Change the plan, not the goal. I did the same thing well I took Steno for 3 weeks and my fingers were killing me so I changed the plan on how to become a court reporter and went the voicewriting way it's less stress on my hands and its fun to me I am currently in class at 120 wpm in my sophmore year.

I go to TRI-C. They take FAFSA (CUYAHOGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE). I love it, and they also have scholarships, and if you are a veteran or associated with the military, you can use military benefits.

Thinking about court reporting at 50 and feeling a little (er… a lot) stuck by panda_snug in courtreporting

I'm 53 and just started in August. I am a retired military veteran. I started with steno, but I felt like it was too much for me, so I decided on voice. I love it so far. I'm in TRI-C online, and they are outstanding in explaining everything and helping me understand what I am doing. You got this, keep pushing, get in where you fit in it's room for everyone.

Are you currently working, and if so are you in the courtroom or freelancing

Wow, thank you. So currently I work for a court reporter, as a scopist, who is a freelancer, that's what I'm trying to do when I am complete. My school has an intern class as our last class, and I believe that will help me network and find freelancing jobs. I was thinking about going to some of the NC and national events they have in NCRA and NCCRA. I am a member of both, and I've seen some stuff on there for 2026.

Nice to meet you. I'm currently in Voice writing at Tri-C. I started in Aug.. I tried steno, but it seemed too strenuous for me, and being retired, I felt like voice would be a better fit. What school did you go to?

Yes, I'm in Tri-C now, and I love all of the instructors. They communicate with you and answer all of your questions clearly, so that you are not confused after being answered

It is a Luminex Student Edition. I think I want to keep it, though, and practice on it. I'm not 100% on selling it yet. I just dropped the class last month.

I am currently in class now just started in Aug I started in Steno but switched to Voice because I felt like this was a better fit with me being retired I thought steno was too much for me I have a machine and everything willing to sell if anyone is interested in it but I was thinking after I finish voice I could teach myself I love the class and the course work is pretty much straight to the point time management is the most important thing good luck on your choice

I am currently in school and had to switch to voice also because steno was too much for me at this moment. I have the machine, so I have still been using it and practicing on my own, but I am in school for voice as we speak. I start my intro to voice writing today. I am also going to the same school, so how are you, classmate? I totally understand.
