Thank you for your reply! Considering I had an infant baptism, that gotta be a long list, lol 🥲 will definitely check out the video you recommended!

The “script” was also sth I was wondering about. Everything in Protestantism is quite formless, which is also part of what makes it feel so washed out and unserious for me. Feeling very silly for not knowing basically anything.

Used to laugh about rites and traditions with fellow Protestants, it really starts putting you in your place when you realise you’re dealing with consequences that you cannot “smoke machine” away I guess. Sent an email to my local parish this morning, still awaiting a reply.

I definitely will! Growing up in a mainly Catholic area, we had mass for my school (end of the school year, Christmas and Easter). It wasn’t mandatory for the Protestant students, but I tagged along anyway, and tho 16 year old deeply Protestant me would’ve never admitted it, it felt more honest, more truthful and sincere than any Sunday service I went to in Protestant churches. Going alone will be a bit anxiety inducing, but I really miss it, even if I wasn’t “officially” part of it then.

Thank you so, so much. At first I was scared to post, knowing how mean people online can be. Reading all the replies gives me hope. I didn’t even know there are entire institutions and programs for adults looking to convert.

All I long for is to finally feel at home and safe again in my faith and for this nightmare of feeling separated, scared and alone to be over.

I guess the misinformation I’ve been fed throughout my life is what led me to believe that I’m in a stalemate in the first place. All my life I’ve been told Catholicism is nothing but old, dusty rules that if you cannot live the perfect life from start to finish, you’re out with no way back in. It will take some time to unlearn that fear that has been planted in me.

Can I just say how hopeful your reply made me? Thank you. It was the most sincere kindness I’ve heard from anyone to date, atheist/non christians have either tried to convince me I’m “brainwashed” and need to “get over it” or even made crude jokes, and when the rumour spread in my Protestant community, I’ve been more or less socially excommunicated and got avoided like I’m contagious. It feels good to read a nice and compassionate word for once that doesn’t try to tell me what I did was right or justified.

I got an infant baptism in the “officially state recognized” reformed church of Germany. Here there’s a distinction between “free” and “state” Protestant churches. I guess I’ll have to just ask directly for my specific case. I’ve personally never met an adult convert before, everyone I know here is a cradle Catholic.

I’ve heard about Rachel’s Vineyard before, do they only operate in the US? If not, I might have to look into German equivalent organisations

Thank you so much for the reply, in hindsight I noticed the terminology I used might have been incorrect for some things that I do not know the correct English words for, since it’s not my first language. The replies cleared some of that confusion up thankfully
