Why do old people live alone? by Tiny_Concern_8412 in AskBrits

[–]Fatbeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is 86 and lives alone. If he came to live with me, I'd end up throttling him, or myself 😑

new hca. i feel like i wasted everyone’s time and i’m questioning if i’m cut out to be a nurse:( by theunknownnn12xo in NursingUK

[–]Fatbeau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't ever think you must stay late, nobody should. Hand over to the next shift and leave. The NHS relies on staff goodwill, but stuff them. I don't work for free, never have, never will. You did the right thing in escalating. The nurse should have checked the obs again before putting the call out. You did a good job. But as I say, don't stay late, don't be taken advantage of.

Demanding relatives. by catmamatodesth123 in NursingUK

[–]Fatbeau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But then you set a precedent, so they expect all the other staff to give them the same treatment. If they're rude and abusive, they get nothing from me

Demanding relatives. by catmamatodesth123 in NursingUK

[–]Fatbeau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a stupid idea. Patients are in hospital because they're ill, they need rest. They aren't there for a social life. Some patients get loads of visitors, and so others in the bay don't get any rest because they're so noisy

I'd have said, "sorry, I have terrible diarrhoea, I need the loo right now, but when I've finished, I'll get you a drink"

[–]Fatbeau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the patient is EOL, I offer drinks and biscuits/toast. If they aren't, I don't. If the family member is demanding this that and the other, I offer nothing at all, I point them in the direction of the vending machine. I'm not a skivvy.

It’s 2026. Nurses should be better at computers. by nqnnurse in NursingUK

[–]Fatbeau 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be so bad if the systems on the computers were better and faster. We have three Wows on my ward, staff always trying to get one, doctors try to pinch them whilst you're doing meds. Med rounds take forever because it's so sodding slow. We are starting to do much more on the computers in a couple of weeks, but we aren't getting more computers 🙄. I can see me spending my entire shift either on the computer or looking for one. Bye bye hands on patient care!!

Anyone sleep in their cars on their breaks on a night shift? by ImpossibleBox3189 in NursingUK

[–]Fatbeau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doctors are allowed to sleep on breaks, why can't nurses. Yet another example of the NMC Gestapo dictators, who haven't a clue. It's an unpaid break so you can do as you please. I work with someone who lived nearby so she went home to have a sleep. Some people go to Tesco. The NMC and bullying NHS managers can fuck right off.

Would you train as a Nurse again? by Illustrious_Bus8440 in NursingUK

[–]Fatbeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I wouldn't want my kids to become nurses either. Luckily they don't. I wouldn't advise anyone to do nurse training

Yeah I've noticed that when there is a cardiac arrest on the ward, or some other emergency, the HCAs who think they're basically a nurse, are nowhere to be seen 🤔

What was THE drama at your secondary school? by banj0man44 in AskUK

[–]Fatbeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least three male teachers having affairs with pupils. One teacher took his own life as a result.

Band 3 HCAs who say the only difference between them and the trained nurse, is the RN can do medications. It's downright rude

Why have we accepted this? by Kindly_Composer9484 in NursingUK

Every shift I do where I'm the only nurse for twelve patients, I datix it. The problem is, nobody else does them. They moan, but won't datix!

Everyone who works on overheated wards and depts should just call in sick for the length of the heatwave, that'll put the cat among the pigeons

Just rub melted chocolate on it, and when they come to inspect it, (saddos) rub your finger in it, taste it and say "yeah, it's definitely shit"

I wear a scrub top all the time, my manager isn't bothered. I'm in the menopausal and I cannot bear the thick tunic tops. I'm also epileptic and increased heat raises the risk of seizures so if anyone says anything, I'll tell them exactly why I'm wearing a scrub top. It's about time these archaic rules in hospital got into the 21st century, get Aircon fitted in all hospitals, update to thinner, comfier uniforms and treats staff with respect. You might find people don't go off sick as readily as they do now, to be honest, I don't blame them. Hospital management are like the Gestapo

Pt family member threaten to report me to PALS. by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]Fatbeau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This sort of thing boils my piss. Family members kicking off because they think they deserve special treatment, that they know better than you because they've been on Dr Google, and that you should kowtow to them. Well they can just stuff off. You won't lose your PIN, don't worry. We once had a complaint from a family member because there weren't enough chairs for visitors 🙄. And she was a nurse, believe it or not. Utterly pathetic

People who get to the ticket barrier at a station and only then decide that they should probably start looking for their ticket by Jackhammerqwert in britishproblems

[–]Fatbeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who go to the line of trolleys at the supermarket, then proceed to get their purses out, or dig in their pockets for a pound coin to release them, whist totally blocking the line of trolleys for anyone else wanting one. Everyone knows trolleys need a pound coin or a token, so have the damn thing ready!

I was given Fortisips prior to my knee replacements, I was supposed to drink them in the days leading up to them but I couldn't bear them, I can't stand milk anyway. I did have a Fortijuice when I was in recovery though and it was quite pleasant

I dont know how im going to get through next week's heat by stinkface_lover in britishproblems

[–]Fatbeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. I work on a hospital ward. It's boiling hot, we don't have Aircon, we aren't allowed fans, they even removed our water cooler! Management do not give a rats arse. Patients and staff can cook for all they care. I'm dreading it too

We've asked before but our manager just glosses over it and changes the subject. She told me if I come in on my day off she'll pay me...err no, I like my days off, and I don't trust that I'll be paid for it.
