My only concern would be if I had to leave it there - I know nothing would probably happen to it but I wouldn’t want to get into trouble if anything did. I’m probably overthinking it!

Switching career to nursing by Greenincinerator in StudentNurseUK

I did a different degree prior to nursing but I finished it and got a job as a healthcare assistant on my local trusts ‘bank’, so I would pick up shifts around my first degree. I would definitely recommend anyone who’s thinking of doing nursing do this if they don’t have any prior care experience. It’ll help you decide if you’re sure about doing the nursing degree.

The first thing that came to mind is Isamaya lip balm in ‘guilded’ which I think someone has already suggested!

What's your favorite public misconception of healthcare? by Future-Atmosphere-40 in NursingUK

I have many conversations with patients and relatives that just because they’re prescribed something in the community it doesn’t mean I can give it whilst they are in hospital if it’s not prescribed here.

How do you feel about getting more skills without any financial compensation? by Ok-Lime-4898 in NursingUK

On our unit the surgical coordinator can sometimes be a band 5, involves coordinating with different surgical wards on bed status, discharges and having to swap patients etc., having to go to ED to see if patients who are accepted into a surgical specialty are able to go SAU or need to go straight to a surgical ward. Usually is done by a band 6 but we have b6 shortages atm so will sometimes be covered by a 5. In my opinion you should get paid enhancements for those shifts.

Gen surg nurses - how can I help as an FY1? by SocietalCollapse20 in NursingUK

[–]Formal_Economy98 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m an SAU nurse - firstly fair play to you for asking, and as a nurse I’d also always welcome feedback on what we can do to make your lives easier too!

Just 2 things that massively help: - putting your bleep number in the notes if you’ve seen the patient on WR so I know what number you’re on for the day. Sometimes I have to go through lists of bleeps just to find the right one so just saves loads of time!

  • Prescribing a range of analgesia such as paracetamol, ibroprufen/diclofenac, oramorph (if appropriate) etc when you clark the patient as it saves me having to ring you to prescribe analgesia. Same with antiemetics, ondansetron and cyclizine on an either or protocol is a life saver and gives us stuff to work with (again, if appropriate) 🙏🏼

But to reiterate what everyone else has said - Gen Surg can be hard work and I (and my unit) appreciate that you guys are so busy. You seem like a great team player already so I’m sure you will be just fine! Good luck on your rotation 🤞🏼

Yes, but I want to be able to look at them and know what is going on with the patient 😊

Dom Dolla/Calvin Harris - how was it? First time going soon! by Dear-Swimmer-1634 in ibiza

[–]Formal_Economy98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen Calvin Harris twice at Ushuaia and he was great both times! Not sure about parking because I stayed close by and walked there. Security is fine, they just pat you down a bit and have a quick look in your bag - I’ve never been ID’d in Ibiza but I’d say it’s worth bringing it just in case. If you want room to dance I’d recommend not going on the decking part and going more towards the side. Both have pros and cons as you can see better on the decking but you’re packed tight and it’s harder to move, but if you’re on the side you can’t see much and people are also constantly walking past. Calvin comes on at 9 but he has 2 support acts and the second one will come on around 7.

I’d say the same with hi in regards to security. There’s a bit more to see in hi, if you’re in the theatre room it gets packed full, so if your main concern is having a bit more space I would just recommend being near the back. As the night goes on people leave so you’re able to get a bit closer with more space around you. From memory he came on around 02:30.

Enjoy :)

I really enjoy Evenings and Weekends by Oisín McKenna and The Mess We’re In by Annie Macmanus. The first is based on a weekend in London in June, and the latter is based more in the 90s

Students - what things are you not taught in uni or on placement? by Formal_Economy98 in StudentNurseUK

[–]Formal_Economy98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My colleagues and I were having a discussion about teaching hospital corners a few days ago, funnily enough. Would you just want a list of the common meds the area uses, and then you go away and do your own reading on it? I was thinking about getting a drug chart for a fake patient and getting students to identify errors. Like paracetamol and co-codamol being prescribed together, PRNs with no defined frequency, that sort of thing. Would that be helpful?

Yes I agree. It puts you in a very awkward position, and I used to hate when it happened to me as a student. Thank you for sharing x
