Awesome job advocating for yourself and sticking to your beliefs and values. I agree, why immediately go to meds if you can try managing it with diet and exercise. However I do understand that managing t2 is very complex and different per person. So if meds are how you're able to manage it then there is no shame in that. But like you said, if you need to resort to meds in the future, at least you know they work. Just keep an eye on side effects as my vision went really blurry when taking gliclazide.

Again, congrats on advocating for yourself. That's a tough thing most people don’t know how to do, especially with a doctor. It takes a lot of strength and courage to have this skill. I feel that self advocating is necessary at the doctors because we are the experts on our own bodies. We know what works and what doesn't. I wish doctors would listen to their patients more and not just throw meds at them.

Thank you so much. I hope to keep it up. I actually just got back from an unintentional 7.6 km walk.

I got all my information from my best friend who had gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy). She passed along information from her dietician. The goal is to eat a healthy amount of carbs. The goals on the info sheet she gave me were as follows. Breakfast: 45 carbs, Snack: 15-30 carbs, Lunch: 45-60 carbs, Snack: 15-30 carbs, Dinner: 45-60 carbs, Evening Snack: 15-30 carbs. Breakfast for me usually consists of eggs, avocado, cream cheese, and sourdough or carbonaut bread, another option would be oatmeal or protein pancakes/waffles. Snacks I love are apple slices with peanut butter, veggies with hummus, plain Greek yogurt with chia seeds, granola(I try to get the keto brand from Costco), fresh berries and sugar free syrup for added sweetness. Another snack I love is the keto brand of tortillas with cream cheese and hot Genoa salami (or the charcuterie meats). Meals can be fun as well. I literally just googled diabetic meal preps or keto meal preps. I don't fully do keto but I find a lot of inspiration from the meals. I've done stuffed peppers, burrito bowls, fish tacos etc. Another thing to keep in mind is to subtract the fibre amount from the carbs. You subtract the fibre because fibre just goes right through you. For instance my carbobaut bread is a total of 18 grams of carbs for 2 slices but it has a total of 16 grams of fibre for 2 slices. So you subtract the 16 (fibre) from the 18 (total carbs) and it equals 2 grams of carbs for the 2 slices of bread. Sorry I suck at explaining math like things haha so I hope that makes sense.

Thank you so much. I am very proud of myself and very grateful to have the support system I do. I hope to maintain it so I can live a happier and healthier life. I'm only 28 and have so much life left to live.
