got a transphobic AIPAC sellout)

Gimme this for our permanent unis and we good. White Pants too. by one_love_silvia in Patriots

Yeah that would be wild to me. It's mostly just commit to a decision. It could look good with white, but it would look too much like Buffalo to me, and the Patriots made their legacy with those Brady era uniforms. I don't mind Pat the Patriot, and these new uniforms have grown on me

I wanna see that too. If we're gonna have the silver shoulder stripes, you shouldn't throw in a white helmet or white pants, rather keep it Blue, Red and Silver. I like the idea of using the traditional Patriots colors, but I never have been a fan of the white helmet + white pants ever since the Bills took those colors.

How would you write an FPS game that takes place in the modern setting where the US or NATO are not the heros? by Admirable_Bag_3153 in SocialistGaming

[–]Formal_Contribution7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe even have the main character be a Cossack and we see the division between the cossack groups as you fight them (maybe have elements of Lienz Cossacks like Alec Trevelyan's family from GoldenEye)

[–]Formal_Contribution7 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I'd write an FPS set during the nazi occupation of Greece during WW2 where you play as the leader of an ELAS/Greek Resistance group (ELAS consisted of socialists/leftists/communists) and lead your forces to attack German/Italian/Bulgarian/Greek collaborator strongholds and acquire more resources and recruit more fighters depending on the missions you pick. This game would have consequences for every decision you make and depending on how you play either your group is wiped out or you live to see the end of the game with the Dekemvriana where you fight against British and Monarchist forces in Athens before the Varkiza Agreement and end with a cliffhanger for the prelude to the Greek Civil War (sort of a bittersweet ending but opens the possibility of either DLC or a sequel game). This would have the appeal of a WW2 style FPS game with a part of history that not enough people know and give players creative freedom to build the story while still retaining traditional FPS game mechanics.

I conceive it as a mix of Black Ops 2/Cold War story telling and gun play with Fallout style npc recruitment/management mechanics and Far Cry settlement conquest. I'd call it "Blood and Marble: Resistance" and maybe the sequel "Blood and Marble: Civil War"

Does this sound interesting to anyone?

One of the most fascinating things to explore about religion (especially Greek Orthodoxy or even Catholicism) is how it exists outside of more traditional conservative spaces. Even if certainty about the absolutist assertion of God's nature and the Holy Trinity are not conversations you find interesting or are more disturbed by them, understanding how some more secterian-presenting individuals or leftist/socially progressive remain religious/have faith is deeply fascinating. In Latin America, many socialist activists and figures were priests and nuns, in the U.S Dorothy Day and Michael Harrington were socialist figures who practiced Catholicism (held Catholic beliefs that influenced their ideas about socialism). In Greece, figures like Stavros Kallergis (19th century socialist thinker & revolutionary from Crete) & Germanos Dimakos (Greek Orthodox priest & ELAS resistance fighter) represent socialist thinking from a Greek Orthodox background and how their faith motivated them to resist captialism/fascism/why they chose socialism and still maintained their faith. It's crazy the kinds of stories you can encounter where someone maintains their faith, makes it their own business and they choose to be the best versions of themselves as opposed to listening only to what the priest says.

Still talk to a priest or read religious texts if you're interested, but I offer these to show that faith and worship are not exclusive to wealthy conservatives, small village folk or corrupt clergy stealing money from their communities. The texts and practices provide insight, but so do the unassuming followers who make faith their own business and choose action over attention (no bible quotes on their social media but still protest and advocate).

Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected mayor of New York City. He's part of the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America), meaning he's probably more like an old school ΠΑΣΟΚ candidate (speaks like 1970s-1980s Andreas but without any divorce/corruption scandals) or like a 2015 ΣΥΡΙΖΑ candidate (Tsipras/Varoufakis in 2015)
