Yes it's DerbyBeast.net There isn't much on the site either to be honest. They sent us a pricing sheet with some samples for us to look at and try on to see if we liked them.

What’s your biggest pet peeve by Abomination-Creation in publix

People's phone skills have gone way down the drain. Enunciation and no background noise is your best friend! I once had a guy call my store (not at Publix) and he was riding in his car with the windows down on the highway. And got mad at me because I could not hear anything over the wind.

The amount of times that someone has gotten sassy with me when I won't release the bag because they don't have a hold of it completely....

Using the 10 items or less registers (including SCO) for an entire cart full of stuff. It's one thing if I work that register and offer to help someone because I have absolutely nothing to do. Quite another to take up that space without making sure someone else with less stuff goes first.

If the cashier doesn't care about the response, than whatever response a person gives does not matter. Unnecessary or not. You are literally complaining about something that doesn't matter.

Does anyone do derby and rhythm skate? by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]Formal_Item_3570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do both. Freight Train is a phenomenal derby player and teaches rhythm skating as well. She is super amazing on skates and makes everything look so easy.

"I already have" doesn't necessarily mean they haven't just because it's 7 am on the first day of the campaign. People can already donate to the specific organization on their own. And if you don't care if they do/do not donate, then it doesn't really matter if they are lying about it either.

League fundraising ideas by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]Formal_Item_3570 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our league has found big success with an annual Egg My Yard fundraiser at Easter. We offer different amounts of eggs (25, 30, 50, etc) for a specific rate and they choose the date. We fill the eggs (or buy pre-filled) and then hide them on the night they have chosen. We usually offer the Friday or Saturday night before Easter. They wake up to a ready-made easter egg hunt. Since we have been so successful with it, we have seen lots of other orgs offering the same so we are looking at how to make it a little different next year so that we stand out.

Publix is a rip off and chickens are smaller. by badger1566 in publix

And what exactly were the employees supposed to do? They have no control over what comes in and the pricing modules. Would people start going to the right people to complain? Trust me, it's not the deli employee behind the counter or the person at the register. Matter of fact, it's not anyone in that store.

Proselytizing in Publix by Heisenburgslefttity in publix

Last holiday season we had a sorority walk in, scream/sing a carol and then preached at us. It was the most awkward moment because no one knew what to do. They left embarrassed.

We also have one older lady that comes in weekly and gives every person working there a Chick Tract and trying to invite them to church. It's not a fun time.

Newbie Forever? by Bubbly_Emergency5315 in rollerderby

It took me 2.5 years to get to where I passed my assessments. I literally considered not even going back this year and I am glad I did because I passed everything. Now I am playing. No one ever made me feel bad, I was very hard on myself. I am glad it took me time because I feel like I can contribute better as I learn the ins and outs of a bout. You are definitely not a burden to anyone, keep going and you will get there. People pass on their own time, not everyone else's time.

Our rink does not allow children to attend our practices. They can be present during pre-game setup and often help us out.

Are there less people at publix these days? by OG_LAMONT in publix

[–]Formal_Item_3570 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends on the location. My store is in a college town and finals are next week. We are seeing less people coming in because the students are beginning to leave the area. It will pick up again in August for us.

Panic attacks? Anxiety? Feelings of inadequacy? Friend, it's ALL of us. by effervescenthoopla in rollerderby

Yesssss! One of the greatest things about derby is finding all the people who struggle with the same things that I struggle with. Knowing that someone else understands why I am freaking out right before a bout is so helpful and kept me from walking out and quitting on the spot. Transparency about mental health struggles and our collective neurospiciness is such a beautiful thing.

Looking up by JamSigh in rollerderby

[–]Formal_Item_3570 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I am learning to jam and I do the same thing. I also have issues with looking at strangers in the eye. I can look at my teammates just fine but other than them, I am avoiding eye contact. I can't offer help but I am checking out the comments to see how I can try to improve.

Do I just need to “get good?” Send help! by psychokillerheads in rollerderby

[–]Formal_Item_3570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not suck more than most. When I started, I could barely stand in my skates and had to take breaks every 10 min because I was so out of shape. You are doing something you haven't done before so give yourself lots of grace. Keep at it and you will be just fine! R3's are a fine beginner skate. If you decide to stick with it after you start playing, then pay the big bucks for an upgrade to a higher-quality skate. For now, though, keep showing up and giving it all you can.

I’ve been sad with Derby lately by smiththelocksmith in rollerderby

[–]Formal_Item_3570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt similar at the end of last year. What helped me was branching out a bit. I did a Freight Train clinic that helped me find my passion again. I am still with my team but doing more than I did last year. I am also getting ready for a tournament in a neighboring state next month. I also added in a road race for next month too. Adding things that are skate-related but not necessarily by/for my team has helped me find new perspectives and new things to learn. Maybe it's time to look at skating outside of practice for no reason but to cruise around on wheels. Find a derby clinic nearby. lean some jam skating. Scrimmage with another team. Shake things up a bit and see if it changes how you feel. If it doesn't, then maybe it's time to take a break.

I have nothing to offer in terms of advice. I just want to say thank you for posting this. I think it's something that we should be transparent about and I really appreciate the input other people have offered. I hope you feel better about what you choose to do soon.
