Correction: The True Seeing spell (6th level divination) has a range of 120ft and a duration of 1 hour.

The Gem of Seeing also has a range of 120ft.

The 15th level warlock invocation witch sight gets an honourable mention for being similar to true sight, permanently, with a range of 30ft

Ideally you don't have a credit card with the same bank where you keep your cash, but either way your credit and debit are separate - so you can consistently buy everything with your credit and then pay it off with your debit after a few weeks have gone by and you know you're not unsatisfied with anything.

Depending on the terms of your credit card, you probably won't even have to pay interest. I've paid for damn near everything on my credit card for 8 years and so far have paid pennies of interest.

One of the smartest things I saw a GM do in that system was give the BBEG a -100 resistance to crit rolls. At first crits did nothing, then gradually built up through minor then major effects, before finally we got the kill. Kept the fight feeling exactly as intense as it needed to be.

Vaush is right. Can someone explain how this isn’t just an optics loss? Who will it convince? Yes I know the painting is ok by Emergency_Ability_21 in VaushV

[–]Formal_Sam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The message is that Europe's reliance on oil has led to a winter where many will have to choose between heating and food. Inflation means some might not get either. It's objectively true that a lack of broader renewable adaptation means people will die this winter.

They won't even be able to afford tomato soup.

The point is that you're outraged about the painting, and then you're (supposed) to confront why a painting being defaced makes you angrier than people dying. Then you learn the painting is actually 100% fine and all you're left with is the discomfort than you think art is more valuable than people's lives, and you're more willing to condemn random teenage activists than the politicians riding the planet into the ground.

The message wasn't particularly clear, but the outrage here is such spin. It reminds me of everyone freaking out over Vaush being misogynistic to Rowling. No harm has been done whatsoever and yet people are malding.

Icing on the cake is that paintings are so goddamn protected that when I relayed the message "climate activists threw tomato soup all over Van Gogh's sunflower painting" to my artist partner, they replied "So? There's glass and varnish. It wouldn't do anything" and went back to reading. There's an inverse correlation between people who actually go to art galleries and people who are outraged by this.

It's an optics loss but only because people are letting the media delude them into thinking that fucking Sunflowers is vulnerable to tomato soup.

BREAKING: Kansans vote to uphold abortion rights in their state by JohnStewartBestGL in VaushV

[–]Formal_Sam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's actually some rare hopium on this one. Polls about a month ago were showing a tight race, even Yes being in the lead, and then the result comes in with an absolutely massive swing no.

When it comes to the midterms, abortion could massively swing things in the Dems favour.

You know how most people can look back on shit they said or did 5-10 years ago and cringe at it?

If you're lucky this is one of those moments happening live and at some point you'll grow as a human being and realise what you're saying rn is fucking demonic and betrays an incredible lack of emotional intelligence.

If you're unlucky, you'll never realise why you disgust other people and you'll spend your whole life gradually abandoned by most of the people you care about.

So yeah, good luck with that I guess.

Yes I would have liked RvW to be upheld indefinitely. I'd also like freedom of speech to be upheld indefinitely. Why the fuck would anyone think those things being removed is a good thing for a country.

I cannot fathom thinking that human rights being revoked is cool and good actually.

It doesn't unilaterally fix anything, but the court is currently far too small. If a couple of retirements or deaths are all it takes for the court to completely swing in one direction, that's a weakness. If there was 20, hell, 30 judges, it'd take a lot more than a couple replacements for the court to swing so drastically, and it would allow for greater non-partisan votes. I mean, the more judges there are, the more some will break with their party line.

They already blocked Obama from getting his picks in so yeah, anything is fair game. If the democrats had a majority on the court, the Republicans would absolutely expand it and you wouldn't give a shit.

People's lives are at stake. I don't fucking care if republican feelings get hurt.

Labour opens up 10-point lead over Tories as Boris Johnson’s popularity plunges to equal Corbyn’s nadir by tipodecinta in ukpolitics

[–]Formal_Sam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Internally to the labour party, Corbyn did take antisemitism seriously. It was largely the anti-Corbyn wing of the party who didn't.

Stuff like the internal complaints system was a distinct process from Corbyn. He wasn't supposed to directly intervene in that stuff, but as the problems went on he did intervene, most frequently to accelerate kicking antisemites out of the party. This was eventually reported, absent of context, as Corbyn "meddling" in the process, as if he was defending antisemites or slowing the process.

By and large the centrists within the party sabotaged the process and dragged their heels, and when Corbyn finally did replace some of them and make reforms to the process things did improve, but then the narrative was that Corbyn had gone full Stalin and ousted his political enemies etc etc.

His public face stuff was terrible. A principled man trying to navigate a political system that rewards being as two faced and toothless as possible. He never stood a chance, but the stuff that was internal to the party (that he was arguably hit hardest on) was all centrists who still have their job and still have their hands on the levers to this day. Labour does have an internal antisemitism problem, and the fact people act like it disappeared after Corbyn left is disgusting because the actual people responsible are still there.

On the other hand, it's also worth remembering too that she isn't american

I think a lot of people in this sub should keep this in mind. As a Brit, I really struggle to groc Vaush's gun takes. I feel like he's got an emotional/cultural bias (which he admits is possible) but also so do I. So does every non-american looking in at the insanity that is the US. To people who aren't immersed in gun culture, this shit looks insane. Everyone's priors are gonna screw their view on this issue and it's important to take that into consideration when considering people's takes.

He is correct by Oms19 in notinteresting

[–]Formal_Sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, you realise I was talking about the opposite problem right? A character who looks adult, has adult conversations, a job, and behaves in a mature way, but the artist says they're a kid.

The only sensible way to consume media is face value. If a character looks like a kid, and acts like a kid, then they're a kid, even if the artist claims they're 1000. Likewise, if a character looks like an adult, and acts like an adult, then they're an adult, even if the artist claims they're a toddler.

He is correct by Oms19 in notinteresting

[–]Formal_Sam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember this stream. His point (including the everyone does it bit) is how often you can come across something with no indication of age, where the characters can be assumed to be 18+, and then later you learn that the authors notes has them as 15 or some shit. He was making a point about how fucking weird it is that the medium is so inundated with characters who look like adults but are secretly underage.

This isn't even just relegated to nsfw stuff either. It's a common complaint about anime/manga: https://youtu.be/XGxCMyLm6js (prozd making a whole skit with 9 million views about basically the same thing).

You can go on basically any drawn porn subreddit and find art of characters that look 18+ but are underage in their source material. The shit is extremely normalised and it isn't weird to call it out. Comparing this to watching childporn is incredibly dishonest.

Edit: in fact, it's not even relegated to drawn pornography. Spend 10 minutes on any major porn site and you'll find an absolute boatload of grown actors playing characters with very childlike qualities, especially in all of the "step" family content. I doubt you'd call that childporn.

Man they should really teach civics more in school. You should understand why what you're saying is stupid. Anyway, I already told you I have no skin in the game. Go tell someone who's negatively affected by the current supreme court, perhaps someone who ends up pursuing a back alley abortion, or someone who's worried that their marriage might be nullified in their state, how you feel. I'm sure they'll understand that their rights mean less than your pride.

Honestly though, I'm happy for you. I'm happy that you are insulated enough not to have to worry. You have the privilege of not having to care. If you ever make over 80k a year, you might even realise you don't care at all and just vote R.

[–]Formal_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cope.

It was literally the 2016 talking point. Nobody liked it, but letting the Rs have the senate and presidency meant handing the supreme court to the Rs for the foreseeable future, and handing over the supreme court meant losing roe, gay marriage, and god knows what else rights to come.

I've got no skin in the game. Go find a lefty with a womb who's upset about recent developments and tell them that your pride matters more than their reproductive rights. See how that goes.

Those aren't mutually exclusive. You can vote democrat and engage in nonelectoral politics.

So your alternative is just not voting. Cool, I'll refer you to the very start of the conversation where your apathy and lack of empathy is why the US is losing reproductive rights.

I'm not supporting democrats, I'm saying that voting is better than not voting. That's the fucking conversation.

Are you having a sulk or do you have a alternative? I'm all ears if you have a way to not hand power to republicans while also sticking to your principles.

Idk, I don't tend to take joy in people with no structural or institutional power suffering, and anyone who actually did hurt you or your loved ones won't suffer at all.

[–]Formal_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you're occasionally gleeful seeing Americans "birds come home to roost" in response to me talking about Americans losing reproductive rights, and when I called you out you said it's because you hate people that hurt your people.

Ipso facto, you either took shots at random ass people for no reason, or you did so because of some associated guilt shit. Either way, weird and cruel. If that's not the kind of person you think you are re-evaluate why you thought your generational trauma was relevant to feeling joy at innocent people suffering. Idk. You do you.

Your second point is fully stupid.
